CHEFCTER: Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. My name is Stabbem Chefcter, long-time on-air personality for Blood Sports Daily Network, or BSDN, as it has become known as.

For many years, we were privileged to bring you a program which gave you an in-depth analysis behind the scenes of our beloved NBFL's Seasonal Draft.

WIPER JR: And my name is Kill Wiper, Jr, former NBFL Head Coach, General Manager, and VP of Football Operations. Alongside Mr. Chefcter, we dissected every previous draft, striving to bring you the insider knowledge, the up-and-coming news, as well as the closest interviews with all the important people, players, and coaches of the NBFL.

CHEFCTER: We are now happy to say that, after some creative contract negotiations, we've returned to be able to bring you the Season 17 NBFL Draft Review and Analysis Show!.

WIPER JR: It seems that with the unfortunate passing on Braun Jaunters, a new programming slot had freed up. Much to Jeffro's chagrin, the network scrapped the idea of Hard Jocks, the breakdown of the top-25 tightest pants-wearers in the league, a program which was to feature many of the players that Jeffro keeps posters of on his bedroom wall in his mother's house.

CHEFCTER: Wow, that didn't take long.... Still a lot of hostility there, Killy?

WIPER JR: He started this whole thing. I just try to stay two steps ahead of the pack...

CHEFCTER: Regardless of HOW it happened, we're BACK for Season 17, and we honestly couldn't be happier. We love what we do!

WIPER JR: How right you are, Stabby. For those of you tuning in for the first time, we grade each pick drafted by the teams of the NBFL, based on the team's needs, skills, and overall game-plan of the franchise. The better he fits in to the overall scheme of the squad, the higher the grade most likely will be.

CHEFCTER: We strive to bring you the best of the best when it comes to the league. We love it the best, and we want you to feel the same way. What do you say we get started, Killy?

WIPER JR: Can't wait, Stabby. Let's do this.

CHEFCTER: Away we go! Our first pick in the Season 17 NBFL draft belongs to a team who came across some hard times last season in the highly competitive AFC North.

1. BEARDYMOORE

Race: Dwarf
Player Selected: Herger (Nibraskah)
Skills: Block, +ST, +ST, +AG, Side Step – 111 pts.
Position: Runner

Grade of Pick: A+

CHEFCTER: This is a moment that all 32 franchises, as well as those who have come and gone, have waited for; the moment where Herger finally becomes available for the NBFL. Unfortunately for Beardymoore, their poor performance throughout last season offered them the chance at drafting him. It's one of those “sorry/not sorry” moments.

Herger was, and still arguably may be, the most dominant force to ever come from the ranks of the NCBB. He was unstoppable. He's looking to give the squad for coach WingedHuman instant credibility.

The boys in Beardymoore has some development, but it is spread rather thin. They do have one stand-out Star player in the likes of Blitzer Bullnose Stonehands. He's an excellent player for the franchise.

Oniel Deca-Cousins leads the Longbeard core and is the team's spiritual leader, being the elder statesman on the squad. He helps to train the younger, up-and-coming players.

A normal break-down of a franchise would usually involve a dissection of the squad's current roster and players. We here at BSDN hope you, the fans, will agree, that Herger is just head-and-shoulders above the rest of the field. It cannot be denied that his skill set will somehow be worked into anyone's franchise and game plan. He's just simply that good.

We've now witnessed the NBFL's Ricky Williams enter the league, minus the dreadlocks wig on their Head Coach. We're sorry that there's so little to talk about here, as it's just abundantly clear that Herger is going to be a strong presence for the Shavens for many years to come. We wish him and coach WingedHuman much success going forward.

WIPER JR: Our second pick in the Season 17 Draft belonged to a former division champion who had his squad's health take a serious turn for the worse last season...

2. TENNESSEE

Race: Orc
Player Selected: C.J. Bradshaw (Old Dominion)
Skills: Mighty Blow, Tackle, Guard, Piling On – 60 pts
Position: Blitzer

Grade of Pick: A+

WIPER JR: It was only a few short seasons ago that the Titanz were the top of the AFC South. Injuries sure took their toll in Season 16, seeing the squad post its lowest victory total in its history.

It certainly wasn't due to lack of coaching, as coach Arktoris is excellent with the “most with the least” game. After a certain point, there's only so much that a Head Coach is able to do with the resources he has at his disposal.

Let's see who is coming back to the squad for Season 17, and assess what positions need some assistance along the way.

TROLL: No. The legendary Michael von Bargen III is still going strong for the squad, having played in all but 3 of the squad's 113 matches. With his incredible set of skills for a Big Guy, there's no need to look to replace him.

BLACK ORC BLOCKER: Yes, there's a need here. Relatively speaking, the “BOB-squad” is rather young, with former draft pick Koren Kirven leading the way. There is a Rookie currently signed here, who could easily be replaced with some solid talent.

BLITZER: Yes, there's also a need here. There are only 3 of the allowed 4 players at this position, the most important position that the team has. These are the utility players of the franchise, being asked to do anything and everything. A high-quality player would be desirable here.

LINEMAN: It's rare of us to ever say that a core-position player won't help a franchise. With the positional needs, however, this would not be the first area that we would seek to improve. There IS room for upgrading, but the priority would be considered low.

