This forum thread is for anything relating to Season 66 of the SWL.

Links:
  • SWL Group Page
  • SWL Guide (make sure to read this if you're new to the SWL)
  • Channel BB! (post your fluff here!)
  • REMINDER: Channel BB! is our fluff forum - any entries in this forum must be IN CHARACTER. For informal chatter, please use the current season forum thread (ie, this one!)

HouseKeeping:

  • Divisional Structure
    1 Premier, 3 Conferences, 1 Regionals
    - Due to an odd number of coaches this season, Conferences will all consist of 10 teams. The season is still 7 rounds long, so there will be byes.
  • Season Commencement
First round will begin on Monday 26th September with a deadline of 10th October. Round 7 deadline is the 21st November.
  • Axing
PM to the swladmin FUMBBL account by 10pm Monday SWL (Sydney) time if your game has not yet been played. Check out the Guide for more information or check with someone else in chat. Refer to post below for more details about expectations. This is also the method for advising of parking at the end of a season.
  • General
Please be aware that we rely on individual coaches to be active in checking this forum, arranging games against opponents (especially if not on east coast of Australia) and in communicating with Admins. The responsibility is on the coach to enquire, not the Admins to inform. Please feel free to ask questions.
  • Trial of Blood
Please be aware that the Trial of Blood is not a chance for teams to grow at the expense of competitive play. Play to win and keep the integrity of the SWL intact. If admins deem that a coach is not abiding by this then the team may have to retrial.[/i]

Rules to be brought in for Season 666:

  • The Skye Award will be introduced to recognise and encourage the spirit of sportsmanship in the SWL. Further details in the following post.
  • Please note that the SWL guide has been updated to further clarify the Trial of Blood rules; particularly, the rule for playing a coach only once has been added (rule has never changed, just missing from the most recent guide rewrite). The 'Change Log' button on the SWL Guide part of the Group page details the change.
  • This very important point has been added to make sure that people have read this far. Good job!

Commish's Comments:

  • IMPORTANT: As mentioned in the Bob Borc Cup PM thread, this season will finish earlier than normal. A late November finish, followed by a projected start of 16th January means that we have a longer than usual holiday break! Great news for those of you who want to get away.
For the diehard SWLers, this is a long gap. Luckily, the admin team has come up with a frankly brilliant solution to this, so along with The URN and Waikikamukau, the holiday season will be host to a thrilling Spectacle. Details to come shortly!
  • THE FUTURE: Next year, the BBC will be held mid-year. This means that seasons 67 and 68 will play as usual, followed by the Cup, followed by seasons 69 and 70. The Cup format may change slightly to give more teams more games, but will still retain the dynamic, spectator-pleasing random KO playoff.

Disclaimers:

  • Admin are keeping an eye on recent changes (particularly promotion/relegation and ToB) and will review/make changes as and when they deem necessary.
  • Admin reserve the right to change the divisional structure and drafting team's TV/TW limit whenever it is deemed to be in the best interests of the league.

The Skye Award

The Skye Award honours the good sportsmanship and fair play on which the SWL was built. It is awarded to the coach who best represents the values that make SWL such a great league to participate in.

At the conclusion of the season, upon finishing your round 7 matchup you are to submit to swladmin by PM a 3-2-1 scoring for the three coaches (not including yourself) who displayed the best sportsmanship that you played against throughout the season. The coach(s) who accumulate the most points will be rewarded with the Skye Award.

When considering sportsmanship, do not rate a player based on the team they play or the tactics they employ.
Things to consider are:

- Scheduling Communication
- Arriving on time and/or notifying you of any delays/problems/scheduling changes
- Chattiness
- Overall Positive/Happy Attitude
- Recognition of good play
- Politeness: simple things such as wishing you luck or congratulating you for scoring
- Pace of play
- Offering constructive criticism/tips when welcomed

- Unwelcome criticism of your play
- Whinging about luck
- Bending the rules/exploiting bugs
- Gloating

Notes:
- Keep all messages in private
- Votes will remain anonymous
- We are considering re-implementing a Pro Bowl at the conclusion of each season with custom rosters. In this scenario the coach from each conference with the most sportsmanship points will represent that conference in the Pro Bowl. This is still under consideration.

Hall of Fame Induction - Intoxicated Mayhem
It is with great excitement that we induct Intoxicated Mayhem into the SWL Hall of Fame. Intoxicated Mayhem are the first Orc team inducted into the SWL Hall of Fame.

