In their last Fringe Game, the Cold Blooded Blood Drinkers faced of against the Aperiodic Determinists of Hofmeister.
http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=match&id=2552797

The sneaky determinists immidiatly determined that a Drinker Thrall was not really there (or it wasnt me), giving them a slight headstart with reducing the Cold bloods to 11 players.
The Determinists wons the toss and elected to Kick on the first half.
Pissed about not beeing able to kick a ball, the Drinkers Dirty player Chateuneff du pape kick the Head of the Determinists Chaos Warrior instead, sending him off pitch with a Niggling injury. Chateu le Pin was not to be slighted by that and immidiatly niggled a Beastmen. He would also score another Cas in the game.
Beeing up 2 players gave the Drinkers dominance on the field, and Vampire ballhandling, paired with some really sweet Chainpushing gave vicotry to the Coldbloods. That the determinists failed a Go For it for the touchdown helped too.

I'm late with this, but just a note on the match. League Thriller 23 got the opening kick, and despite numerous efforts by the Sylvans to knock the ball loose, some of which even succeeded, the Sylvans were never able to establish possession. After considerable attrition of the elf team (thankfully mostly KO's), the undead were able to score on a GFI on their final turn of the half. (It actually got a bit more complicated than that due to an apparent corruption of the game, but we got it handled.) The Sylvans could do nothing on their one turn possesion before halftime.

The KO box was emptied for the Sylvans with the opening kick of the second half, and the elf team took advantage to quickly score an equalizer. Catcher Andela Dorilia sprinted downfield with several lineelfs throwing up a credible screen. Thrower Gladius Winflow gathered the ball, carried it downfield a few paces, and then launched a long pass right on the money to Andela. The screen held up under the undead assault, and only a single member of League Thriller was able to get between Andela and the endzone. A quick blitz pushed him out of the way, and Andela strolled in. Coach Naboimp worried that it was too quick of a score, but there didn't seem an effective means of stalling.

Sure enough, the undead took their kickoff and marched steadily down the field. Elf attempts to slow the ball were generally ineffective. However, as the time ticked down, the undead made a break for it, leaving the ball vulnerable when a pass fell incomplete. The Sylvans failed to pick the ball up for themselves, and the undead recovered. A desperate last attempt saw the Sylvans knock the ball free once more, but the best they could do was to place tacklezones to make the pickup difficult. On their final turn, League Thriller 23 knocked the surrounding Sylvans down, and a player picked up the ball and strolled on in for the winning score as the buzzer sounded.

Overall, the WIL Fringe Shetland Division had proven a tough league for the young Sylvans. Still, the players had acquitted themselves well. None of the games had been a blowout (though the game against the Wacky Little Daffodils clearly was not in doubt halfway through the second half). More amazingly, the team had avoided serious injury. The team looks forward to continued participation in the WIL Fringe.

(Speaking of which, what happens now? Also, I noticed that the Rathlin Division isn't updating scores for their games played - they all still show 0.)

Good spot Naboimp, i've fixed it now.

I aim to send a group PM round tomorrow about the knock out cup that will start in a couple of weeks. Will need to get the calender out to see how it matches with the main WIL schedule.

With 3 of the leagues complete already and the last 1/2 way through I thought I'd annouce the next Fringe event.

On the 16th of March we will launch the 1st Fringe cup, it will be a knock out tournament at present we have 16 coaches in the Fringe so they will all take part in the cup, but new coaches are more than welcome. Priotity will be given to those not already in the main White Isle League.

All the teams that lose in round 1 of the Cup will be entered into the Fringe Plate, probably an 8 team knock out tournament but there may be some extra coaches by that stage. This means everyone should get 2-4 games and we can finish around the same time as the premier is coming to an end in the main league.

The team that wins the cup will get bragging rights and can claim to be the best fringe team. I'll make sure to do s trophy to put in the team bio as well.

To those already in the Fringe full details were in the group PM, this is just a bit of advertsing for any new people who might be interested really.

Sounds good - I'll forward to it.

I noticed the Rathlin division has only one more day to complete its second round. Come on, Tunnelfighters and Bloodsucklers! Surely you don't want to be the first teams to miss a deadline.

Well i threatened to send Russo round to the Raithlin coaches if they were slow. So not only did they get the late game played but they also finished the league off over the weekend.

This means we are well ahead of schedule for the cup.
I have edited the group page, if you have 10 next to your team then you are automatically in the cup, those with 10 I will randomly determine who is in from the spaces left (though i will probably fix it so godreg is in it as he missed out on the league).

If you want to change teams Pm me with a list now! We are pretty balanced at the moment so it shouldn't be too hard to get something you like.

I am thinking of kicking the Cup off a couple of days earlier than the 16th, as getting the 1st round done on schedule is very important so we can start the plate on the 26th.

I'll leave time for any new coaches to get their submissions in if they want to take part in the cup.

I've also made some trouphies for the league winners. Bloodelf, Frankenstein, Mightypeon and shadow can all add them to their team bios.

Blimey Naboimp, that's impressive.

You should drop Andyburns a PM, he made this cool program that takes the data from the teams and shows the top Blocker, Passer, Fouler etc.

I wasn't able to get it to work on my computer due to being a luddite but a stats page would be cool for the Fringe.