THROWER: This could be possible, but as was the case with a LINEMAN, it would not be the first place I would look. Tory Kanal is the more experienced of the duo, but is far more offensive-minded than the position usually requires. Then, there's Marcus Mariota. He's rather young, but he already has a doubles skill to his credit, making him a distance passer. He will certainly have a better passing potential in the future than his counterpart, but does an Orc squad need to have a passing game? The bottom line is this: if there was an excellent player available here, it would certainly be worth considering, but may not be the first position I would be looking to upgrade at.

GOBLIN: No. I don't see a way of justifying an overall 2nd pick for an Orc squad on a Goblin, no matter how amazing the player may be. There's just too many more needs to consider.

As we have now looked at the roster, we should honestly be looking at the best players available for each group of positions, and see if the fit is what it needs to be. We won't need to look, however, at the Big Guy section, as we already know we won't be improving there through the draft.

BSDN identifies the best players available in each section of the draft as:

LINEMAN: Jeramy Bryant – Block, Dodge, +ST, +AG – 61 pts

SKILLED: Banks McFasty – Block, +AG, +MA, Tackle – 51 pts

BLITZER: C.J. Bradshaw – Mighty Blow, Tackle, Guard, Piling On – 60 pts

STRENGTH: My Schism – Block, Mighty Blow, Break Tackle, Piling On – 53 pts

Those are 4 VERY good players. We begin by trying to eliminate the ones we feel would be the least comfortable fit. For this group, that appears to be My Schism. He would really make an excellent Black Orc Blocker, but based on the other 3 players in this pool and the team's needs, he comes up as the least comfortable fit.

Out of the remaining three players, it just seems obvious that Bradshaw would be the best, most needed fit of the group. The Blitzer position is one of utmost importance to Orc squads. His skill set allows him to make an immediate impact for the ball club. He will primarily be used in hitting, but can also offer support when needed. He's an all-around excellent player for what Tennessee needs. He was the best player available to the squad. Coach Arktoris and the front office got this one exactly right.

CHEFCTER: Folks, we're only just beginning our wall-to-wall draft coverage of Season 17's NBFL Draft Review and Analysis Show. Stay with us! In our next segment, I'll be talking about the third overall pick, which went to a very young squad playing in the NFC East.

WIPER JR: And I'll have the number 4 pick, which belonged to a bunch of stout, strong, tough competitors in the NFC North.

CHEFCTER: Don't change that channel, fans! We'll be back after a few short messages...

CHEFCTER: Good evening, NBFL fans! Welcome back to the Season 17 edition of the NBFL Draft Review and Analysis Show. I'm your co-host, Stabbem Chefcter. Sitting on my side is long-time NBFL enthusiast and wildly devoted fanatic of QPR, Mr. Kill Wiper Jr.

WIPER JR: Great to be back, Stabby. How are you doing today?

CHEFCTER: Any day we can talk about the NBFL is a great day.

WIPER JR: Indeed.

CHEFCTER: We've only just begun to dive into this season's draft process. In this segment, we'll be discussing the 3rd and 4th pick.

WIPER JR: And, as always, we invite you, the fans, to get in touch with us via our social media network Spitter. Feel free to Spit those questions to us, and we'll do our best to bring you the information you want.

CHEFCTER: Right you are, Killy. For now, however, let's roll back into discussing some players. Our 3rd pick last season belonged to a relatively new franchise playing in the NFC East.

3. LIZARDELPHIA

Race: Lizardman
Player Selected: My Schism (Rolla)
Skills: Block, Mighty Blow, Piling On, Break Tackle – 53 pts.
Position: Saurus

Grade of Pick: B+

CHEFCTER: This franchise has an enormous hill to climb, not only on the field, but off the pitch as well. These boys have a rather dubious task of trying to capture the hearts of Philadelphia fans who have been spoiled all those years with barely-clad Norsemen slaying dozens of NFC East opponents. They sailed a championship into the city a few seasons back, forever engraving themselves in the hearts of fans everywhere. Now, this younger, beefier squad seeks to re-capture the glory that their predecessors were able to attain.

We mention to you the off-field scenario, but are primarily concerned with their on-the-pitch contributions to the NFC, be it pain-inflicting or high-speed scoring. These boys are a beautiful mix of punishing strength and sneaky, field-stretching speed. 7 players on the field with at least 4 Strength makes for a difficult match-up against nearly everyone.

This team is developed rather nicely, but we'll be looking add to the talent. Let's see what the roster currently has returning.

KROXIGOR: With S'eromes Brownscaless's on the squad, there won't be a need to seek a replacement here. His skill set is VERY nice for what Head Coach Arcayn asks of his boys. It's an excellent fit.

SAURUS: This is a possibility, sure. Two of the boys on the squad have learned their first skill, but have yet to progress further. The other 4 have developed very nicely, with S'chucks S'ednarikss's leading the way. He's the oomph for the squad thus far. There is room for improvement here for sure.

SKINK: Sure. These are the “dash for cash” boys. They get all the glory and splendor (and commercial endorsements) for the squad, being the ones to carry the ball. Their speed can only be matched by a select few teams, making them rather difficult to pin down. 7 of them are returning to the squad this season, with 2 of them being Rookies. There's certainly going to be some excellent talent available at this position in the draft.

We've at least been able to eliminate a Kroxigor from our list of desires, as the franchise is perfectly content with the job Brownscaless's is doing. We'll first look at the Saurus position, which are able to be drafted from the Blitzer or the Strength categories.

