The Deserted Isles Blood Bowl Leeg is a weekly league for New Zealand based coaches. Coaches from elsewhere able to commit to NZ prime time (7pm - 9pm nzt) are also welcome.

Season 18 has just kicked off. One week into what will be another great season, wizards and all.

Three divisions of 7 teams each. Weekly full round robin. Top 2 of each pool will progress to fight for the main prize - The Placeholder - in the "Tickling Playoffs". Next best 8 teams play in a straight knockout for the "Participation Plate" (for it's the taking part that counts). And the last 7 play for the "Wobbly Boot"

PM your opponents to organise your games. And post in this forum as much fluff as you like.

Season 18 Season opener At the Mercy of Chaos

At the Mercy of Chaos arrive for their first match of season 18 pumped up and ready to finally seize their first deserted Isles Silverware!

The Murgatroid conference is a strange vista and the landscape for the At the Mercy squad and this has been particularity confusing for the front line big guys including Pus.

Deep in the jungle the first opponents the priest welcome them in a strange ritual. Apparently this is all about the opening of the league but hard for the boys to understand. Rumours quickly spread among the traveling fans that the priest would close the ceremony by sacrificing Dr Wow, much to there delight rumour has it they are digging up Montador's corpse as it is more of a prospect than the current Milka cow.

The day was too much for Leopold and seeing the Elfs line up left him hiding in the KO'd box for the match. The elfs were quick to dot down and then Albino Chipolata looked to take control of the match and held on to the ball well unfortunately he ran out of running options and the half ran out 1-0.

The Heavy hitters finally did something and Dr Wow's first CAS came early in the Second half the crowd went wild and so did he "Milk for the Milka Cow they screamed".

It was Snake Safety Bliskin who took the Plaudits though with a final minute burst off the line with the ball skipping past multiple elf's to launch a pinpoint accurate long bomb but Matty Danza fluffed his chance for glory.

The Elfs plucked the ball up and waltzed in.

This game saw long time favourite Zipa de Doh da laid to rest. Proud product of Henley.

There is a glimmer of a promise. Sinche Choque Huaccha reportdly now calling himself dancing with Minotaur's.

The Lich Division
Named after the 3rd Legend of DIBBL originals Transfusion Time. This division contains neither the Shield holders nor the Cup champs. Anything worthy of our time in here?

Image Dirty Rotten Filthy Scum (mushoomy)
TV 2160k. While Nurgle are struggling across the ditch in SWL, here on the Isles they are freely allowed to grow and grow. And when Nurgle get big, they get nasty! Beaten finalists last season, S18 is the one where they'll go all the way.
Player to watch: +MA +St Dodge, somebody needs to kill Queens before he gets block and becomes a bit more of a handful
Prediction: 1st in pool, Champion

ImageAshenhall Owls (JPM)
TW 2580k. The Owls are back and they're HUGE! Biggest team in the league, with a raft of skills (and injuries). Though the Owls have a bit of a sketchy record in DIBBL they should cruise into the Cup playoffs.... if they get through the bash teams intact (and that's a big "if")
Player to watch: The most agile player DIBBL has ever seen Flint Burrows will squirm his way through the tightest gaps. Fling armour never breaks.
Prediction: 2nd in pool, exit first round of playoffs

ImageBack Alley Burglars (DustBunny)
TV 2230k. OGRES! Season 17 was their time to shine, smashing their way into the Cup playoffs. Sadly the coach was unable to make the big event and Chop and co went home early. Season 18 will see them do well, but not quite enough to make the top tier
Player to watch: The Burglars boast 3 Legends. But Chop towers above all, Ag3 M7 TD rushing machine. 397spp!
Prediction: 3rd

ImageJank, Jank, Splat! (blackcaps)
TW 1910k. As predicted they finished S17 smaller than they started it. However, they're still a pretty big unit for Wood Elves and will battle well near the top of the table. A lame leaping hitter is not ideal though.
Player to watch: Team top scorer, Don't hurt me escaped getting hurt last season, and will again be the one doing all the fancy plays.
Prediction: 4th

Image Da Sexy Buggerz (Felix17)
TW 1860k. Block, Guard Borc; Block, Guard Borc; etc... what a boring build! It'd be a horrendously effective unit if they had a ball sacker among them. No tackle, no wrestle, no top tier finish.
Player to watch: Thankfully one S4 player hasn't taken the Block, Guard route, blodging Zak Efrork will be hard to take the ball from.
Prediction: 5th

ImageArgonian Maids (Nebula753)
TW 1840k. What a grand collection of smashed up sauruseses! They've got the skills though and will certainly worry a few of the bigger teams in the division.
Player to watch: Bark may be worse than its bite, but that's one scary bark! Kandy
Prediction: 6th in pool

ImageMystery Raptors (pdarbs)
TW 1190k. Babies! So tiny and cute. However, they're sure to bring some of Blood Bowls best stars to the party and will score a few upsets.
Player to watch: While the ring-in stars will take command most of your attention, speedy Aimar Daceran will have a few jaw-dropping moments!