Well i can now announce the lauch of the 1st Fringe Cup. There were only 16 places available so Lambert (who has been away for 18 days sadly) and some of the coaches already in WIL had to sit this one out.

Contact your opponents now to arrange the games as the 1st Round deadlines are on 26th March.

There is 1 space left for the cup as 2 coaches have expressed an interest in joining, i'll keep it open till the end of Sunday then one of the remaning fringe teams gets it.

After some time off following their disappointing finish in the Shetland Division, the Splendiforous Sylvans took to the pitch in the first round of the WIL Fringe Cup to face Unwashed Phalanx, a rookie goblin team. Given the beating they took against the goblins of Wacky Little Daffodils, the Sylvans were not taking this new opponent lightly, but they certainly were relieved to note Nobbla's absence from the field.

Receiving the kick, the Sylvans looked for a crease to break through and thought they had found one, but the catcher strayed too close to a goblin and got tripped over. With momentum gone, the game quickly developed into a scrum for the ball, in which the Sylvans got more than their fair share of lucky breaks. And as frail as elves are to most races, goblins proved to be more so. Eventually, the Sylvans had control of the pitch and were even able to stall a turn or so before rookie catcher Bazella Supinyo ran the ball into the endzone for the lead.

Most of the goblins returned thanks to smelling salts, but two stayed out, including one who took a crowd surf.

The Sylvans played deep with only three turns remaining, allowing the three brave lineelves on the LOS to face the horde of goblins on their own. Fortunately, they suffered no worse than a KO as a result. With time running out, the Phalanx were forced to try the flying goblin play, but the troll couldn't handle the throw and the half ended.

The second half began with the Sylvans getting a perfect defense, allowing them to place the catchers in position to challenge the ball behind the lines. A blitz on the ballcarrier was achieved, but the goblins proved much more resilient this half, and he merely dodged out of the way. Meanwhile, the trolls proved effective at dominating the line, and this time around it was the Sylvans who found themselves shorthanded.

With wise placement of goblins and effective blitzes by the trolls, the Phalanx marched up the field. The Sylvans slowed them down only by slipping a couple defenders back via dodges to prevent a breakout. Eventually, though, the back defenders were knocked down as well. The ballcarrier slipped by them, and it seemed inevitable that the goblins would score the equalizer on the following turn.

Fortunately, one of the catchers for the Sylvans, who had spent nearly the entire half prone by the sidelines, had struggled to her feet the previous turn, and the goblin guarding her had slipped away to help with the overwhelming of the defense. As her teammates rushed into position to prevent the other goblins from interfering, she dashed around the edge of the goblin formation and smashed into the ballcarrier. At first, it seemed it would be for naught as the goblin prepared to dodge away, but a second effort smacked the goblin hard, and the ball fell to the turf.

With the threat of a score weakened, the other Sylvans got their second wind and began laying out goblins again. Still, with the trolls around to knock down strategic elves, the Phalanx had one last chance. If a single goblin in the rear could pull away from his defender, dodge past several other elves and pick up the ball, and throw it successfully to an open goblin within reach of the endzone, the Phalanx could still tie the game. Fortunately for the Sylvans, the effort failed as the goblin tried to pick up the ball, and the Sylvans were able to play out the clock with their own unsuccessful ball pickup and throw combination.

Gordreg coached the Phalanx well, and only with a measure of luck were the Sylvans victorious. Good luck to the goblins in the Shield tourney. As for the Sylvans, they next face a group of dwarves who aren't nearly as likely to go down as the goblins were. Oh, well.

Greetings, folks.

I would be most interested in joining the Fringe, but I am on Eastern Standard time. My question is what time are most of you playing your league matches? I work weekdays from 7AM - 5PM EST (till 22:00 GMT I believe). Is that the usual time that you are all playing? I certainly don't want to be the one that is always hard to schedule games with..

Thanks!

We tend to encourage coaches to be able to play most games between 2000-2200 GMT which is peak time for UK based coaches. That is 2100-2300 Server time.

Whilst that is not critical, it just indicates when many of your opponants are likely to be able to play. if you were unable to make this particular slot 75% of the time then the odds are the league is not suitable. If you can mkae that slot 75% of the time you shoudl be fine.

Russo's example is very apt.

If you finish work at 22:00 GMT then that is the sort of time a lot of the coaches will be thinking about going to bed (or a couple of hours earlier if you are purplegoo) which would leave just weekends.

I am happy to have non-UK coaches in the league, (and even let shadow in Shocked ) but the playing times would be a problem, so you'd be better off looking for a league that plays at US times, there are loads about and i'm sure people in the forums can recommend some. I hate to refuse anyone but i do have to think about the other coaches in the league first.

Going on to the cup, we have had a great success so far with 6 out of 8 games played already!

Sadly 2 coaches have dropped out and Hoffmeister has been away for 8 days so far. I'm hoping he'll be back in time to play his game, but if not we will be looking for 3 people to join the 5 teams defeated in round 1 of the Cup when i kick off the Fringe Plate on 27th March (it was going to be 26th, but someone in the main WIL can't read a calender).

So if you want to join in the plate and can play at the key server times (about 20:00 - 0:00 server time) drop me a Pm with a list of teams you'd like to use.

Just to let you know, me and Hoffmeister are going to play our match this weekend, more than likely tomorrow.