There are quite a few solid players awaiting their chance to play in the NBFL here. The favorite to be drafted at this time by all of us at BSDN would be Brother Ryan, out of the University of Oregon. He would bring a very solid skill set with him of Dodge, Frenzy, as well as some extra Strength (+ST). This would be the third ST5 player on the roster, along with S'ons S'runynss's and the aforementioned Brownscaless's. That kind of a front line would be nearly as difficult to deal with as a Khemri team.

If we search through the Skilled section for a high-quality Skink, we first have to consider what is already employed on the roster. The team already has 3 players that are able to harass the ball-carrier, so that may not be the first place to look. They also have a speedster in S'rians S'westbrkss's, as well as a very slippery git in S'leseans S'mccoyss's. We at BSDN feel like the best fit for the club at this position would be Joss Tillard out of Connecticut. He comes out of school equipped with Block, Sure Hands, Side Step and some extra movement (+MA), an excellent set of skills for a Skink.

The front office for the franchise assesses their needs, and selects My Schism, a hard-hitting player out of Rolla. This is not the way that we would have went, but it's still an excellent choice, as well as an excellent player.

The club now adds a bit more beef up front, which is not necessarily bad. It's certainly needed. Killy, what do you think about the pick?

WIPER JR: “Pretty good” pick, Stabby. Not GREAT, but a pretty good one. It's certainly a player who is going to be rather effective for the club immediately. The upside to Ryan, however, is in his skills. Ryan is only a few points away from becoming a Blodger. Add an extra bit of Strength to the mix, and make him Frenzy. That is the makings of a fantastic Saurus. He gives the front line a bit more leeway to operate in, as Frenzy will allow him to clear a bit more path for the offense to flow in. It would also stand to reason that a player with Frenzy will have a greater chance at causing casualties, as more blocks equals more chances for points. In short, adding a THIRD Blodging Saurus, while being able to add the THIRD ST5 player to the squad makes for a dynamite combination.

CHEFCTER: But he doesn't Blodge YET...

WIPER JR: Right you are, Stabby. The “Jacksonville Jinx” has to be considered here, but the upside to gaining those remaining 7 points is a chance that is worth taking.

CHEFCTER: The “Jacksonville Jinx”, Killy?

WIPER JR: When a team drafts a player that desperately needs Block, and is only a few points away from the skill, but dies before he can achieve that level... It seems to happen to Jacksonville more times than not in the past, so we've called it their jinx...

CHEFCTER: Still, what about Schism for the team, Killy?

WIPER JR: He certainly does bring a skill set that the club is in need of, Stabby. Nobody can say that the kid is not a high-quality player. In the NBFL, however, more times than not, it needs to come down to the best player available for what your needs are. The folks at BSDN felt that Ryan was the more appealing choice all-around for the Lizardmen front line.

CHEFCTER: And this is why we have you on board, Killy... Just to give us that extra insider viewpoint.

WIPER JR: Still a high-quality player going to Lizardelphia. We wish them nothing but the best going forward..

(PROGRAMMING NOTE: We had hoped to secure an interview with the Head Coach of Lizardelphia, but we are told he is currently unavailable due to some heated, drawn-out training programs for his squad...)

Our 4th pick belonged to a group of stocky warriors who have been an area favorite for many seasons now. Whenever anyone speaks fondly of the Windy City, they inevitably pair their sentiments with their Blood Bowl franchise....

4. CHICAGO

Race: Dwarf
Player Selected: William Spears (Vampirebilt)
Skills: Dodge, (+MA), (+MA), Frenzy – 51 points
Position: Blitzer

Grade of Pick: B

WIPER JR: The Beards had a tough go of it last season, which isn't a terrible surprise. We don't say that to mean any insult to the team or the Coach. We say that because of the tremendous surge that has been present in two of their division rivals, Green Ball and Minnesota. They have both features heavily in the NFC Playoff scenarios as of late, which has left a bit of a gap between the best and “the rest” of the NFC North.

Thankfully, the gap isn't so wide that it can't be overcome. Blood Bowl is a wonderful, gory, strange, lovely game in that way. The game can be anybody's for the taking.

Let's analyze where the strengths and weakness are for the squad, and see if we can offer some assistance.

BLITZER: While being permitted to employ 2, the squad only has 1 signed at the moment, and what a player it is! Brandon Marshall has played in all but 1 match for the club, developing himself into an excellent all-around player. The position is one of importance, so getting him some help would certainly be something to consider...

DEATHROLLER: This is an area of Strength, with The Sodfather still being on the squad. He's quite a force to deal with on the front line.

LONGBEARD: It's more of a strength than a weakness here. With 8 players employed here, only 2 of them are pure Rookies. A third only has Guard thus far. The top few boys are very good. It could be considered a need if the team was searching for a Dirty Player or a Kicker, but if that was the only needs the club had, they wouldn't be drafting fourth....

RUNNER: This is a STRENGTH. There are two beauts already committed to the squad in Gokiburi Amichia and Michael Ford. They compliment each other nicely, with one being a bit more pass-oriented than the other.

TROLL SLAYER: This is the same scenario as the Blitzer position. They're permitted to employ 2, but currently only have 1 signed. The senior guy here, Martellus Bennett, has been around quite a long time, but is a bit dinged up in his upper body. This could also be a position to seriously consider drafting at.

We have two glaring needs to address, but only one pick to make. We must then take a lot at both the Blitzer and the Strength categories to see what the best player available is in each section.

In Blitzer, it would be Willie Buchanon – Mighty Blow, Guard, Tackle, Piling On – 52 pts.

For the Strength category, the best opportunity might be Chance – (+ST), Side Step – 23 pts.

