Final week wrap!

So with just round 7 (for most of us) to play, it's time to take stock of the contenders and the pretenders.

May be a price to Pay Regionals
Regional Contenders: Dustbunny (locked), Charger, lolvenom (wtf...)
Needing a refuel: polemarch

Dustbunny has had a really solid season of play, and could walk away without dropping a point. MBBL elf-specialist Charger needs a draw or better to tie up second place. If he loses though, we could have the Ogres coming in and taking out second place, which would be a real coup. The rocket vamps obviously needed to hit rock-bottom before refueling. Once a skilled Vamp goes down it really puts pressure on a team like this. Next season sir!

Martha the Stout Regionals
Regional Contenders: Tribal, Chavo
Needing another trial!: mushoomy

Chavo's abomination is now fully operational, whilst tribal is enjoying the benefits of a team that doesn't have to be begged to do as it's told. Poor mushoomy copped an absolute hiding round 1 and are still on the recovery, but are getting back to strength now.

Blackwater Sting Conf
Promotion hopefuls: DrDiscoStu, Luo, Redgum
Gone Missing: Asha'maniac

DrDiscoStu has decided that conference really is the heart and soul of the SWL and threw his last two games to give Redgum a chance to catch him on points and beat him on the head-to-head tiebreak. Luo has had an absolute baller of a season, and needs a draw or better to take out the conference against the Freezy Trees. Asha'maniac picked up some point late in the season but it wasn't enough for these pre-season hopefuls.

Harlequins of Despair Conf
Promotion hopefuls: Tyra-Nid (locked), Bobs, heretek
Gone Missing: Edamame Diet

Tyra had this conference on lockdown from the outset, and even a round 7 capitulation will see him take home the silverware. Bobs would be odds on favourite to take the second slot, but if heretek can eke out a win, there could be an upset promotion... A rough season for Pjj as the bean-munchers just couldn't get it together and a flurry of injuries slowing the team's progress. A rough finish given he has placed 3rd three seasons running.

Butchrangers Conf
Promotion hopefuls: Dazed, Daudy, Sem
Gone Missing: JoeKano

Dazed looks set for a second division win in as many seasons after the Fun Police forgot how to block (giving them the H2H advantage). Each of the three contenders now have a single 'must-win' game remaining with only a point between them! Daudy will likely give us an in-depth analysis soon, so I'll keep this one short. JK wasn't able to get up and running although managed to take the points of Dazedmw which he must be very happy with. Despite losing a skilled ghoul late in the season, his squad still looks very strong & will be there or abouts next season.

SWL Season Prem
Title Contenders: Barre, Grumpsh, ...........Faulcon (really guys?)
Pretenders: Beefy

Well, we said it pre-season. If nobody stops the centaurs, they will bull their way to another title. LHC will need a new clubhouse just to store all the silverware soon, and with a final round match-up vs jevouse's braised and beaten squad will rate his chances. It's his title to lose at this point. Grumpsh slipped through the cracks and is looking as close to anyone to being the first Necromantic team to take out a title, but needs 2 wins, and for Barre to drop the ball (hehe). Faulcon, is up there yet again. Beefy hasn't had the season we expected, and will have to console himself with beating up on the conferences next season. Given his squad's relative strength I think he missed one of his best chances here.

The Ogres were locked in for a win against the Khemri right up until the point where they lost.

Hopefully they do enough to progress as another season in the reggies at high TV will all but destroy them.

Good write up, though I'm wondering why you used team names for some guys and coach names for others when talking about those gone missing?

Anyway, since you requested, I'll put in some thoughts about the Butchrangers Conf. Razz

With one game to go and the top 3 places split by a single point, the Conference title appears all to play for. However, despite trailing the leaders by a point for the last round or two, PSA actually have quite a mountain to climb to overtake both other teams - one far larger than the 1 point margin suggests. Both the Fun Police and Spelling Orcs play opponents who are unquestionably on a rebuild, while PSA face off against the far more built and long time adversaries, the Horrors. To win PSA requires both other teams to drop points (lose or draw) and to win themselves. Alternatively, simply a PSA draw would win it for them if both others lose outright. None of this is all that easy either, as the Horrors last season finally broke their duck against PSA with a fairly convincing 2-1 win. The odds of both leading teams dramatically falling down at the final hurdle given how they've been performing is low, so I fully expect one of the two to clinch the title.

Despite the points margin held by the top 3 in the conference compared to the bottom 5, this conference has still largely held up to preseason predictions as a conference of death with some close results. A number of results could have easily gone other ways (better or worse) and that's just from PSA's perspective, whilst the biggest talking point will likely be the game changing blocking skills of the Fun Police in junk time against the Spelling Orcs.

The Premier promotion picture is a bit murkier though from the conference. Despite some belief represented by discussion in IRC, PSA actually have a good chance to catapult themselves into Prem under the new rules. Unless both the Spelling Orcs and Fun Police outright win their final rounds, PSA could very much steal a #2 slot from one of the two form teams of the season and get pushed up.

I'm sad to say that I beat the Ogres senseless and they now are unlikely to progress Sad

However I will be there to cheer them on next season!

Yes they packed quite a punch. I lost count of how many times I had players leave the field. It wouldn't surprise me if it topped 20.

BUT... I managed to sneak throuh the whole season without suffering a death or a permanent injury \o/

Congrats on the title Luo!
Looks like our intriguing rivalry will have to go on hold for at least a season.

So, second place comes down to whether Redgum's Rodents can get the win against the Griffon Gate Sentinels.
See the exciting conclusion to the Blackwater Sting Conference tonight at 8:30!

And left my best player on the line of scrimmage when I was recieving the ball, thus allowing an easy turn 0 blitz - death apoth fail. And thus ensuring I am in conference for a while to come.

(Probably. I think I am supporting redgum on this one)

Ouch. I'd rather lose him than one of the +AG harem though.

Nah. I've got 3 I don't need 3... Plus blitzers are easy to skill. Black orcs take forever.

What are you after Redgum? The third party stuff is much nicer than the original GW stuff. Here's a good starting point: www.comixininos.com

Most of this stuff is cheaper at the original manufacturer's site, but it's a really good range catalog.

Thanks. GW brand doesn't worry me. My son't getting about old enough for me to ruin his social life forever, so I was hoping to get a board and teams. I was nostalgic for the old three-part styrofoam board but I knew that was unlikely.
