Tomb Brokejaw here for Wolf News Sports. The Northern Wastes League has started its 23rd season. There is still controversy surrounding the league after many of owners were indited for corruption charges, with their trials still pending part-owner xyon has taken the reigns of organization for now. Many franchises within the NWL have left for now with no word on when they might return, nevertheless this season is looking good with 10 teams in premier and 2 divisions of 8 teams in the veteran level of competition. With everything still up in the air its anyone's guess as to who will will each division, best of luck to all coaches!

The Black_Plague kicked of the Premiere season against Creatures with Attitude. Coach Jasfmpgh ordered a full scale eradication of the rats. The Plague got off to a quick start after a pitch invasion with Tuon Tavore scoring a quick TD for the 1-0 lead. Things looked good for the plague as a perfect defense gave them a chance at the ball but they were never able to get away with it. With a chance to jump out to a big 2-0 lead Gutter runner Xah Tsorath dodged away from a pack of Creatures and proceeded to fumble the ball away. The Creatures took advantage scoring on turn 8 to tie the game up at 1. The second half saw Coach Jasfmpgh's plan go into effect with the creatures filling the boxes with only 5 rats left on the field the Creatures slow methodical march down the field resulted in a score for the 2-1 lead with only turn 8 left for the Plague. Coach Cyric ordered the quick snap hoping the refs wouldn't notice and aided by the kick off going out of bounds was able to easily push Cyan Bloodbane into range for the One Turn Score without even needing the dreaded Go For it. Was a fun game with a couple casualties for each team and a lot of Ko's. The Plague are looking forward to their second round match up with another team from beyond the grave.

Wolf News Report.
Mason's Power Rankings - Eastern Conference

#1 - Waste Not, Want Rot.
Coach Johnny_Ryce has put together an impressively balanced team for this season. Splinter King leads the bash side of the team, which should be strong enough to push back most other teams in the league, while the foul appearance of most of the team will hamper any passing attacks. Harvey Hellbender will lead the offensive side, though keep an eye on new power running back Coal Soul.
Season Prediction 5-2-0

#2 - Death from Above!!

Coach Craftnburn trains his team harder than any other team in the league(6RRs) and this will be a season it pays off. This team has the strongest take away game in the east, which will make them very hard to score or stall on. The health of two key players will be key to how the season plays out, Stat freak Black Spider and Veteran lineman Screaming Eagle. If they can stay in the games this team will win.
Season Prediction 4-2-1

#3 - Elven Caravan
Coach Xyon's band of Elves will be the highest scoring team in the east. Led by stand-out catcher Lurr the Swordelf, it will be tough to keep them from the endzone. Baefor the Mechanic also gives the team some bite, though not enough to keep the CAS even. Expect them to lose a few games from taking too many injuries.
Season Prediction 4-0-3

#4 - St Louis Brews
Coach prophane has molded his squad of Dwarves into the strongest bash team in the east. Lead by O'Fallon Pumpkin, the team has guard and mighty blow at every turn, expect to see the enemy CAS area overflowing most games. One weakness, common to most dwarf teams, is the fact that the Brews are slow. Another problem is with so much money tied up in player salary they won't have much to save for bribes. Lemp St Louis Bottled Beer will only be able to help for a single half most games.
Season Prediction 3-1-3

#5 - Bigger in Texas
Coach ex-convict is bringing a battered and limping human team to the east this season. Lucky for him human teams are known for their ability to spring back quickly. ex-convict was also clever enough to take large insurance policies out on his players, which should insure plenty of star and wizard contractors will be helping his team along.
Season Prediction 2-2-3

#6 - Northern Wastes Legends

A brand new Undead team, coached by Veteran propuppetmaster. Undead are know to be strong starters and I've seen the team practicing with a certain famous vampire, who may show up for a game or two. I give them the edge over the other rookie team. Good luck to team QB Braited, who will need luck to survive the season.
Season Prediction 1-3-3