There really isn't a perfect fit for an awesome Troll Slayer in this class, which has been a problem for the last 3 or 4 drafts now. Chance would prove to be the most unique and interesting player available for the position, but is he worthy of a top-5 pick? BSDN certainly didn't think so, and as such, moved on from choosing a Troll Slayer.

The front office for the club felt the same way we did. They examined the draft class, and elected to add William Spears to the squad. This is a very interesting pick for a few reasons.

Spears comes out of college with Dodge, Frenzy, and two extra bits of movement (+MA, +MA). As a Blitzer, he's a nice addition with all the extra movement. He plays the position in the truest form, able to put a body on more folks than Dwarves normally can. In short, he's the guy you actually want to be using the blitz action.

The interesting part comes with him having Frenzy. He's now able to function as the missing Troll Slayer for the squad. The utility is nice, but is it the best fit?

It begins to become a bit tedious to control more than 2 players with the Frenzy skill. It DOES have its advantages, but it certainly is not easy to manage. Even top-notch Norse coaches struggle with 5 potential players with the skill on the starting roster.

By drafting a Frenzy Blitzer, it's possible that he hinders the desire to fill the final Troll Slayer role, one that proves to be rather important to a Dwarven squad. It's still a position that has an extra point of movement over a Longbeard, and also has Dauntless on board. Any extra movement that can be had proves to be vital to Dwarven roster.

CHEFCTER: Interesting analysis, Killy. I take it you would have went with Buchanon?

WIPER JR: I would have been heavily leaning in that direction, yes. The team can certainly use a another hard-hitter on the roster. The Longbeards are already laden with support for such a player to function. It seems that, based on what is already in place, Buchanon would most likely have been the best fit for the squad as it is currently comprised...

CHEFCTER: Don't go too far, folks. We're up against a commercial break here, but we'll be back soon enough to discuss our next two squads from the recent NBFL draft. At pick number 5, I'll be talking about our first expansion franchise in Season 17; a new AFC East team and a city that has been on a bit of an unlucky streak for a few seasons.

WIPER JR: And, at pick number 6, I'll be speaking about another expansion team; joining the fray in the competitive confines of the NFC East.

CHEFCTER: Stick around, fans! We'll be back shortly...

KillyFanboy11@NBFL_DRaA_Show wants to know:

What did you guys do before becoming the smartest and bestest looking NBFL analysists of all times? Is it true you have been professionals in NBFL yourself, like my dad always says? If so, which position did you play? Can you send me a signed blood bowl card from back in these days? Marv would go nuts once I show it to him.
Kind regards

CHEFCTER: Welcome back, NBFL fans! You are watching the Season 17 NBFL Draft Review and Analysis Show. I'm your co-host Stabbem Chefcter, sitting alongside NBFL enthusiast and Olympic Dressage medalist, Mr. Kill Wiper Jr. How's it going, Killy?

WIPER JR: Doing well, Stabby, thank you. Now that English Premiere League Soccer has begun again, it'll be another year of watching both Palace and QPR struggle to bring me any solace and joy.

CHEFCTER: Just imagine if you were a Jacksonville fan, Killy.

WIPER JR: Those poor, poor people, Stabby....

CHEFCTER: We've already been through last season's first 4 draft picks. In this segment, we're set to dissect pick numbers 5 and 6, but first, care to take some fan mail, Killy?

WIPER JR: I would be happy to, Stabby. What have you got for me?

CHEFCTER: Our questions have been coming in via our social media network Spitter. This one comes to us from @LetsGetKraken. He wants us to talk about Miami's chances this season, especially since the Super Bowl Defending Champion is in their division.

WIPER JR: Miami had a serious surge a few seasons ago, but has had a few setbacks recently. Nothing awful to speak of, but a few injuries here and there have been problematic mid-season. Their “big 3” are still in tact, with Bud-O-Shwek, the team's Chaos Ogre and clubhouse motivator, leading the way. He's played in all but one single match in the history of the Krakens, which is truly a testament to his desire to succeed.

Their under-belly, if they actually have one, is their lack of underlying support. The team only has 3 players with Guard on the club, despite its full compliment of 16 players. They don't feature a Kicker, but they do have a Dirty Player on the squad. It's one thing to be able to block your opponents into their graves, but giving some players Guard will help to reduce the amount of blocks coming back at you.

Their chances this season are “good”. Not “super duper fantastic”, but I'd dare say “pretty darn good”. As they're comprised now, they'll easily be a playoff contender this season, if not a division champion. It's all going to depend on health between these boys and their bitter rivals and defending Champion New Angryland Bulltrots.

CHEFCTER: Keep those Spitter questions coming, sports fans! We've received a few others, which we'll be addressing in later segments. For now, however, let's roll back into our draft analysis.

Our fifth pick from the Season 17 NBFL draft belongs to a younger squad struggling to establish itself within the destruction that is the AFC East.

5. BUFF 'N' LOW

Race: Dwarf
Player Selected: Banks McFasty (Clemson)
Skills: Block, Tackle, +AG, +MA – 51 pts
Position: Runner

Grade of Pick: C-

CHEFCTER: These stout warriors have a lot of experience doling out punishment. This isn't their first trip to the big leagues. Their meddle will certainly be tested this coming season, as they are stepping into a division that has become known for leaving bodies strewn after a visit to their opponent.

This should be a rather fun, interesting division to watch this season. Dwarves are unfortunately slow, but they can make up for it in dealing out punishment in droves. If they can catch up to you, they'll make you pay.

