This forum thread is for anything relating to the 2016/17 SWL Off-season.

Links:

HouseKeeping:
  • Dates and timing
This SWL Off-season will run from the 28th November 2016 through to the 15th January 2017.

During this time, along with the traditional celebratory silliness, coaches will have the opportunity to take part in and spectate the following tournaments and events:

    - Silly Season Spectacle: Begins 5th December and runs for 6 weeks.
    - Waikikamukau: Begins on or about Boxing Day (26th December). TBC
    - The URN: Begins on or about Christmas day. Schedule TBA.
    - SWL Season 67 Draft: Announced shortly after the New Year. Draft lists should be submitted before 31/12/16.
    - Trial of Blood: Begins directly after the announcement of the draft, and runs up until Season 67 Kickoff. (16/01/17)
    - Commish's Birthday: 2nd January. Congratulations, Gifts, Bribes and Favours to be sent to Southern Wastes, c/o Bob Borc.

  • General
Please be aware that we rely on individual coaches to be active in checking this forum, arranging games against opponents (especially if not on east coast of Australia) and in communicating with Admins. The responsibility is on the coach to enquire, not the Admins to inform. Please feel free to ask any questions, anytime.

  • Trial of Blood
Please be aware that the Trial of Blood is not a chance for teams to grow at the expense of competitive play. Play to win and keep the integrity of the SWL intact. If admins deem that a coach is not abiding by this then the team may have to retrial.

Rules Changes:
  • With the re-release of Blood Bowl on the 25 of November, there is much to discuss regarding implementation of new/amended rules in FUMBBL and of course SWL. There will be a separate announcement regarding any changes well in advance of the commencement of Season 67.
Until then, please keep any rules discussion/speculation to a sensible level. Be excellent to each other!

Silly Season Spectacle
This year, to accommodate the extended Off-season, we're excited to announce the inaugural Silly Season Spectacle.

The Silly Season...

It's the time of year in the Southern Wastes where it seems every town has some sort of carnival, festival, fair or jamboree. Alongside the usual music, dancing, arting and crafting, magic and artifice, there is food, drink and...the Spectacle.
While it varies from place to place, and each region has its own particular game (usually to ensure that the home team gets at least one trophy) the Spectacle involves teams playing a series of games against each other to determine who is The Best. Making use of the local Bloodbowl Pitch, they gather together to play the Traditional Games.
The names of the Games themselves hold special significance, a certain weight and authority. Bullrush. Dodgeball. Leapfrog. Ancient in origin, noone knows the true nature of the Games. They are played now in a subtly ritual fashion - right up until someone gets poked in the eye with a chainsaw...

...and then the Fun really begins.

The Spectacle makes use of the new custom rosters to offer a very different sporting experience. Gameplay will be very different to traditional Blood Bowl (some don't even use a ball!), and offer a very different strategic challenge.

For this Spectacle, we are hoping to offer three Traditional Games:
  • Bullrush
One of the oldest Traditional games, Bullrush features the very smartest of Trolls and the most daring/stupid of Goblins. Trolls hurl their Goblin team-mates through the air in an effort to have them reach the opposing endzone - at least, this is the general idea. It is entirely common and even encouraged for Trolls to attempt to use their goblinoid missiles to take out their opposing counterparts - whether for an ancient insult, petty revenge, gameplay strategy or just for a laugh...
  • Dodgeball
This Traditional game draws in young Elves, Humans and half-breeds of all stripes and creeds from near and far. Using specially prepared balls and explosive devices provided by local Dwarven engineers, two teams face off with the aim of eliminating their opponents. This can happen through the timely and often spectacular interception, or by the 'strategic' placement of one of the aforementioned explosives...
  • Hot Potato*
A comparatively new Traditional game, Hot Potato is a favourite among the younger players. Two teams are arranged on the line of scrimmage; one team is given a ball, and tasked with delivering that ball from one end of the line to the other. Once this has been done, the ball is given to the opposing team, and they start the process again. The game is won by the team who can achieve the highest number of passes in a given time frame.
The application of a spiked ball, and the propensity of the youths to use all manner of underhanded tricks means that players often lose life and limb along with their pride...

Scheduling
The Spectacle is due to kick-off on Monday 5th December.
Each round will involve ONE Traditional Game, and run for TWO weeks. Teams will take part in an Open Round Robin tournament, and given the two weeks to play as many games as they can/desire.
At the end of each round, Teams will hire new players for the next round, and another ORR will take place.

Scoring
While teams can play as many games as they wish, only ONE game will count per round for the purposes of scoring.
The team with the highest combined score after all three rounds is declared the 2016/17 Silly Season Spectacle Grand Champion.
Each Traditional Game will also have its own champion.

Taking Part
Taking part in the Spectacle is simple; visit the group page and create a team.
For initial team creation, use the Bullrush part of the roster.
Then, apply the team to the teams tab on the group page.
From there, your team will be entered into an Open Round Robin, and you will have the chance to play as many games as you like during the two-week time frame.
Feel free to announce your teams entrance in the forum below!

*Please note that Leapfrog has been cancelled for this season, to be replaced with Hot Potato. While the reason for this is not clear at this time, speculation centres on the inauguration of a new, slightly unhinged Mage Priest; uncommonly dry weather patterns brought about by excessive Fireball use; and the 'discovery' of a new, suspiciously frog-leg shaped delicacy in the eating establishments of the Southern Moot having decimated local Slann populations.

Good to see the level of interest so far! I know some who have expressed interest haven't applied at team to the group yet but there is definitely still time!