Murgatroid Division
Named after DIBBL's second biggest Ogre star, this giant was fourth player to hit legend in the Leeg.

Image Karaz-a-Karak Krakens (bojoaph)
TW 2160. Reigning champ, Bojo's dorfs will battle hard for back to back titles. And the Krakens have the team to do it. However, expect a monumental Nuffling in their semifinal to lead to an angry exit from Season 18.
Player to watch: Die Die DIE! Orin Onyxheart
Prediction: 1st in pool, beaten semifinalist

ImagePink 'n Scabby (Sharper)
TW 2020k. The Scabby ones struggled a bit in DIBBL early on, but that's to be expected from a Lizard team that wasn't big enough. Now they're big enough.
Player to watch: Nothing beats an Ag4 skink. Eztletalpalli II will be one of the biggest pests in the league.
Prediction: 2nd in pool, Runner-up

Image Otago Spirit (tussock)
TW 2560k. One of the two biggest bloatiest teams in DIBBL. These girls will get hit very hard by Star players, and Wizards. While they may crush some of the smaller teams with their sheer buxom bulk, they'll slim down as the season progresses. Not by choice though, there'll be tears in the coach's box.
Player to watch: Speedy Hollie Fraser is gunning to be one of DIBBL's next legends. Unlike some of her teammates she'll survive the season closer to this goal, but won't quite reach it this time.
Prediction: 3rd in pool

ImageStyx and Warpstones (JPM)
TW 1670k. Their namesakes in the Southern Wastes have just made Prem again. The DIBBL version will have to settle for a Plate final.
Player to watch: Volos is going to have an amazing season. He will kill, he will injure, he will even score a few touchdowns. A solid pick for the Fern.
Prediction: 4th in pool

ImageColor From Outer Space (Atari)
TV 1440k. Frogs got squished the last time they played in DIBBL. These ones really have no idea what they're in for. They'll feel some serious pain, and the coach may well decide to try his 3rd season with a third race. However, they'll score two or three good wins and scrape into the Plate playoffs.
Player to watch: Blitzer Haunter of the Dark will not only leap deftly into cages and strip balls, he'll pick up those balls and dodge away. However, he will notice the angry cage isn't too far behind due his sad drop in speed.
Prediction: 5th in pool

ImagePriests of the Red Amaranth (Klazam)
TV 1520k. Klaz tries elves. With some of the tricks I seen him pull, he may be perfectly suited to becoming an elf coach. However he'll miss hurting things, and won't enjoy getting hurt. Will fly high in his first first games then crash back to reality. For once Klaz won't win the Plate.
Player to watch: Thrower Sinche Choque Huaccha will really piss off the opposition with his long passes. Eventually someone is going to tire of his antics and really target him. Expect an injury before the end of the season.
Prediction: 6th in pool

ImageAt the Mercy of Chaos Dibbl (Trickey)
TV 1590k. Coach Trickey pulled of a cunning trick last season to lift himself off the floor of the Leeg, invite an absolute noob to blood bowl to join DIBBL. Sadly, the noob is not here this season and Trickey will rediscover the foot of the table.
Player to watch: The Mercy don't score too often, but when they do it's usually Albino Chipolta a very agile rat who crosses the line.
Prediction: Spoon

SLAAN FRANCISCO 69ERS vs DESERTED ISLES BUCCANEERS
(Lambhurly Shield Challenge)

