Exciting update about the future of the GrodBot (a fully playable client + AI implementation of Blood Bowl).
Originally I developed the AI interface and the
GrodBot in Java on top of Falesh's client back in the day. It still has a certain following, but I always felt it was limited by the client being stand-alone with no integration into a website or web capability, and I didn't have the time to implement it myself.
Fast forward to today: Niel Justesen for his PhD has developed a very interesting AI interface in Python and Javascript, with full web capabilities and hooks for implementing deep learning.
https://github.com/njustesen/ffai . The program works as a web-hosted server playable directly in a browser. Eventually when this matures, it will be possible to host as an online way to play vs an AI, or maybe even integrate into FUMBBL.
I have made several contributions to the codebase now, and GrodBot.py is taking shape. The GrodBot will be the first fully working example for the project but more advanced AI are intended. (On a personal note - I actually wrote the GrodBot and AI interface in my spare time while working on my unrelated PhD. I am kind of jealous that Niel gets to do it FOR his PhD. Smart lad there.)
Anyway, for anyone interested, check out the project on github, join us on the Discord channel and write your own AI. There are exciting developments being announced soon but I don't want to steal any of Niels thunder so keep tuned!
