Using the FUMBBL API with Ruby
I was bored tonight, and was debating that eternal dilemma...how many skinks does a lizardman team need? I was wondering between being 1800 with 1 reserve skink and 1950 with 3..

Since I claim to be a Ruby programmer by profession, I thought I'd throw together a quick script to find out. My Lizardman team has 50 odd games, with a fairly even spread of TV's on the games.

I'm whacking it here as a possible example for people on how to use the API in case you haven't encountered it before...not sure if anyone cares, and this is pretty much only usable by programmers or people on a mac/linux machine.

There's the code if anyone is interested. I commented it up a bit, and Ruby is fairly understandable as it is.

As for the results:

If you want me to generate these for any team of yours, or want to get the script running on your computer, drop me a comment or PM...happy to help :).

I can conclude that I really don't want to drop into the 140-160 TV bracket(this seems to be the memory of where I faced claws without skilled saurii and dwarves/orcs without enough guard/ block to stop them).

I can also conclude that my winning percentage with this team at 1800-2000 is pretty much exactly the same(given the small sample size of 50 games) as my winning percentage at 1600-1800.

Therefore, I wasted my time and *still* don't have an answer to my question.

Ah well. It was fun.

Based on personal experience:

Lizards need 2-3 skills per saurus at higher TR/TV. Especially now that you pay the same for every skill, you want skills on the sauruses rather than the skinks. You can carry a new saurus around for a bit while he skills up, but more than 2 rookies and you'll be in real trouble.

You DO need the skinks to win you games though, and they are high priority targets for removal. 2 backups is generally good, even up to about 2000 TV. However, it's skilled skinks you need to worry about, not rookies. A SS/DT skink is about as useful as a rookie and costs 66% more (100k vs 60k). Sure, it can do a little more, but certainly not 66% more. Doubles and stats (particularly +AG) make a big difference, and turn decent skinks into dangerous weapons, or reliable ball carriers. Too many normal skills is just bloat.

In your particular case, your Lustrian Lanterns are in decent shape. I might consider trimming the SS/DT skink (how many elves do you play, versus how many teams consider him a 100k chew-toy?) and the SS/-MA skink. Consider how your team would at 1770 TV without those two player. I think at that TV, 1 spare skink would work.

Agreed. I was actually debating whether to replace the +ma ss sprint one with a fresh one and sack the other 2.

I think I might do it...the team is too bloated at the moment with skinks