Even the beautiful weather couldn't quell the nerves of the Nurgle coach, who, after spending hours pouring over the opposition team sheet, still didn't feel ready for the shield challenge. 'Kill that one, and Pink Visual.... And probably the cow.' was about all he could muster in the way of a tactical talk. All too soon the teams were lined up on the field, the Buccaneers receiving the kick-off. The ball went deep and the big boys started hitting on the line of scrimmage. And what hits they were. The 69'ers were down three players almost immediately, with their apo desperately trying to revive the claw beast Pink Visual. Sadly he was successful.
Scything through the opposition Mash Khann looked odds on to score with only the enemy cow to beat. But then he ran the other way.
The game turned into a proper scrum with both teams trying to get the upper hand. The ball was lost, and then won by the 69'ers. 'How are you going to score now?' The opposition coach mouthed over the din of the crowd. The Nurgle coach could barely see what was happening through his tears of regret. The halftime whistle blew and it was 0-0. The Nurgle drive had failed. A quick halftime talk and the two teams took the field again, but this time the Chosen team could only field eight players. The Nurgle boys could smell blood and after a particularly accurate kick off, they blitzed the opposition back field. Evil Angel scooped up the ball, but with nowhere to go, and the three opposition Pestigors thundering down on her, it was clear she was out of options. Mash Khann sacked her, scooped up the ball and scored what would turn out to be the winning touchdown. 'The name of the game is now Bash! Bash! Then bash some more!' The coach screamed at his diseased minions. The 69'ers took the kickoff. Again the Buccaneers got themselves through the line and into the Chaos backfield, albeit more slowly than the last time. Evil Angel struggled to pick up the ball, the crowd held their breathe... But she snaffled it up on the second go and shot past the advancing Nurgle. The Buccaneers coach tried to ignore the rising panic. Just when it looked like the worm might turn, Evil Angel ran smack into the Buccaneers sweeper. The ball went loose with an ugly bounce. The big boys from both teams jostled each other around the ball. Neither team could find the advantage as the clock ticked down. After what seemed an eternity, the referee blew the whistle. The Buccaneers had taken the Shield.

A tense but fun game against a gracious opponent who had to put up with me having well more than my fair share of luck. Thanks Barberfett.

The Counties Cocksures are new DIBBLers, but have started well, making the next game not only a Shield match, but also a top of the table clash.

Will the Cocksures be able to razzle dazzle their way to the shield and bring it home to Counties Manukau? Or will the horrific stench, distracting ugliness and superior strength and killing power see a second successful shield defense for the Buccaneers, keeping it in the Wairarapa?

Tune in (Date and Time TBA) to find out.

Cull the Crude Division
Named after DIBBL's 10th Legend, a speedy frog catcher who has somehow avoided getting even a scratch.

ImageBlackwater Glee Club (Foad)
TV 2120k. Enough! Having slummed it in the Wobbly Boot play offs for two seasons in a row, it is beyond time that former SWL Legends stepped up on this side of the Tazman. They will dominate their pool, and make coaches cry.
Player to watch: An absolute monster, at least Legend Andrew "Starships" Cornell doesn't have piling on anymore - I wonder if he'll get if back
Prediction: 1st in pool, beaten semifinalist

Image Deserted Isle Buccaneers (Happy_Amateur)
TV 1640k. Not big enough yet to threaten taking the Leeg trophy, but they're getting there. If I was to predict they'd take the Shield in the first round I might be accused of peeking (but I was going to, really!). A strong season in the pool, they might even hold onto it over Christmas.
Player to watch: +Ag, +Ma, dodge, block, Mash Kharnn, that's surely against the rules.
Prediction: 2nd in pool, exit first round of playoffs

ImageSlaan Francisco 69ers (barberfett)
TW 2360k. After an early set back the 69ers will throw their weight around to score a few wins and will just miss out on the top tier playoffs.
Player to watch: Pink Visual continues to brutalise the opposition. Will have Legend in her sights by the end of the season, but coach barberfett will pull the rug out from under her and try a new team next season.
Prediction: 3rd

ImageMorgwegian (ramchop)
TV 1110k. Morg had a great season when he filled in in SWL reggies many moons ago. However, DIBBL is a step up from reggies, and his sycophants will struggle with the bigger opposition. May secure a Plate title, which might prompt the commish to finally make an icon for it.
Player to watch: There is only Morg.
Prediction: 4th

ImageCounties Cocksures (Wozzaa)
TV 1470k. Paper beats Rock, and there's a fair bit of Rock in this division. The Cocksures will get cocky after a few early wins, but will end the season in bandages.
Player to watch: Catcher Cole the Confident will do great things, on the few occasions he remains on the field.
Prediction: 5th in pool

ImageHauraki Horrors (DDAmAge112)
TW 1780k. While most eyes will be on the battles for the Shield and a top-2 place, in the Horrors is another battle taking place. Two mummies vie to become DIBBL's next Legend. Maybe they'll both get there this season.
Player to watch: Can't split them Lumbering Lake or Hulking Hauraki? Who'll be first
Prediction: 6th in pool

ImageRivendell Redekorators (LifeLongRookie)
TV 1500k. While we all welcome Manawatu to the Leeg fort he first time, sadly for new coach LifeLongRookie, the other teams in this division won't be so welcoming. These High Elves will get monstered.
Player to watch: Like a vampire, Lukitame Yaimaboord will take some work to take the ball from. But unlike a vampire he has only armour 7, and will get hurt. Hurt bad.
Prediction: Spoon