#7 - Mutant Resistance

A new chaos dwarf team, coached by hotshot newcomer Tzij. Coach Tzij is in for a long season. While his team will be able to hang in the bash game, they will struggle keeping the ball safe and moving it down field. If one of the bulls quickly develops into a runner, then all bets are off, but until then they will need to rely heavily on the inducements that will be available.
Season Prediction 1-2-4

#8 - Underhill Treehuggers
Not much can be said for this team, coached by one of the more devious minded coaches Big-Al. Big-Al tends to pay his players very little, and cuts corners on practice time and equipment. While the team itself isn't much beyond the limber and dangerous Treeman Toejam Strongroot. With all the money Big-Al saves expect to see many of the big name stars taking the field on his side, as well as a steady stream of wizards. Coach Big-Al is even willing to hire famous chefs and allow the smells of the delicious food they prepare to distract the other team. In the end though, when the base of your team is a bunch of short fat guys all the dirty tricks in the world won't keep you in more than a few games.
Season Prediction 1-1-5

Tomb Brokejaw here with another update.

The Premier division has blazed ahead of schedule and finished all round 1 games before the deadline, and has even now begun to play round 2 games.

Summary of the scores as follows:
Northern Waste Hydras lose 2-0 vs the Legion of Z-Men, Feral Teabaggers beat the Savage Slings 1-0, Black Plague ties Creatures With Attitude 2-2, NWL Blacks lose 2-1 against Last of the Renshai, and Dead Zeppelin beats the Mirkwood Lumberjacks 2-0.

Representatives from the winning teams were all too busy tearing the limbs off their opposing team's fans to comment, while all members of the losing teams were seen fleeing the field to escape unruly fans. The players on the teams who tied were still seen beating eachother up for hours after the game to see who was really better.

All teams seem in top form to face off in the second round, and the #1 spot is in the air as far as this reporter is concerned.

Premier, round 2: Legion of Z-Men vs Feral Teabaggers

A great close game. This match started off the same way the Legion's previous one did - with their senior wight being removed from the pitch with a thrown rock. He did regenerate, though, meaning that, unlike last time, he would be back later. And this time, one of the opponents went down as well, though only stunned. The Z-Men pushed forwards and scored a reasonably quick touchdown, leaving the Teabaggers four turns to try and even it up, but lost their senior Ghoul for the rest of the game in the process. The single Norse KO did not wake up, though, which would prove a fateful omen. More rocks rained down on the pitch, stunning another northman, but Sigmar1 took it in stride, grinding away at the sacrificial zombies on the line and getting men in position for a TD attempt. A failed handoff allowed the corpses to recover the ball, but not secure it. A 1d blitz let the Teabaggers regain control, running a man into the end zone and passing to him for the equalizer.

Lucky regen rolls and unlucky KO rolls, though, meant that the Norse would start the second half down a man. They broke armour three times in the opening moments of the half, but only stunned the opponents, while the response took one of the Ulfwereners out of the game for good. Their Snow Troll failing his Wild Animal roll on a blitz meant that they were unable to capitalize on the multiple downed corpses, and they settled back, caging while trying to get someone into scoring position for a pass. The ref was either particularly alert or a dog lover, ejecting a lineman from either side for fouls on werewolves (the Legion's +ST Caylus and star player Wilhelm Chaney). Sigmar1 finally made his move, clearing the way for a run to the corner with his ball carrier, but he had to use a reroll doing so, and when his Snow Troll's clearance block came up double skulls he was unable to get the third man in place to guard. Four GFIs from the Legion used up their reroll for the turn, but resulted in a successful blitz. The Teabaggers tried to return the favour with their hired wolf, but a failed dodge and failed loner roll left the Z-Men with a window of opportunity. They blocked and blitzed the relevant Norse out of the way, snagged the ball and handed it off, while making GFIs whenever needed - all without using their team's precious last reroll. This left their wight seven spaces from the end zone on turn 8, and while the one necessary GFI initially rolled a 1, the hoarded reroll converted that into a 6 for the win.

This game really could have gone either way, and I commend Sigmar1 for his play and courtesy. Good luck in the rest of the season!

