Season 24 kicked off this afternoon and in the Premiere league Season 23 Champions Black__Plague kicked off the new campaign with a tilt against The Savage Slings. The Slings are still in recovery mode after a brutal season 23 but have a couple quality players and 2 blooming stars. The match saw the inclusion of star player helmutt and his chainsaw on the Sling side as well as a shady looking wizard. Both teams were shocked to show up on the pitch and find a blizzard blowing through the stadium. The game started off pretty tame with the Rats grabbing the ball and getting it to their relatively new gutter runner Xah Tsaroth who scored a quick td for the rats. CyAn sent a Sling Blitzer to the Badly hurt box but the Slings Apothecary was on the job and patched him back up. The Plague set up on defense to try and contain the Slings and wait for an opportunity to take a shot at the ball. After a Riot held up the game for a turn the Slings worked their way down the field and were in position to tie it up to end the half when the ball carrying catcher started celebrating early and failed a dodge and crumbled to the ground ending the half. The second half saw the rats capitalize on an early miscue to grab the ball and a 2-0 lead. Cyan Bloodbane super fast Gutter runner for the plague was able to give the rats a commanding lead with only 1 quarter of the game left. The Slings took advantage of a the plague setting up in a prevent defense as the plague Rat ogre Ghostmaker decided he'd rather Roar than blitz and a failed dodge left the plauge stuck in their tracks as the Slings flew into the End zone. Needing to play keep away for 2 turns the plague was able to hold on despite the threat of the Wizard. And even tacked on a 3rd Td as Cyan Bloodbane handed off to the waiting Xah Tsaroth in the end zone to finish the game. After the Game it was announced that the Slings Wizard was being investigated for Fraud. It may turn out that he wasn't a wizard after all just a guy with a funny hat who was more than willing to take the Slings money and enjoy a good view of the match. While the score ended in the Plagues favor 2 more linerats were lost to the team as Rookie Linerat Percival who signed his contract just before the match started was killed on his first turn on the pitch. Linerat Kaz a relative grey beard in the Linerat ranks was also let go from the team after suffering a severe concussion. Team Dr's determined that since he now thought he was Batman he would be little use on the pitch. Was a fun game lets see if the season we can get a few more match reports up here in the forums so people in the different divisions can have an idea of whats going on!

Also, what the hell? I picked High Elves for my baller team partly because there were none in the league last season, and now all the rookie elves in the league are higher than a treeful of monkeys on nitrous oxide. When did trading skills for AV suddenly become cool?

Summary of Modern Family Redux vs Elven Caravan:

http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=match&id=3294342

A well-developed Elf team, Elven Caravan, had to bribe a new Chaos team, Modern Family Redux, with a million gold in order to get them to appear on the field. The Chaos team uses that to good effect, bringing a wizard, halfling master chef, and a bribe, and also star players Max Spleenripper and Grashnak Blackhoof. The elves have the fans with them, being the home stadium, but Modern Family wins the toss and chooses to receive, even though it's snowing in the stadium.

The master chef steals 2 RRs, leaving the elves with only 2 for the half. This is compensated for by the fans getting the ref, leaving both teams with an extra bribe. The kick lands where the chaos can easily secure it, and they do so before they BH a player and KO 2, including the chainsaw hitting a blodge/SS catcher. The elves respond by SI the chainsaw. The Chaos throw 6 dice at a blodge/ss blitzer, in order to foul him out of the game, but no success. The elves retreat to form a line, and the chaos use the star player grashnak to badly hurt the sidestepper they couldn't get the previous turn. The Chaos concentrate on hurting the elves instead of pushing the ball forward, fouling the remaining blitzer, but even with 4 assists, the puny foul can't break armor, and the player gets ejected even though the ref has fistfuls of money in his hand. With time running low, the Chaos work to move the ball past the remaining 5 elves. The elves manage to SI another Chaos, while the Chaos BH an elf catcher. The elf passer tries to dodge out of danger, but trips and BHs himself in the process.

With no way to advance the ball for free, the elves are unable to get the tie score in the turn before the half. The halfling chef takes 2 of their rerolls, leaving them with only 1 for the second half.

The chaos decide to increase the offense, blitzing the elves, but they're unable to do much. The elves start off the half by badly hurting a chaos warrior, but they have to use their only reroll on the first turn. They then throw the ball to a catcher who is exposed, even though he has blodge and sidestep. The chaos manage to get a pow for a stun, and the ball falls right into the hands of a waiting beast. After just 3 blocks the elves get a double-both down, and with no rerolls, that's the end of the turn for them. The chaos are down 9 players to 10 at this point, and they try to secure the ball, but the elves are very abundant. They can't get to the ball, but they can get a tacklezone on him with those pesky catchers. The chaos manage to clear out some space, and dodge down the sideline, but an elf catcher manages to dodge into 2 tacklezones, then 1, and get a both down to loose the ball, as well as fouling a player for a KO to get a better numerical advantage. The star player shows that he's not used to the team when he fails the second part of a frenzy with a double both-down, and decides that rerolls are overrated. The elves manage to secure the ball and take it downfield, all while fouling out chaos players, but with the tackler coming down, decide to take the score, leaving the chaos 2 turns to win the game.