COUNTIES COCKSURES VS DESERTED ISLE BUCCANEERS (Monday 21st October, 8.15pm)

An unfortunate odour crept across the field as the Buccaneers arrived for their final team training the night before their second Shield defense. Fans who would normally be clamouring for autographs from their favourite Blood Ball stars recoiled in horror, averting their eyes and desperately covering their noses with whatever was handy. The Head Coach of the Buccaneers was bustled by his assistants through the crowd and into the waiting press conference. The Press Officer quickly seated the coaching team and turned to the waiting journalists.
"First question. You?"
"Thank you. Good evening coach. So... three Shield games in a week? Is that hard on the team? Do you have any complaints about scheduling?"
The coach cleared his throat, swallowing something bitter. Spending time with the Nurgle team had left him feeling just a bit worse for wear. " No. No problems with the scheduling. I mean, everyone's excited about holding the Shield. There's a spring in everyone's step at training tonight... Sure this sort of run can be hard on the legs, but the momentum it generates is fantastic. Plus we're the babies here, and we've got the candy. Everyone always wants the baby's candy.' Coach reclined in his chair with a smug smile on his face.
Brows furrowed in the press gallery, and a few confused journalists exchanged glances.
"Second question. You?"
"Thanks. Will you be employing any tactical surprises against the Cocksures tomorrow?"
Coach scratched his head. "Well... they wouldn't be surprises if I told you now... but no. I think it's pretty obviously how we'll play. My boys will do their damndest to break every single elf on the field, and those dodgy little buggers will be elf balling till they get blisters."
"Third question."
But before he could indicate a journalist, Coach interrupted.
"I think that's all we've got time for tonight, but I'm sure it'll be an enjoyable game tomorrow and we'll all be proud of the boys whether they hold the Shield at the end or not.... I mean.. it's not like we'll be losing it to Orcland."
Much to everyone's relief the press conference finished, and the coaching team made their way out to the practice.

The Cocksures have done it. A 2-1 victory over the Bucaneers to claim the Shield for Counties Manukau.

The shield comes home, but their were casualties along the way.

The game started terribly for the Cocksures, they were down 3 players seconds into the first half. Moments later they had 5 getting looked at by the team physio. Coach Wozzaa held the apothecary back, he knew worse was to come.

Half way through the first half the team were down to 5 players!

All seemed lost, but......

Cole weaved in and out of the Nurgle players, and managed to get his hands on the ball carrier. Down he went. Omar swooped in from the right flank and tried an audacious pass. And some how fired the pass to new catcher Paulo. He masterfully plucked the ball from the air, skipped around a rotter whose rotten arms couldn't grasp the slippery elf and in he went. 1=0 to the Cocksures.

The magic sponge and smelling salts worked a treat, and the Cocksures managed to get 11 players on the field with a long way to go in the first half.

After, a pinpoint kick from Coolio, deep in the backfield, the Buccaneers set about smashing the Elves. The first to go was Veteran Blitzer Argo. The Bloater smashed his collar bone, ending his career.

Soon after, Paulo, scorer of the first touch down tried to dodge away from a Bloater, but was tripped smashing his knee. He was unable to continue, and things were looking dire for the Cocksures.

Mash Kharnn, the Buccaneers star ball carrier made a break for the line. He looked to be in the clear. Omar swooped in with a fine sack ending the Buccaneers hopes of scoring in the first half.

Coach Wozzaa knew his team were suffering heavy casualties so instructed his team to come firing out of the blocks. Moments after the start of the second, the Buccaneers found themselves 2-0 down after a superb passing play from Samril to Cole.

The Buccaneers returned fire, and moments later exploited the huge gaps in the elves defense to score. 2-1, half a half for the Buccaneers to defend the shield.

Samril tried another passing play, but the sun was in his eyes and he threw it wayward. In came the Nurgle, knowing all's they needed was a tie to keep hold of the shield. This time Carlo managed to sack the ball carrier. But again Mash scooped up the pill.

A last ditch sack from Cole secured victory for the Cocksures.

The Otago Derby Spirit Vs Chaos

“On a Glorious Otepoti day At the Mercy of Chaos made the short journey from the slam circle to the remnants of the stadium. The horde were brimming with confidence having a full pitch side accompaniment, no end of Chefs, Wizards and two traveling stars.

An early blitz saw Albino Trip over and hurt himself luckily his personal apoc could patch him up.

The Women of Otago are a hardy bunch though and quickly cut through the paper defence of the chaos boys and started causing mayhem. Incensed the Milka cow on the back of a seeing Albino dispatched roared into action only to be jujitsued udder over horn by a tribal wench and hobble off the park.

The two star inducements almost made a play of their drive but it went down hill quickly. ”
