Hi guys. Scrolling the top-teams of dwarfs, I noticed that a lot of dwarfs' coachs arent using the troll-slayers, neither the 2 runners. That's quite often a 8 blockers / 2 blitzer / 1 runner roster.

If i compare TS to blockers, we have +1ma -1av (fair enough), dauntless / frenzy for +20K. I feel like the "plus" are dauntless strenghen your team versus big guys and others st4, frenzy add some pressure on the sides, but av8 will offer a target and frenzy has some downside for positionning (which is quite important as dwafs).

Im not experienced with dwarfs, but i like them. Can you guys give your opinion about that?

Frenzy can be hard to use effectively against some opponents - also they are the "weak link" in the dwarf team in that they are the most obvious player to target - alongside the runners.

Personally I do prefer to run with one slayer on the team for the strategic reasons you mention above - but then again I am not a "top" dwarf coach.

I'd always take max positionals with dwarves personally as they all offer something unique.

Lots of "top" dorf teams focus on staying rather low TV to avoid guard-spam ST 4 teams or claw/MB squads and dominate with the starting skills of the blockers and just a little guard.

The dorf teams that do OK in majors run everything but the roller, you need your positional players against big teams, and you need a decent bench because there's plenty out there can hurt dorfs.

I have been playing the 8 blockers / 2 blitzer / 1 runner roster (mostly in a table top league). I'm not a very experienced player, but I'll explain my reasoning behind the build.

This build, for me at least, revolves around making the most out of AV9, block, thick skull by reducing your AV8 footprint. Having only one AV8 player makes him pretty easy to protect, so most of your opponents blocks will be against your AV9 players.

Slayers are great but frenzy (being forced to follow up) and AV8 means they reduce the effectiveness of this strategy. Dropping one of the runners and two slayers also lets you start with 4 re-rolls, which really lets you abuse the hell out of one dice blocks, and boost your dwarfs mobility in a pinch with go for its. I can't stress how good it is to have a re-roll left turn 8 so you can throw a load of greedy two dice blocks before scoring. Having 4 re-rolls also helps alleviate the lack of starting dauntless on the team and can allow you to get away with less guard and take more mighty blow as first skills on your blockers. Loading up on mighty blow works with your AV9, block, thick skullgiving you even more of an attrition advantage.

I tend to only run 11 players, this team is really slow so you often end up aiming for the 1-0 win. As a result you often only see two kickoffs, meaning the only time you can bring on your 12th player is at the start of the second half. You would have to lose a player in the first half of the game for your 12th player to be useful which is unlikely. Extra Dwarfs are not cheap and giving your opponents inducements like babes undermines your attrition game. It also means when you do face claw chaos teams you tend to be at a lower TV so can load up on wandering apothecaries (fighting chaos with 1 apo, and 2 wondering apos an merc or two is ideal). So for table top leagues (no TV matchmaking) not giving your opponents inducements and getting inducements vs claw is pretty important for this build. In a matchmaking environment the low TV can let you avoid claw completely.

The build is probably one of the slowest viable teams you can play which makes it quite different/fun and means you really have to work on positioning.

Hope that helps. Smile