They may not have a Premiership in the trophy, but boy did they come close. Intoxicated Mayhem kicked off their career at the CRP restart and played 148 games in the SWL, including 10 seasons in Prem! With an overall winning record, I-Mayhem will be remembered for their dominance of the Conference divisions with 4 titles. They threatened to break the Orc Premiership curse only to fall just short on multiple occassions. I-Mayhem tested the limits of the salary cap with the core of their roster boasting 11 players with over 80 games with 4 of them amassing over 200 SPP. This truly impressive juggernaut of consistency was certainty a force throughout their career.

The URN
Our team currently consists of: Faulcon, jevouse

So there's a bunch of places up for grabs. The points tally (according to tussock):

Condor 66
Sotek 42
Error 40
Warriors 22*
Daemon 17*
Police 12*
Asha' 19
Jeagars 17
* - In Prem This Season.

Skye Award
I have to say this is an excellent initiative and I hope that the coaches of the SWL reward those who display good sportsmanship by not only voting but by trying to raise their own standards. It's good for the league.

1. Slumbering Skink: They’re the favorites until they are not. No one has had an answer in recent seasons and its time for someone in prem to step up, but Faulcon won’t make it easy.

2. Wanja Warriors [+2]: Missed out on a title by tiebreakers. Stu has put together a consistent team that hasn’t had much player turnover – allowing him to settle in on a successful strategy.

3. Daemon Ex Tesserae [+6]: Knew they’d be back up in Prem this season with a better roster. I’m not sure if Bobs has a solid strategy for beating the two teams above but he will threaten by challenging everyone else with solid coaching. I just wish he could get a superstar!

4. Steaked [+3]: Won the BBC after a lacklustre season in Prem. Jevouse has improved quite a lot as a coach but still makes too many loose moves to put together a 7 game prem campaign. Should find conferences easy though.

5. SWL Fun Police: Can’t be moved from 5th spot. Had a great BBC only to fall at the final hurdle. Semitence is another much improved coach and the roster has made a transition for the better – he just needs to work out offense now.

6. Sacred Spawning of Sotek [-3]: Not the worst Conference season but would have been expecting better. The two centrepieces are approaching 100 games and they have the magic +AG skink but otherwise the roster is in rebuild mode.

7. Altered Perception [+15]: It turns out Grod’s solid coaching can be applied to dark elves (mostly). His fear of the bash teams though is a worry.

8. Public Service Announcement: Daudy is shaking off the rust and his roster is looking great. When he gets back into the swing of things – watch out! Should be in prem next season and looking to challenge.

9. Autumn’s Leaves [+9]: Backed up a solid Conference campaign with a good run in the Cup. He should have made the final! Still, Dlock is gaining momentum.

10. Mexican Standoff [+5]: Went pretty well in Prem. Smegish plays an all out style that puts his players in the firing line but pressures the opponent into mistakes, which is perfect for conferences. His team is still looking strong.

11. Ashamaniac [-3]: If redmaul can coach like he did on his last game of the BBC he will shoot much higher in this list, especially on the back of that roster.

12. Eu De Toilet [-2]: Just struggling to gain some real momentum. They are toiling away and winning enough to finish just outside Prem contention.

13. Large Head-On Colliders: They’re Back! They will need a few more dorf skills to get going fully but theres still enough starpower to trouble the conferences.

14. Macabre Morticians [+7]: Some teams won’t know how to deal with tribal’s roster. I love what he’s doing here and invite anyone to pile on. Unfortunately he will probably struggle with elves and will need to be more prepared to take the other rocks teams head on.

15. Striking Thunder Beards [-4]: Probably a bit harsh to be listed here after entering Prem so underdone. I think they will surprise a few people again this season and will be in contention for another trip to the big time.

16. Freezy Trees [+1]: There’s no doubt ramchop is improving but this roster looks like it will struggle with the make up of prem. I still have some doubts over consistency and think that the real position of this team will be clearer next season.

17. Wanga Wanga Whalekillers: They’re back! Balle2000 looks reinvigorated and hungry so watch out! The team needs a few more solid pieces to get going though.

18. Griffon Gate Sentinels [+5]: A great conference campaign sees these guys competing for Prem. Still it feels like they follow up a good season with a bad one (or two). Maybe Iolas is enough, but the coaches up here will know how to handle him.

19. Compare the Meerkat: Solid showing in BBC and the roster is looking pretty decent – still Tomay is an unknown quantity with a fast team.

20. Port Macquarie Snow Leapords [+4]: Yatesy is perhaps the most improved coach in SWL, but within the league he is yet to really show it. Wood Elves are a tough ask in this league and when he works out a league strategy he will start heading up this list.

