I actually looked at what Minny did 2nd half with the situation the same and decided I was definitely gonna go for the score as best I could but not press it like I do most the time with lamentable results. Was able to give the Orcs the slip and didn't crap the bed on a GFI, this time.

Wizards are cool!

Stimme would have to speak for himself, but I'm pretty sure he also was planning on just scoring quickly and holding on for a 2-1.

Deep kick, and stone wall defense kept him from even trying to get anyone down field early. After that, there was simply no safe way for him to set up a down field screen for a catcher.

I thought he played it really well, and assumed he was going to go for the back field stall and then just punt on turn 7 (6 if I could force it). But he had to chew through the rerolls here and there as a few 1s popped up, and I was able to keep the pressure on while keeping his players down or in difficult dodge situations.

Eventually he failed a dodge to set his cage (though I was going to bust it with ST5 break tackle anyway...) and the ball came out.

But you saw right? Ball came out and he caught it anyway. That forced me to swarm him, and he wasn't totally long odds to get the ball to his AG5 guy and try a break away, or even a break away punt.

Fortunately for me, the hand off failed and this time my AG4 hobber caught the bounce. I still had to score on turn 7 giving him the one turn try, and with a 9357 catcher it wasn't too hard for him to set up (I fired my 3rd standfirm/ss guy with a niggle...), quick snap made it even easier, but he caught another 1 (well a skull) and that was that.

The correct play when you're up 1-0 at the half as elfs is nominally to just make it 2-0 without trying to be too cute and hope you can survive the next 6-7 turns because at worst you have a draw against bash teams. The Bash team on the other hand cannot really go balls out trying to pressure the ball to force the score/break away because that's a sure fire way to let them stall it even more easily. Sadly you are forced to play for the 1-1 draw unless you have really removed most of the opponent.

It was actually a really fun game from the strategy/tactics point of view, and I think both of us played 'correctly', just for the breaks he got in the 1st half, I got them in the 2nd half.

Totally licker, that was a fun back and forth between you two. What I was getting at is Minny showed me that patience is a virtue and i didnt have to press a score immediately, just had to avoid getting bogged down in the backfield. I admit, Im kinda lazy and sometimes (most times) just wanna punch it in and get to the defense.

I didn't watch your guys game so I don't know how JR played it, but yeah, patience is a virtue, for both sides!

The bash hoping to steal the ball cannot overcommit the pressure, that makes it really really easy for the elf to find a way to flip the field and either stall it out, or get the 2nd score 'easily'.

You have to be patient around midfield and try to keep all the elfs bogged down protecting the ball, or just kind of rounded up so that if they want to reposition it's a lot of dice to do so.

It's much easier with numbers (which I didn't really have, you see Stimme used both his apos on KOs, I think that was the right call too, like me using mine on a KO as well). But the bash is basically conceding that they are playing for the 1-1.

Eventually you hope to either build up a big enough numbers advantage where you can both pressure the ball and keep elfs locked up, or that the elfs will lose their patience and go for a riskier pass/handoff/dodge/gfi sequence. The thing is that you have to be aware of the punt too. I was keeping my ag4 hobber 'back' as long as I thought I could, both because he has tackle to stop a break away, but also because if there was a punt I would have some chance at recovery and actually passing it up too.

I had to throw him in after my sack of the ball though when the elfs caught it (and it worked), but if the AG5 elf had made the catch and dodges he would have had a trivial punt that I could have done nothing about recovering. Well maybe my dirty player could have tried something, but he would have been the only one.

Remember the secret sauce, not always based on head to head. Includes how tough the schedule is and how much booze you have bought him.

going from #25 (wft!? Smile ) to #9 in a few weeks is ok.... the SF CAS machines has'nt paid off yet, so we can live with the soft playoff seedings atm.

But don't worry... blood will run wild in NFC West once Brasky gets the Angles up to speed and the Werehawks and 69'ers gets more DP's... The Sinners are of course in the race... but they'll need to run very fast with the av7 Twisted Evil

A lot of change has happened in the NFC West lately. Sinners still need to adopt to it.