Premier, Round 2: Black.__Plague vs Dead Zepplin NWL

Game started of with the Plague Kicking off to the the Undead of Dead Zepplin. The Dead proceded to march down the field sending mulitple members of the Plague to the KO box but not doing any serious harm. With 3 gutter runners and a couple stormvermin still roaming the pitch The dead marched into the end zone on turn 4 rather than tempting fate and stalling. The Plague Scored pretty quick after failing a quick pass with an ag 5 gutter runner left the ball open a ghoul snaked the gfi to try and pick it up. The failed go for it's became a theme for both teams with most of the rerolls going the way of the failed gfi and both teams snaking one set. The Plague by half time all the plagues ko's had pretty much come back and the teams were even on the pitch the plague scored 2 times in the second half to take a 3-1 lead. The dead climbed back to 3-2 with 3 turns left but the plague were able to keep the ball away at the end and secure the 3-2 victory. The Undead just couldn't knock enough of the rats off the pitch to take control. They did end the career of one rookie Linerat and will cause Star Gutter runner Xah Tsaroth to miss the next match. Thanks for the Game Licker.

Premier, Round 3 Black__Plague vs Savage Slings

This round started with the Slings receiving the ball and the plague setting up to try and defend. The Slings were down to 11 players and hired the Chainsaw Wielding Star Play Helmutt to try and offset the numbers. The game started with the Slings grabbing the ball and caging it up and marching down the field. The Plague went to work on those outside the cage and proceeded to KO the Niggled blitzer then badly hurt the av 6 catcher to get. Helmutt was the next to go down to the rats as he was Crunched by Cy An giving him 2 casualties caused in the first 3 turns of the game. Before you knew what was happening the Slings ran into the endzone with a decided lack of players on the pitch. It wasn't one sided as the Slings were dishing out some punishment of thier own. The plague got the ball and marched down and scored to end the half 1-1. The second half started with the plague having 10 players and the slings at 7. With plans of holding the ball and scoring on turn 8 nuffle intervened and the rats started flying off the field with the team crumbling around him Cyan Bloodbane Scooted into the endzone to give the Plague a 2-1 lead with half of the second half still to go. The plague set up 9 on defense while the Slings were still at 7. A rock stunned St 4 Blitzer Flashy Francois, not to be outdone the Sling fans hit a linerat koing him and bringing the numbers to 8-7. After clearing the Los with two stuns and a SI'ed linerat we were all even up on numbers and the humans looked set to even it up on the score board as well. Lacking the numbers to fully protect the ball caught up to the slings as Star Catcher Languishing Larry found himself in range of a blitz by Plague Gutter Runner Tuon Tavore. Not content to just strip the ball Tavore Knocked Larry from the game with the ball going out of bounds to an aspiring Skaven thrower who hurled it most of the way back to the Slings bench where Cyan Bloodbane grabbed it with the intentions of making it 3-1. The humans grabbed the ball back on turn 7, but Blitzer Spicy Steven Pinched a Nerve trying to dodge away from a couple of Linerats leaving the humans with no one close enough to tie the game on turn 8. The Plague went for the ball with Tavore dislodging it and Cyan Bloodbane this time in range of the End Zone scoring to make it 3-1. With the Slings suffering 6 casualties all together including the SI on the dodge and the Plague suffering 2 bh's and 2 Si's of their own this game was a bloody affair and Nuffle was pleased. Was a fun game Looked real bad for the Slings early but then they came back to make it interesting. Nicely Played SavageJ good luck the rest of the way.

Scout's report, Eastern round 3: Northern Wastes Legends vs Bigger in Texas

Bigger in Texas is having a significantly more successful sophomore year than their first, with a win already under their belt instead of their original string of draws. Northern Wastes Legends is still working through their initial woes, having lost a wight in their first game. They've saved enough to buy a second ghoul, but were still significant underdogs for this game. The inducements have allowed them to borrow the services of star players Setekh and Sinnedbad, though.