21. Dallas Drowboys: Unparked and looking good. Fynmore might be rusty but will probably be challenging for a conference title anyway.

22. Madness Mountain Misery [-6]: The initial run is over and Dustbunny needs to work hard to get back to winning.

23. Urban Nightmare [-9]: This team would be very well built for blackbox. SWL isn’t blackbox and when Wex realises this he will go much higher on this list.

24. New World Winers and Diners [+2]: The roster is starting to build and m0g is showing some form but its always going to be a tough task for Vamps.

25. Chaos All Sorts: Consistently Ok Very Happy

26. Blackwater Glee Club [-7]: Turns out one dimensional isn’t enough in SWL over 7 rounds. Thank goodness! Chavo needs to explore some other areas – the potential is there.

27. Wildcard Nats: Patdragon has been playing well and it’s great to have another patty in SWL. His team is undercooked but inducements might help him anyway.

28. Psych Lab [+1]: Will cause some upsets and the team is looking mostly good but its been a while since eganra put together a run of results.

29. Office Rats [+2]: Coping well against the bash teams and has a few stars but needs to put it together against other elves and build a bit more.

30. High Elvis [-2]: Sorry for the curse last season!

31. Banner of the Black Stag [+3]: Starting to become a factor, it feels like a make or break season.

32. Henson’s Henchmen: They’re unparked! Poods was going well with them before his break – lets see what happens.

33. SW Scavengers [+5]: They were in the race there… for a second. Impressive for Underworld.

34. Colour of Money [+1]: Having fun and surviving on the back of PJJs coaching ability.

35. Hostile Kiddies [+2]: A much better season from Suttbutt, but will need to back it up.

36. Prancing Unicrons [+4]: Keothi has been watching some games and his team is cool. I hope he is the next guy I’m calling a big improver.

37. Redgum’s Revolutionaries: Out of reggies but underdone and with Chaos Pact.

38. White Fluffy Stuff: Unparked but poley is likely to be a bit rusty.

Axing 101

Information for new coaches and refresher for you old guys.

It's the axemans job to monitor for extensions and forfeits that may occur during the season.
Normal rounds are 1 week long excepting first round which usually is 2, with deadline being 10pm Monday SWL time on the given date.
Games need to be started by this time to avoid the axemans attention.

If you find yourselves unable to make a time by the Monday 10pm deadline it is possible to request an extension till 10pm the Wednesday following (2days more).
If this happens add swladmin to your pm thread preferably with an agreed upon time/day to play.

In the event of likely needing an extension contact your next round opponent early to arrange a date for that game rather than waiting till the last minute.

Forfeits can/will be awarded where no game is played. Expect to be given a loss if you miss an agreed play time. Double forfeits will be awarded if no communication is received by me at deadline, it is not my job to chase you up.

Decisions are made on a case by case basis.

End of the lesson.

Have fun people and enjoy your season

Axeman (Bobs)

My Fellow Coaches Smile

Just a request re PMs for scheduling. Important enough to refresh methinks Smile

Please do not just write: "When you free?"

Please provide: Days and Times that you are normally available and inquire if the opponent finds any of these suitable?

As the opponent: Please advise either Yes this time suits... or advise those times are tough and make a counter proposal with Days and Times.

Hopefully this will greatly assist everyone to schedule games early and avoid unnecessary forfeits.

Cheers Smile

Team Challenge -Season LXVI

The draw is up. Sadly not quite a full draw. HAND need to work on their popularity. That's three coaches who have snubbed them now Razz

VILLAINS once was an exclusive club. Now they're the biggest Faction in Wastepac. After their whitewash last season, can they be the first to take back to back titles?

SWL Legends Season LXVI

Season LXV kicked off with a measly 5 legends. However, 3 were inducted during the season, and 2 more wandered in during Bob Borc Cup I. Season XVI sees the return of some legend teams, so that even with Huge and Viola sitting out this season, we're starting it with a healthy 12 Legendary players to look up to:

Image Francois Englert (Large Head-on Colliders), 504SPP
Image [Retired] Night Patrol (Public Service Announcement), 304SPP
Image Shntsyeooa (Slumbering Skink), 248SPP
Image Chuhui (Sacred Spawning of Sotek), 237SPP
Image sneutrino (Large Head-on Colliders), 229SPP
Image Grumnir (Banner of the Black Stag), 224SPP
Image Bolwgan Softrock [RIP] (Port Macquarie Snowleopards), 210SPP
Image Fish Oil Nilsson (Wonga Wonga Whalekillers), 194SPP
Image Gangrenous Gabriel (SWL Fun Police), 190SPP
Image Damien "Shake it off" Halford (Blackwater Glee Club), 184SPP
Image Llstrr (Slumbering Skink), 184SPP
Image Iolas (Griffon Gate Sentinels), 177SPP