Let's dive into the roster and see if we can predict where the help is most needed.

BLITZER: Two players are already signed in the likes of Josie Skull and Zabron the Merciless. These two guys are both well-developed, fine examples of what the position should entail. I wouldn't think this would be the place where the most help could be offered.

DEATHROLLER: We would say no. This is because the squad does not currently employ one, and has not ever employed one in the franchise's history.

LONGBEARD: We here at BSDN like to subscribe to the theory that there is always room to add a quality core-position player to a franchise. This time is no exception. Brun Kuprus leads the charge for the boys here, with a number of quality players working at his side. There are a few younger players, but no Rookies; everyone has at least one skill. This is a place that help can be added.

RUNNER: Yes. These guys are permitted to sign two. This team is the home of NBFL Super-Star Hundley Copperspur, who has scored over 25% of the franchise's touchdowns over his long career. His counterpart is still rather young, so there could certainly be some help to be added here.

TROLL SLAYER: I wouldn't think so, no. The two boys that are already signed, Deniz Dent and Hagan the Hulk are top notch. We would be hard-pressed to offer a significant upgrade over either of these players via the draft.

It would appear that we have identified a Runner and a Longbeard as a need for boys up north. Let's take a look at what's out there...

Breezing through the Skilled section of the draft class, there's a beauty of a prospect for this squad in the likes of Thompson, coming out of Karak University with Block, +ST, +AG, and Pass. The stats for this guy make him extremely desirable, as well as difficult to play against. That's just the kind of player that would really compliment Copperspur effectively. Thompson would be facing a slight point reduction, but it's a compromise that should certainly be made to add a ball-handler with this skill set to the roster.

BSDN would certainly have jumped on Thompson immediately, but we'd still like to examine the possibilities at the Longbeard position. As we examine the Lineman and Blitzer section, the candidate that comes to the top of the class for this team would be William Spears, coming with Dodge, Frenzy and two extra points of movement. Movement is always lacking on Dwarven teams, so this would be a nice benefit, especially for a Longbeard.

Unfortunately for Buff 'n' Low, Spears found his way off of the board even earlier than pick 5. This really shouldn't be a surprise to anyone who is a devoted fan of the NBFL.

When you compare the two players, however, it's stll clear that Thompson is a leap above everyone. It looks obvious that the Runner is the way to add the most bang for our buck.

The front office examines the list, and comes to a similar conclusion: a Runner: They decided, however, to go in a different direction. They elect to draft Banks McFasty, who comes with Block, Tackle, and some extra Agility and Movement.

WIPER JR: You don't like this pick at all, do you, Stabby?

CHEFCTER: Not really, Killy. A Dwarven that has two incredibly dynamic Runners is incredibly hard to deal with. The skill set of the squad is ideal for offering the maximum amount of protection to their ball-handlers. An ST4 Runner becomes very difficult to account for with the amount of Guard that Dwarves are able to field.

WIPER JR: This could have really been a team having a “Gruesome Twosome” on the roster. Thompson could be your more prototypical carrier, grinding down the field with a 4 Strength. Copperspur can offer you some more late-game heroics when needed. In pinches, you can play both Runners and play some excellent Elfball amidst a field of Guard and Mighty Blow.

At the very least, you can even think about pushing Copperspur to a one-turn score, a feat that is very rarely achieved by most, let alone a Dwarven team. Thompson can pick up and deliver the ball with his 4 Agility to Copperspur, also with a 4 Agility. From there on in, push away to the score...

CHEFCTER: Interesting thought, Killy. I hadn't even considered that idea.

WIPER JR: I can see the appeal of McFasty. He IS, after all, a high-quality college player. The combination of Movement and Agility is what would be the big draw for a Dwarf team. I get that. The upside of having a +ST Runner, however, far outweighs having the extra Movement, as the passing scenarios just don't play out often enough to factor as highly in the long-term decisions for the position.

In short, the position they drafted was correct, but missed a golden opportunity to draft a bonafide monster to play it.

Our 6th pick in the Season 17 NBFL Draft belonged to the new kids on the block in the rapidly evolving NFC East.

6. NEW YORC (NFC)

Race: Orc
Player Selected: Junior (Karak University)
Skills: Mighty Blow, Dodge, +AG, Guard – 68 pts.
Position: Blitzer

Grade of Pick: A

WIPER JR: These guys will have their work cut out for them early on. They'll be facing some top-quality competition on the pitch twice a year in the likes of Weaklington, Malice, and fellow youngster Lizardelphia. Their fair city has struggled these past few seasons to field a contender. The fans, therefore, are anxious to see a squad come in and at least compete for a playoff spot. The residents of New York just want to be relevant again on the NFC side of the league.

Enter new Head Coach Romeosky6. He's been tasked with the rebuilding of the franchise. His assembled front office seems rather competant at identifying talent, as evidenced in their Expansion Draft. Here, however, they're hoping to give an opportunity to a recent NCBB graduate.

The front office has elected to field an Orc franchise; a solid choice. There's little that they can't do when it comes to the pitch. They can hit, foul, play defense, and even have an average passing game, if it comes to it. They could even, in a pinch, hurl a teammate: still one of the most exciting plays in all of Blood Bowl.

