Staff 1 vs. 1
Another idea to have some special fun on Saturday:
1. Create a [L]eague team (ideally with a fitting name) before Saturday.
2. On Saturday, once the team is in Post Match Sequence, retire all players.
3. Ready the team without journeymen.
4. Look for like-minded coaches with similar teams.
5. Play as many 1 vs. 1 matches with only staff members on the pitch as you like. A game should take 5-15 minutes.
(If you create a team on Saturday, you have to play/concede a game to get to "zero player state", but afterwards you can join the mayhem.)

Edit:
Note that Haflings and Goblins are two of the few teams that have a "roster" special (reduced costs of chef/bribes). Other rosters have the more obvious advantage of cheaper rerolls. Undead/Necromantic teams can raise dead staff members though... (Personally, if I killed a staff member and raised him as a zombie, I'd keep him - no matter the 1 vs. 1 "rule".)

Not only does this sound awesome, its possibly even easier to set up than you describe.
Since teams will be un-readied before Saturday, then any old league team can potentially be used!
I'd be tempted to join... reckon you could run a SMACK-style tournament in about half an hour :-D (though it would be very very dependent on what staff member you were given!)

This way would allow for the old 1 vs 1 or 4 vs 4 and so on. Are we allowed to play like that in league the other days as well?

Not sure I'll take part in it, I just wanted to throw out the idea. And I certainly won't do any administrative stuff concerning this, as my time is so limited, I shouldn't even play at all (but of course I will, preferably the Monsters).

I´m in as well. I still have two old 1 vs 1 teams, so I only have to retire one player and some rerolls probably.

No RRs. There Can Only Be One. It's a fantastic Idea. Given more time there could be a Tournament set up for it. Similar to a Major Tourney. I would join if this was set up.

Well, I suggest someone stars a forum thread on it. Could be used for finding games by those who don't use IRC as well.
A group page could be handy to see which teams are out there (and to set up a spontaneous tournament).
Personally I wouldn't set any rules, for it makes things complicated and takes the fun out of it (in case of this one-time and short event). But coaches can always negotiate how to play ahead of a match. It's nothing serious, but a celebration of site and staff - don't forget that. :-)