New in LXVI
Image Strdthm (Slumbering Skink), 176SPP (Round 2)
Image Dan "Asereje" Rollins (Blackwater Glee Club), 183SPP (Round 6)

12/10 Update: Tragedy. Everyone's favorite Strength 1 Legend is no more. Cut down by a Morticians' boot. Bolwgan Softrock (RIP) 216 spp

15/10 Update: With 2 Cas in the Round 2 game against the Sentinels, Strdthm makes Legend. Three Legends in Slumbering Skink. Now that's just greedy.

18/10 Update: It took nearly 3 weeks for what had been widely speculated to be confirmed. SWL's all time 4th highest spp legend, PSA's Night Patrol has been retired. The serious concussion dished out by White Fluffy Stuff ghoul laviini proved too much for coach Daudy. Bye bye Night Patrol - the first Blood Bowl Legend I ever faced.

10/11 Update: Another Glee Club Legend. Not a stat freak, Dan "Asereje" Rollins, is just your typical nasty Chaos Warrior - with jump up.

1. Daemon Ex Tesserae
Bobs has a beefy elven side, that sort of TV could give the elves what need to claim one, as it's been a while. Previous sides have gotten close, but they have usually had structural issues and been carrying injuries. With no dwarves or cheese dwarves to be found, this season should go to an elf, it will be a question of which one, and I like the Daemons.

2. SWL Fun Police
Semitence has a habit of coming second, but the evolution of his side is really helping. Whether they win or not, they have a huge influence on prem, the opponents he dices struggle to come back. His TV keeps climbing, he has some cash. My prediction is that he will not be relegated for many seasons. But can he go all the way? I'm saying 'no'.

3. Wäŋa Warriors
Traditionally has played well versus elves, so has no excuses come this Prem. And yet, lacking on diving tackle will hurt, with the growth of the TV it could well see their strength become their weakness, and their weakness become their strength. The last three seasons have seen a prem title, a conference title, and a loss on prem in tiebreak, so no one can doubt their form. They will be in the mix alright.

4. Slumbering Skink
This seems disrespectful, after all I wrote off Faulcs last time, and he won his third. Round 1 will clear things up, if he wins that and gets through unscathed I would certainly rank him #1. But he is coming up off a beating against the Fun Police, and round 1... yup its the Fun Police. Still, he may well choose to fire his krox and start with a full line up, and can probably afford a star... do not write off.

5. Autumn's leaves
Some nice stats and a pretty wardancer, I would feel more confident if that wardancer didn't have frenzy... what the? With 2xag5 I can't see this side doing poorly, but I think the TV is too low to win it. I like the woodies chances in Prem this season, they will outrun everything. A side that is really hard to place, I could see a title, I could also see a spoon.

6. Griffon Gate Sentinels
Everything rests on Iolas, and she's not there for the first game. Otherwise not enough stats boosts to really get there. But I will reiterate that I think the prem champ will be an elvish side. cdwat doesn't let too many chances get past, so if his av holds out, anything's possible.

7. Altered Perception
Generally speaking you win at elves by having some leaping ag5. Grod hasn't got any, but does have some strength. Which could really suit dark elves. I'm sorry but I see this side being too weak for warriors/police/skinks, and not being able to cripple the other elves enough. Grod is one of the better coaches, so don't count him out.

8. Freezy Trees

As a North Melbourne Kangaroos fan, I appreciate the concept of holding onto players that are past their prime, because anything can happen and you might as well go for it. But their comes a time when you need to rebuild. Clark should have been fired a while ago. I once thought Lorax should have too, but ramchop's gameplay has changed my mind. A bit. In any event, he has the best defense for the fun police (an even list, av7, and DP) and ramchop continuously surprises me, so who knows what might happen? I will watch his season with anticipation. And probably get rolled, as generally happens with those I place 8th Evil or Very Mad

Reserved for the sake of reserving.

Also just to let everyone know because I am living in Canberra and working in Sydney at the moment my flexibility to play some weeknights this season will be greatly reduced. I ask that you have a bit of compassion and work with me to find a suitable time to play any scheduled games this season as I don't want to be up late playing a game the night before I wake up early for a 3 hour drive to work nor up late after a 3 hour drive home.

Do what d_arquebus suggests in your messages to schedule and also try to start your communication for the next round a week early as it really does help.

Peace out SWL