With a young Orc squad, the scenario would most likely be to draft a solid position player to pilot the franchise on the pitch. Typically, that will come in either one of two positions for Orcs; either a Thrower or a Blitzer. Taking a quick glance at the draftees from the Season 17 NBFL Expansion Draft, the front office has already picked up its franchise QB and a very strong front-line Black Orc Blocker. That makes our choice that much easier, as the Blitzer position is the most important to the squad.

So, without further ado, we delve into the Blitzer section of the Draft Pool.

The gurus of BSDN have identified 3 potential candidates. We'd like to discuss the benefits of each of them.

Choice 1: Brother Ryan – Frenzy, +ST, Dodge – 44 pts.

Ryan is an excellent player. +ST candidates are not terribly common, as only a 12 can allow a Strength trainer to arrive at a club's camp. Let's add to the equation that he also is able to Dodge, a double roll for an Orc Blitzer. Having a bit of extra Strength really highlights the last skill in his arsenal, Frenzy. For the overwhelming majority of blocks, you would no longer have to worry nearly as much about adding multiple assists; he has the Strength to handle things on his own. Ryan ranks very high on the list for available players this year, let alone for this particular draft slot.

Choice 2: Willie Buchanon – Mighty Blow, Guard, Tackle, Piling On – 52 pts.

Buchanon is a nicely developed offensive player. He can hit on his own as well as add support to his teammates. He's just not the best fit for this particular squad. His skill set is nice, but there's nothing special or extraordinary. He has 4 regularly acquirable skills. He doesn't have anything to help him stand out above the rest of the squad. He's still a good player, but it's unfair to put the burden of carrying a franchise early on the shoulders of Buchanon.

Choice 3: Junior – Mighty Blow, +AG, Dodge, Guard – 68 pts.

Junior is an outstanding player. He's a very mobile heavy-hitter, as Orcs would go. The combination of Agility and Dodge allows him to get to a few places normal Orcs wouldn't normally venture. Now, add Mighty Blow to the equation. This means that when he gets there and hits you, you're going to KNOW that he was there. After that, take into account his Guard skill. If he's out blazing a trail for the cage to move, it's not as much of a concern leaving him at the front of the pack, as his Dodge and Guard keep him healthier.

The folks of BSDN eliminated Willie Buchanon from the equation, with the other two possibilities on the table. In the end, despite the beauty of a Strength player being avaible, the combination of skills that Junior offers is just too good to pass by for a younger club.

Thankfully, the front office of New Yorc felt the same way we did, and took their new star Blitzer off the board. It was, indeed, the correct choice to make. An excellent player to add to a fledgling squad in the NFC.

CHEFCTER: Don't run off so fast, folks! We're through the first 6 teams of this season's NBFL Draft. In our next segment, we'll be talking about some younger squads in the AFC. I'll happily be discussing a new squad of extremely agile boys playing in the Dawg Pound this season.

WIPER JR: And for pick #8, we'll be discussing the new squad joining the AFC South this season to beat up on perennial punching bag Jacksonville.

CHEFCTER: No love at all for them, Killy?

WIPER JR: Come on, Stabby. It's Jacksonville.....

CHEFCTER: I guess you're right, Killy. Stick around, folks. There's more NBFL discusion coming at you, right after this commercial break!

I dunno, Houstovania left them a little ragged to face off against Skaven in week 2.

CHEFCTER: We are back, folks. Welcome back to the Season 17 NBFL Draft Review and Analysis Show. I'm your co-host, Stabbem Chefcter. Sitting alongide me is my co-host and amateur flying-suit tester, Mr. Kill Wiper Jr. How's it going, Killy?

WIPER JR: Doing well, Stabby, thank you.

CHEFCTER: For those of you just joining us, welcome to the program. We've already discussed the first 6 picks from last season's draft. In this segment, it's all about the AFC, as we discuss two new-comers to the party. But first! Killy, care to take a Spitter question or two?

WIPER JR: That sounds fine, Stabby. Happy to do it!

CHEFCTER: As we do every season, we invite you, the fans, to hit us up on the social media network Spitter. We take your though-provoking questions, and try to track down those answers from the bests in the NBFL. This one comes to us from @NBFL_DraA_Show. He wants to know, and this is a real question:

“What did you guys do before becoming the smartest and bestest looking NBFL analysts of all times? Is it true you have been professionals in NBFL yourself, like my dad always says? If so, which position did you play? Can you send me a signed BB card from back in the days? Marv would go nuts once I show it to him!”

WIPER JR: I started playing high school Bowl way back when. I had never really developed the size to play with all the big boys, so they made me into a Kicker. It was a few games into our season when the Head Coach realized I could sneak through all those big players to drop a boot into a downed opponent. Some good coaching taught me to excel at boot and elbow placement. Unfortunately, my style of play earned me the term “Dirty Player”, earning me some early exits from matches, much to my protest.

I made it through college, and manage to play one season for a professional team. Unfortunately, this was long before the NBFL had been formed, so there wasn't any marketing merchandise to collect back then, like hats, jerseys, or trading cards. I would gladly send you something if there was anything to send.

I did, however, find my way into the NBFL as a member of the front office of the very first Saint Louis squad, with original Hall of Famer Merlin Olsen. After the franchise was sold, I had been given an opportunity to coach a very good Arizona franchise until they were eventually sold. I was also fortunate enough to land in the front office of Denver for a few years, but finally found my real passion in broadcasting.