The match started off with the humans receiving. ex-convict played a cautious game to start, breaking contact with the line zombies after blocks wherever possible. propuppetmaster was having none of this, moving his corpses back up, although he curiously left Sinnedbad back as a safety instead of pressing forward with the annoying sack of bones. ex-convict took advantage of most of the undead having gone to the wings to blitz a hole in the center for a couple of his men to run through, but a -2d block on a mummy took one of his blitzers out of the game for good. The humans began elfballing, dodging around to position themselves while still getting some good hits in. They finally managed to break their ballcarrier out into the open, and a failed GFI from Setekh left him clear. The undead were unable to score at the end of the half, but their mummies made the most of the time, KOing one human and killing their journeyman, recruiting him over to their side. The sight brought a tear to my eye. There is little in this game more beautiful than a journeyman turning into 2 SPP, and when his body is then put to good use... well, it's a wonderful thing.

With failed KO rolls, the corpses had an 11-7 man advantage on the field for the start of the second half. That quickly became 10-7 when a zombie was ejected for an attempted foul on the Texan's ogre, but the undead's ghouls were still able to get a quick score on their third turn, leaving them five to try to wrest the ball from the outnumbered humans and win the game. propuppetmaster did choose to sit one of his ghouls when doing so, though, which this reporter found questionable - I think the extra mobility is worth the chance of injury when chasing down the more mobile humans. This point of view was justified when, after a failed dodge on ex-convict's turn 6, propuppetmaster's one ghoul on the board was the one to blitz the human's ballcarrier and retrieve the ball. Facing a choice to GFI twice and score immediately, he chose instead to wait, and this almost backfired when a -2d block with Strip Ball dumped the ball back onto the field. The bounce was favourable, though, and propuppetmaster was able to blitz the defenders out of the way and run the ball in for a final score. A Blitz on the final kickoff allowed mummy Bangolik his third casualty of the night, giving him an immediate skill, and that is how the game would end.

Both teams picked up some useful skills in postgame. The humans added a second (!) +AG blitzer to their mix, while the undead grabbed DP for a zombie, Block for a ghoul, and doubles to allow Block on Bangolik. Look for both of these teams to be even more dangerous in the future.

Northern Wastes Legends pick up their first points in a 2-1 defeat of Bigger in Texas!

Premiere Round 4
Black Plague 1 Feral Teabaggers 1

The game started with the Plague receiving the ball and the Teabaggers setting up for defense with Helmut on the field for support. The Plague were pretty ineffective on turn one and were a general mess up til about turn 3 when Ghostmaker was gang fouled by Ruud Icegrip. The Ref looked the other way do to a large sum of money that switched hands before the match but the foul was ineffective. Ghostmaker jumped up and knocked out Helmut. The rest of the Plague followed suit and steadily Koed the Teabaggers until they had a commanding field position and went in to score on turn 7. A few shady looking women were seen slipping out of the refs Hut last night and only that could explain why Helmut wasn't Gutter runner Tuon Tavore swooped in and picked up the ball with a screen of rats between him and the teabagger players and looking at an easy jog into the endzone for a 2-0 lead. Something in the Quad Skulls must have switched on the Teabaggers lights because they exploded badly hurting one linerat and dodging through the screen of rats to SI Tavore. A few turns later there were 2 more Seriously injured rats and a few in the KO box and the Teabaggers were well on their way to clearing the pitch and tying the score. The Teabaggers scored on turn 8 of the second half to tie the game at 1 with only 2 rats left on the pitch with 3 seriously injured 1 badly hurt and 6 in the KO box. One theme of the game came true for both teams the KO rolls weren't good as the Teabaggers struggled to get back onto the pitch even with the help of some Bloodwieser babes. Helmut never did return. The Plague with speedy gutter runner Cyan Ariakus sitting on the bench waiting to come in looked to have a decent shot at a 1 turn score to tie the game but managed to have only Ghostmaker pass his KO roll. Chances are he was still woozy but the team doctors were weary of getting to close to the crazed beast. With only 4 rats to field a 1 turn score was only going to happen with a quick snap and a bad kick niether of which happened so Coach Cyric and the Plague settled for the 1-1 tie. Nicely done weathering the terrible first half and then taking control in the second half Sigmar was a fun game.