A high kick puts the ball in the hands of a chaos warrior, while grashnak knocks a player down and then all the chaos rush forward to get in range of a score. After the elves position themselves, they decide their best chance is a single player with 2 guys on him. A lightning bolt is used on the blodging sidestep catcher... but it fails! It's not looking very good at this point. The other player is blitzed off of the potential receiver, and a few more players, including the blitzer who marked grashnak, are knocked down to make room for the handoff. The warrior with the ball runs up, and the beastman catches the ball in a tacklezone! He's then able to dodge out and GFI to make it to the endzone for the 2-1 win.

Elves in Luck - one of four High Elf teams to join the NWL this season - began their career with a match against the sophomore Underworld team UnderSky. The TV difference was used to snag a wandering apo, in the hopes of keeping the elves together during the period before they could hire one of their own from the winnings.

A bright, sunny day boded ill for passing games of any kind. UnderSky received the first kick, and while they were able to knock down a number of elves, they didn't break armour on any of them, including a three-assist foul. The Luckers fell back a bit to defensive positions, and on the next turn the troll UnderWear, when asked to toss one of his teammates, instead tried for a snack. While the luckless goblin managed to wriggle clear, this would start a definite trend on the troll's part during this game. The gobs and friends began moving the ball upfield, but ended up with a lot of goblins in contact with the elves, resulting in the first casualty of the game. A failed goblin dodge a couple turns later left the skaven ballcarrier exposed on the sidelines, and the skaven and a nearby goblin each ended up pushed into the crowd, freeing the ball up for an elf to snag. A both-down on a block saw both an elf and a goblin go down with casualties, although the BH of the elf meant he came out of the fight better than the -ST goblin. A TTM was fumbled, but a pair of dodges and four GFIs led to a successful blitz of the elf with the ball. The elves held a commanding 10-6 lead in bodies on the field, though, and were able to retrieve the ball and, after the troll double-skulled and failed the loner roll, were able to score with ease, though not before the troll failed another Always Hungry roll and a perm forced the elves to burn their apo.

Good KO rolls for the goblins left them with a full team to start the second, while the elves were down a pair. A missed pass and a series of bad bounces left the ball on the Underworld side of the line, though, and they took advantage, grabbing the ball and CASing another elf. The elves tried to stop the score, but had to settle for only rushing it, getting three turns to try to pull out of the tie. They were down 7-11 at this point, and out of rerolls, but the weather changing at least raised the hope of a passing game. A failed pickup left the ball exposed, and the troll finally managed to loft a goblin over without trying to snack. The goblins were no better at picking up the ball than the elves had been, though. Good dodges put a number of elves near the ball, put yet another pickup failed. The troll failed another TTM roll. The goblin blitz attempt failed a dodge, leaving a window for the elves to (maybe, possibly) score. 2d block needing a push; 2d blitz needing a push; 2+ dodge; 2+ dodge; 2+ pickup; 4+ throw; and finally, a 2+ catch from the catcher to seal the deal. In total, roughly a 22% chance of the score, but it came home! The goblins tried a TTM to even the score on the last turn, but despite a favourable bounce putting the ball into the hands of a goblin on the line, UnderWear fumbled yet another TTM roll, putting him a 1/6 on providing air-time on the game, and the elves took their first ever game. Thanks to Lorebass for the game, and I look forward to more games with this team!

Premier Division Round 1
Mirkwood Lumberjacks 1 - 0 Green Bayou Pacters

The match did not look good for the Lumberjacks early on. Turn 1 a Lino gets KO'd and the stupid sapling of a wood elf star player gets ruthlessly murdered by Burnt Starr. Then the treeman takes root. Not much choice but to back off, run away, and try to survive the 3 Big Guy onslaught. But the moment soon arrived to attempt one of those ridiculous elf turns. A lightning zap followed by some nifty Wardancer moves got the ball away and into the open, with a TD to follow T8.

Idk what happened in the second half. I remember guys getting KO'd & injured, running scared, and falling down a lot. 5 snake-eye turnovers for the elves this day. The Lumberjacks will not be intimidating anyone any time soon, losing the CAS battle 4-0, and inflicting a mere 3 armor breaks for the entire match. The Pacters didn't even have to put their stupid little Goblin on the pitch. What a slacker, that little guy sat on the bench for the entire match. He just sat and watched the elves, scared and outnumbered, somehow manage to wiggle their way out of another jam.

The Dead Morticians played back to back games for their round two and round three matches, loosing both in close battles. However, the team has returned to form, taking many casualties in the process.

In the first game against the Feral Teabaggers, the rough norse team was dominating the first half with a slow march down field until Skurl Burnteye paused just short of the goal line to flex his muscles and taunt the Morticians. This allowed the Morticians' hired wizard a perfect shot, which he used to great effect, seriously injuring Skurl. Ouran of the Dead Morticians recovered briefly, but was unable to escape the fierce Teabaggers and was flattened. With the ball loose again, Glama Golden of the Teabaggers tried to recover, but dropped the rain slicked ball to end the half without a score. The second half started with the Morticians receiving, but having a lot of trouble getting around the Teabaggers' superior blocking. Mid way through the second half it all fell apart for the Morticians... literally. Loosing 4 players so quickly to the brutal blocks of the Teabaggers, the Morticians' defense fell apart and the Teabaggers waltzed in for the winning score.

