What happens if you're not a good coach?

If you are not a good coach you generally lose.

To what end does it matter if an average coach gains a leg up by playing at a slower pace than on Fumbbl? It would drive you crazy not being able to tell who is and isn't a good coach?

Or maybe sometimes playing slower you have the time to analyze what is the right decision, internalyze it, and then better recognize the right decision when you're playing faster Smile

It doesn't drive me crazy because I would never play by-email, my academic point is that turns with a proper timer help to differentiate the best coach.

Because it makes the game more competitive.

Oh right, I thought the timer was there so the game didn't go on for too long.

If I'm playing someone whose obviously far better than me, can I time them out?

Classic Matt. Smile

Actually, in the ideal world (rather than the practical one), if you're being 'competitive' (and I am), what you want is to beat the very best version of your opponent available. That doesn't mean gleefully gaining a non Blood Bowl advantage by cutting down on thinking time if he so happens to need some, it means letting him make the optimal decisions according to his viewpoint and then overcoming them by being better. In actuality, thinking time is a bit of a misnomer; much as we all love thinking through a turn, so much of BB is pattern recognition and playing not on auto pilot, but subliminally. The result of an experienced, good coach's turn would likely be very similar given a minute or an hour. The only coach a strict time limit screws is the good, inexperienced coach that does not have the bank of patterns on which to draw. Play a thousand games more, be 'better'!

PBeM doesn't appeal to me, but if it works for others, good.

@ Goo: ironically, sometimes I feel I was better when I didn't have those automatisms. For some aspects of the game at least. Go figure. Very Happy

I would guess you were just missing your mistakes and thus feeling better about your playing?

On topic I think pbem is a great way to play bb. It's the only progression format that I have played consistently for many years.

pbem is also a competitive environment - and that is a challenge! Smile

Haha. I've decided to give it a go. Not a big fan of the roster changes though. Might stick to Tier 3 teams Very Happy