Rumblings are coming out of the Western Confrence as Slaughter House [9] is decimating the opposition and getting primed to take the confrence title. The Nine just came off a 12 CAS FOR match and looking forward to the showdown in the confrence against the Bayou Boys. That match will probally determine the winner of the confrence.

The Nine have posted a +25 CAS diffrential through 3 matches and are looking to achieve a +50 by the end of the season. A lot of broken bones and noggins in the western confrence.

Premier Round 5:
Mirkwood Lumberjacks 2, Legion of Z-Men 0

The Lumberjacks' run of good luck on everything except deaths continued with another Wizard-induced win. The ST1 catcher Torgo W was killed along with a loner, but sadly the Z-Men were unable to kill the strangely robust -AG lineman Earl Rili.

Unfortunately for the Z-Men, their pigskin allergies really acted up in the first half. The initial pickup was surehand fumbled, for which the silly Ghoul was punished with a lightning bolt to the head. Soon followed a Zombie kickoff catch, after which the Z-Men foolishly tried to hand the ball to a useful player. Fumble again.

No handling problems for the Jacks, who caught bouncing balls on consecutive turns in the first half to make it 2-0. In the second half after a perfect defense result, the Jacks cowered pathetically in their own half of the field, running back and forth trying to find a dark corner to hide in.

If just for one day the oft-shorthanded Lumberjacks lead Premier, but reality and sweet death are sure to set in soon.

Premier, round 6: Legion of Z-Men vs Creatures with Attitude

The Necromantic mirror match was not something either coach was particularly pleased with, but it did make a change from tricksy elvses. Jasfmpgh's Creatures With Attitude started off receiving, with the ball bouncing straight to one of his wights. My own Legion of Z-Men would draw first blood with a BH on a zombie, but that just started a trend, with a total of four zombies being badly hurt on the opening drive, and only one successful regen roll. Jas continued to drive forward slowly, finally making a break for it near the end of the first half. Failing to notice a nearby tackler meant that the Legion's blitz attempt failed, and the Creatures would end the half up 1-0. The Z-Men did seem able to count on the support of the crowd, though - in addition to the FAME advantage, they returned a surfed ghoul unscathed.

The crowd continued its support in the second half - while they threw rocks at both teams, they only stunned the Legion's +ST wolf, while the Creatures' tackling wight was KO'd. The Z-Men lost another zombie to the ref, but the blitz attempt from the Creatures failed to take down the ball carrier, and the Legion's +MA ghoul was able to break free and run in to even the score. The Creatures continued to grind away, sending their star wolf BA Duke towards the end zone, daring the Legion to hit him, since Side Step would guarantee the TD if he wasn't taken down. The Z-Men accepted the challenge, knocking him down and stunning him, and managed to pick up the ball. The Creatures ran their own high-risk play back, though, taking the Legion's ball-carrying ghoul down with an MNG, and then getting the double dodge and pickup to retrieve the ball with two turns left in the game. A quick snap allowed the Z-Men to get a fast start towards the Creatures' end zone, though, and Jasfmpgh's decision to not stand up his remaining LOS zombies in order to preserve them meant that the Z-Men actually had zombies available to assist their position players. Two of the corpses were able to render assistance to their remaining werewolf, who blitzed a blocker away and down and then ran into the end zone. Their ghoul was then able to run in and pass to him, evening the score at two apiece, where it would end.

A fun game in the end, with (by my count) seven badly hurts on zombies at different points of the game. Good luck to Jasfmpgh in the rest of the season!

This is Rock Brawnson filling in for Tomb Brokejaw, it brings me great sadness to announce that Tomb Brokejaw was found locked in his dressing room with a vial of holy water mixed into his normal pre-show drink, he did not survive. The sports update for premier will be delayed.