Demoralized after the beating just before as well as with their poor earnings, the Dead Morticians faced off against the NWL Iron Curtain with plans to try new tactics which included hiring a chef to improve morale with meals of brains! The Iron Curtain opened the game with a strong drive down field. While the Morticians occasionally had flashes of brilliant play, the overall ineptitude of their play was disheartening to say the least. The chaos team marched down and scored, but left some time to try for a quick reprisal. Things were looking up for the Morticians until the pass from the agile Ereden to the open ghoul Ouran was "intercepted" by the chaos warrior Death; the ball stuck to one of his horns. While the Morticians were eventually able to knock it loose, no one was able to get to the ball in time to score before time ran out. In the second half things were looking up, despite having two players banned early, as the Morticians managed to quickly take the ball down field. They held out as long as they could, but with several beastmen moving to charge the ball carrier Ouran, the Morticians decided to score while they could. This meant the Iron Curtain would receive the ball again, and only midway through the second half. The Iron Curtain began a determined push against the Morticians' center, when again the Morticians fell literally apart. Once again 4 players departed the field in short order, and just as before the Morticians' defense collapsed, allowing the Iron Curtain to march to victory.

Premiere Round 2
Black__Plague 3 Mutant Resistance 0

Well I had a pretty good length match report mostly typed in before I zapped it ;( to recap the Veteran Plague had their armour hold up the first half of the game and jumped out to a 2-0 lead before they really started to lose players. The Chaos Dwarves where hurt by two bulls failing gfi's even with Sure feet including one into the end zone with 2 turns left that would have cut the lead to 2-1 the rats scooped up the ball and despite cyan bloodbane getting fried by the wizard rooke linerat Aimless was there to pick up the ball and score to end the game. Gutter runner Xah Tsaroth was lost early in the second half with coach Cy saving the Apoth for more important Rats. Thanks for the game Tzij!

Premiere Round 3
Black__Plague 2 Green Bayou Pactors 1

For the first time this seaon the rats of the Plague were underdogs and hired a wizard and a rat babe for the match. The Plague set up their misters and dialed up some sweltering heat to help combat the Pactors. Electing to receive the Plague immediately dropped the ball and the gutter runners had to work some magic to make score 1-0 early in the game. The Skaven were unaffected by the heat while the Pact had one player succumb to it. The pact grabbed the ball and worked there way towards midfield where their dark elf ball carrier joined in a group to drop a boot on a poor linerat. Coach Cy had his wizard drop even more heat o the circle of bayou players with the ensuing fireball badly hurting the green bayou goblin and knocking over the dark elf ball carrier the teams spent the rest of the first half taking the ball from each other with neither team able to secure and get to the end zone. To start the second half all 4 rats in the KO box came back with the help of the scraggly rat babe and none of the remaining rats were not affected by the Heat. The pact was left a man short as one player remained knocked out and one needed aid for heat exhaustion. The pact grabbed the ball and attempted to set up their offense but the leaping rats jumped in and stole the ball getting it to cyan bloodbane who sped down and made it 2-0 for the plague just short of halfway through the second half. Coach Cy had the rats hang back and not pressure the ball in an effort to keep the critters alive for future matches. The Pactorsdsrk elf runner grabbed the ball and attempted to sprint into scoring range but he must have had some heat issues of his own ad he collapsed and dropped the ball. Despite the coaches orders seeing the ball on the ground was two much for the Plague and they rushed in and grabbed it looking to pad the lead Coach Cy's worries then came to fruition as star gutter runner Cyan Ariakus was killed Lucky for the plague the Apoth was able to save him but he would miss the remainder of this match plus the next one. Then gutter runner Cyan Bloodbane was also seriously injured. The rest of the rats wisely scatter and the Pactors were able to score on turn 16 to cut the lead in half. The Game ended after Ghostmaker managed to finally cause the Plagurs first casualty of the match thus matching the wizards total. The Wounded plague now await Modern Family Redux and the Pactors try to regroup. Good game Catalyst

The Charleston Cheaters are new to the NWL, but they already know exactly what they don't like about it- Elves!

They're just plain confusing. They run around, play with the ball, and smell like girls (which is ALSO confusing). After their first elf match, they decided not to take it lying down. Sure enough, their next opponent was a team of pleasant-smelling ladymen!

Determined not to lose by five touchdowns, the ogres and snotlings bore down, got drunk, and played their hearts out! The result? Two dead blitzers! This made the ogres very happy. They were even happier to learn that they did not, in fact, lose by five touchdowns. This was hard to convey at first, because numbers that can't be counted to on one hand are confusing too!

But everything got sorted out, and the ogres celebrated their 0-6 'victory' long into the night.

Thank Nuffle their next opponents are some proper goons!