CHEFCTER: That's kinda where I fall into this equation. I had known since I was a young lad watching soccer that I wanted to be in sports journalism. I finally got an opportunity after breaking my foot playing soccer when I was 14. I was devastated, not being able to run and play with all my friends. So, to satisfy my need for involvement, I took to calling their games for some of the parents. Everything was rather informal, but it did feature some player interviews and stats. My high school got wind of my undertakings, and asked me to sit in their booth for their Friday night matches on local Cabalvision. From there on, despite my joy for the thrill and excitement of the pitch, I knew that bringing that excitement though journalism was the way I could reach the most people.

So, fast forward a number of years ahead. I had been calling matches for the Baltimore Necros...

WIPER JR: You know, in all these years, Stabby, I still think that was the best team logo ever...

CHEFCTER: I'm in total agreement with you, Killy. They were a wonderful bunch of people, but the franchise folded, as did many of the older squads. It was then that BSDN approached me to be an on-air analyst for the NBFL on their fledgling network. I thought it would be a brave, bold new opportunity to share my love for this sport with the largest target audience possible. I jumped at the chance. I arrived, excited, on the set for the first day, only to learn that I would be co-hosting. In walked a gentleman whom I knew fairly well, a man that was a former executive in the Denver franchise, and whom I had dealings with on a few occasions when our teams played each other. He had always been gracious and courteous in his time. In walked Mr. Kill Wiper Jr. We both share that same fiery passion for the NBFL, so it's no coincidence that we get along very well.

WIPER JR: It's true. As much as I love what I do, a lot of it is because of the people we cover, and the person I get to cover it with.

CHEFCTER: That's very nice of you to say, Killy. Thank you. If it isn't obvious, we really LOVE what we do, and that we get to share it with everybody.

WIPER JR: Everyone except Jacksonville.....

CHEFCTER: Well, Killy, even them... we just enjoy poking fun at them as they are still in full rebuild mode.

WIPER JR: I know, Stabby... But not Jeffro... That guy can go bang his hand...

CHEFCTER: Moving on..... Please keep Spitting those questions at us, NBFL fans! We'll take a few more as the show progresses. For now, let's talk about another squad in the league, specifically in the highly competitive AFC North.

7. CLEVELAND

Race: Elf
Player Selected: Thompson (Karak University)
Skills: Block, +AG, Pass, +ST – 67 pts.
Position: Catcher

Grade of Pick: A+

CHEFCTER: We welcome the Pansy Dogs to the NBFL this season, and wish them nothing but a world of success going forward. We know that it's possible for an Elf squad to have a lot of success in the league, as evidenced by perennial NFC South power house Carolina.

It's never easy starting out in the NBFL. Now, take into account that they'll be joining the likes of AFC monster Cincinnati. They've been so dominant over the years, they've caused other teams to fold or move in fear. It's an uphill climb for these boys, but they've got a head coach that is more than capable of handling the challenge in Valen.

We know that in the Expansion Draft, the squad was able to draft two high-quality Linemen to help the cause right away. We're figuring that we'll be looking at a positional here, but what is out there to look at? Let's break down the remaining “Best Of” in each category to see if we can come across an ideal fit. We'll be bypassing the Lineman section, for purposes of looking at a position player.

In the Skilled section, the best choice would be Thompson – Block, +ST, +AG, Pass – 67 pts.

In the Blitzer section, the best choice would be Brother Ryan – Dodge, Frenzy, +ST – 44 pts.

Unfortunately, those are the only sections that an Elf squad can choose from, aside from the Linemen, which has already been selected in the Expansion Draft.

It seems like an easy choice to the folks of BSDN, so it must be easy to the fans of all the NBFL. Thompson is, by far, the better player of the two. The decision now switches to position.

Normally, it would seem somewhat simple: the player has Pass, so he must be a Thrower. The front office and Head Coach, however, would beg to differ...

Valen makes an excellent decision here. He decides to draft him as a Catcher instead, even with the Pass skill. It's a fantastic selection on a number of levels. The player now will not face a points reduction, due to an overlapping skill. His skill set is top notch for the position. Thompson really becomes a jack-of-all-trades, as he has some extra movement to handle a bit more distance throwing. This pick is going to be a nominee for the Steal Of The Draft, sponsored by the city council of Pittsburgh. When you think of a Steel, think of Pittsburgh...

Don't let us just sit here and gush as to the merits of this pick. Let's try to get the insider view as to how this pick came to be. It's our esteemed privilege to welcome to the program for the first time the new Head Coach of the Cleveland Pansy Dogs, Coach Valen. How's it going, Coach? Stabbem Chefcter and Kill Wiper Jr here.

VALEN: It's going well guys, looking forward to the new season.

CHEFCTER: Coach, we just briefly discussed the utility you've created out of drafting Thompson as a Catcher. Take us through the thought process as to how this came about.

VALEN: That's what he is, not sure what you are getting at? All my guys can pass, catch and run, utilities all over the field.

WIPER JR: Coach, Kill Wiper Jr. here. One thing that people out there could unwisely criticize is your selection of 2 Linemen in this season's Expansion Draft. What was the thinking in going with Linemen over other positional players, such as a quality Blitzer?

VALEN: Linemen are important too, these two guys were too good to pass up, Blitzers are ten a penny. But good Linemen like these guys are hard to come by.

CHEFCTER: Coach, you've got an enormous climb ahead of you, forming a young franchise in the AFC North where some heavy bruisers reside. Your boys come into matches just hoping to chuck the ball all around the pitch, and not worry about much armor. What are some of the challenges you're going to face having to deal with some Skaven, Dwarves, and of course, the ridiculousness that is the Nurgle in Cincinnati?

