Hej,

how do the rules work for that?

Had that case in a game with my [R] Halflings recently. Failed take root trying to dodge with a Tree with Break Tackle - after not re-rolling the take root the tree still tried to dodge and then failed and fell over.

Happened twice - first time I thought it might have been the tentacle roll in between that might have overruled it - but then the same happened again later on.

Relevant match.

Turn 3/2 Second half (with Tentacle Roll in there). Sequence: Fails Take Root, Succeeds escaping tentacles, then fails Break Tackle Roll, falls over.

Turn 5/4 Second half
Sequence: Fails Take Root, then fails Dodge with Break Tackle, Re-Rolled, Break Tackle succeeds and Tree can move.

Hello!
You declare the Dodge Action (it could be another of the possible Actions, though), then, immediately before trying to actually perform it, you have to roll for the Take Root test.
As soon as he fails the Take Root test (and as long as he is Rooted) the Treeman has MA 0, can't GFI, be pushed back, use any skill that would allow him to move out of his current square, be Placed Prone.
Therefore he can't even try to dodge because Take Root failure overrides and prevents the Action.

1) Turn 3/2 Second half (with Tentacle Roll in there). Sequence: Fails Take Root, Succeeds escaping tentacles, then fails Break Tackle Roll, falls over.

2) Turn 5/4 Second half
Sequence: Fails Take Root, then fails Dodge with Break Tackle, Re-Rolled, Break Tackle succeeds and Tree can move.

ANSWERS:
1) No Tentacles escape was possible (because the Rooted Treeman could not Dodge/Leap, and you have to Dodge/Leap to escape from Tentacles);

2) No Dodge was possible after Taking Root, therefore he could not use Break Tackle;

In both cases the Treeman would have just stopped and stood in his square.