VALEN: I don't see it as a challenge at all. They should fear our class and ability. Just because they have been around so long doesn't mean we should fear them.

CHEFCTER: I love that answer! So Coach, any predictions for how you see the AFC North shaking down this season?

VALEN: We will win it. We are Elves. We are superior. Who cares what the other three get up to?

CHEFCTER: Coach Valen of the Cleveland Pansy Dogs, thank you so much for dropping by our show today. All the best to you going forward.

VALEN: Thank you, back to the field for me now.

CHEFCTER: I can't get over how great of a pick this is, Killy.

WIPER JR: That's why he got the job, Stabby. You don't always think of the best ways to use players, especially since he comes right out of the box with a passing skill. Playing as a Catcher may qualify him as the player with the most Utility in all of the NBFL.

We can have that debate at another time. For now, let's continue talking NBFL teams. I have the honor of talking about the 8th pick from this past draft. It happened to belong to a re-formed team in the AFC South.

8. HOUSTOVANIA

Race: Necromantic
Player Selected: Michael Tolbert (Old Dominion)
Skills: Block, Dauntless, Mighty Blow, Shadowing – 51 pts
Position: Werewolf

Grade of Pick: A-

WIPER JR: The fans of Houston went through a crazy year last season. They began the season with a well-established franchise, which folded quickly. They were then bought and re-formed as quickly as possible by the current front office. They needed to get a product on the field, and was able to field a Vampire team. These guys, unfortunately, didn't fare well at all.

The front office decided to do a near-total overhaul of the program. The only thing they elected to keep was Head Coach Antithesisoftime. Houston's franchise and fans felt as though they had (and still have) the right Coach to turn the team around.

The next step was to hire a new squad, after finally deciding that it would be a Necromantic team that would be formed. This would be the 2nd squad in the division with Regeneration.

After attending the Expansion Draft, the team has picked up two beautiful positionals in a superstar Flesh Golem and an excellent Wight. Let's take a look at the best players available in each section, and decide who would create the best fit for this young squad.

Lineman: Jeramy Bryant – Block, Dodge, +AG, +ST – 61 pts.

Bryant is an excellent player, to be sure. The skill set would not really be the best for a Zombie, as that would be the only position to qualify for this section.

Skilled: This is where things will begin to veer off. Two different positions qualify here, a Ghoul and a Werewolf.

GHOUL: Joss Tillard – Block, +MA, Side Step, Sure Hands – 67 pts

WEREWOLF: Michael Tolbert – Block, Mighty Blow, Dauntless, Shadowing – 51 pts.

For this section, these are two excellent players, either of which would prove to be great for a young Necromantic team. Tillard would be a fantastic ball handler for the team. Tolbert could be a fierce offensive force, dealing out damage in the front line.

Blitzer: Willie Buchanon – Mighty Blow, Guard, Tackle, Piling On – 52 points.

Buchanon would be a dynamic player, but might best be served playing as a Wight, seeing as how Werewolves do not come with Block on board. He could be an all-around type of player, used for hitting, utility, or just about anything you could ask of him. He's “pretty good”, but is he a “great” talent to add?

These were the choices that we were faced with at BSDN. We started by first eliminating Jeramy Bryant from the possibilities, as drafting a Zombie at 8, no matter how good he may be, just doesn't seem like it would be worth the pick.

That narrows the field to 3. We should note that with the drafting of a Flesh Golem in the Expansion Draft, and with the perennial lack of depth in the Strength section of the drafts as of late, BSDN did not see a viable opportunity to draft a second Flesh Golem for the team.

This is a difficult decision. It is widely known and accepted that Ghouls tend to be viewed as under-performers, bloats, and not as useful on Necromantic squads. They're often over-shadowed by the other position players. But what if there was a very good one to come along, especially designed to carry the ball?

It is highly worth a look. Werewolves tend to skill very quickly, as they're asked to do nearly everything on younger squads. They will be able to skill up rapidly, so would there be a need to draft one here?

It could be considered a bit more of a risk to draft a Ghoul, seeing as how you're not counting on them for anything else other than ball control. Whereas, a Werewolf can do that, and quite a bit more, if needed. The long-term is always hazy, but the short-term would say that Tolbert would add a bit of respect to the squad immediately. You have to take into account his ability to hit anyone and everyone.

Either of these players would be a fine addition to the club, but the front office selects Tolbert, and probably rightly so. With a high-quality player blazing the trail up front, it makes room for the folks following him to improve and grow with him. A ball-handling Ghoul may take a bit of time to develop fully, but you'll have the time to try, as you take one thing out of the hands of the Werewolves, leaving them up front to attend to removal of the enemy.

CHEFCTER: But the grade only came out as an A-? Why wasn't it a straight A?

WIPER JR: It had to do with the math of the formula, Stabby. The truth is, with the formula that BSDN uses, there was NO A or A+ pick available to the franchise. In fact, the math dictates that Tillard rates slightly higher than Tolbert.

CHEFCTER: That's an odd scenario, Killy.

WIPER JR: It's only the 2nd time we've come across this scenario when analyzing the draft.

CHEFCTER: There you have it, folks. The draft always proves to be exciting! Don't run away, fans. In our next segment, I'll be discussing a new squad joining the highly competitive AFC West.

WIPER JR: And with the 10th pick, I'll be talking about yet another brave new squad to join the AFC North.

CHEFCTER: You won't want to miss what we have to say! Stick around, folks!
