Kruelty Game 199: Tie BReaKiNG
Slex and I have played twice before without a winner. In the third game it was a clear case of “I win coin toss, I win game.” Two rats left the pitch on turn 1, and by turn 3 only 5 remained. Kingston scored easily against minimal opposition, and 7 rats went into the second half against 10 humans.

With all four gutters, the skaven also made scoring look easy, and did it in 2 turns. But Kingston don’t see any horrible dice, and against so little opposition are able to grind out a safe Turn 16 score for their ninth win in this season’s Premiership sprint.

And now GAME 200 looms large. The Kruelty haven’t been at 1900+ TV in over a hundred games, and I get the very distinct feeling “..THAT SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES.” I don’t know what I would hate playing against most, a clawpomb rich roster with 6 lethal weapons, or a fully kitted out orc team dishing out sure defeat. Either way, at such a high TV, the prospects of winning the 200th game don’t “feel” great.

Maybe I should take a page out of PainState’s book and induce a wizard no matter what if the humans happen to have a speed advantage. It would likely make any mass destruction even worse, as the wizard would probablly lead to the enemy having a bribe for their dirty players, or even a chainsaw to dish death with. But it would fit nicely with the fluff, having team management pull out all of the stops in an effort to win their landmark 200th match.

I guess I’m hoping there is a fat Dark Elf team in the box with 11 or 12 players that has to kick me the ball on turn 1 of game 200. Yes, it would likely be a loss against a team with an average agility of 4.5, but I just don’t look forward to the alternative mass culling of my players. Woodie or Skaven might be squishy options as well.

“Why did you just decide to give a player named ‘Brain Problems’ the sure hands skill? With ST4 Mighty Blow and Guard, he’s a born killer, not a ball handler!”
True. The recent skill-up of my first ST4 player in ages was a bit of a poser. ST4 frenzy is a big crowd push threat and must be respected by the defense. And a ST4 tackler would be the main way to bring down the ST4 blodge ball handlers that I face at Premiership level. Ditto for strip-ball I guess. But I went the other way for a few reasons..

One, I think I’m figuring out that human defense does not rely on risky plays to get the ball. No cage breaking, leaping, etc. The 1600+ TV defense I have been having mild success with relies on basically backing the hell up, and waiting for the enemy to get bad dice, make a positioning error, or..well, just scoring and giving me the ball. If I can’t put immediate pressure on the ball after a great kick, I back off, minimize damage to me, and wait until turn 6 to make one big move at the ball. This leaves a maximum or two turns for the enemy to crush me with blocks, as opposed to getting in a punch-up on turn 2. If I stop him, great. If it don’t, hopefully he is forced to score and I get 2 turns to try and score myself. That’s just a long way of saying the ball will come to me if it’s meant to be, but I’m not devoting skills and tactics towards getting the ball that St3 Ag3 players can’t usually pull off without getting hurt. So I didn’t go tackle with the ST4 guy.

Frenzy would be awesome for opening the hole I need to run through on 2 turn scoring attempts, and therefore a great all around choice. I may kick myself soon for not choosing it. But I have seen the power of a ST4 ball handler. Blodge would be nice, and I went this way hoping it would come eventually, but nothing stops wardancers from leaping into your cage like a ST4 ball carrier with sure hands. And I need to win the rare games against the woodies, darkies, slann and skaven I do get at 1600+ TV. And protecting that ball from agility and trickery will help do that.

And one tends to protect the ball carrier more than a utility hitter. He’s a target, yes, but one surrounded by guards, and a little more difficult to bring down should he need to run for it. New mantra.. “I will be careful with my big dude.” It might have been a bad choice, we’ll see.

I feel that now that I’ve invested Borris' 51 SPP skill in sure hands and made him my dedicated ball carrier, that Nuffle will almost certainly grant another player Ag4 very soon to make somebody else the obvious choice. And Ag4 is what I really need. Thoughts? Which way would you have gone with Borris?

And who will be the Kingston Kruelty’s 200th opponent? Will they destroy me?

Well since I just witnessed it...I will answer...YES

Nice insight into the way you're playing, and like the fluff. 6 from me.
Not sure wtf the other low ratings were for... maybe past opponents ;)

Jesus christ... that right there is why i don't play in the box...

Pain.. that touchdown pass was for you buddy! No! The Ogre's Dodge, GFI, GFI, POW on the blodger was for you! The TD pass after was for me.

However effective orc steroids may be, they obviously lead to massive over-confidence. You'd think after 1800+ games he'd have seen enough crazy things on FUMBBL to at least position 1 or 2 of his 11 orks to guard the ball carrier before farming SPP with the piling on button.

But man, did that hurt. That's our 3rd game, and that's 5 humans he has sent to the grave.

Just finished watching the match, and was kinda disappointed with the systematic destruction from the Orcs.
I know it's all within the rules etc, and yes i will go play elfball with all the other sissy's, just seemed a bit excessive to me...

The turn 8 score was epic though :D i saw the 1 - 1 score before starting the replay, and throughout was waiting to see something go your way, and even at the start of your turn 8 couldn't really see it, gratz on the draw with so few players!

Thanks for the comments. I was looking through your teams to make a logo for your human team... BUT DIDN'T SEE ONE!!! But they all have very nice logos. Well done!
Posted by Ranensol on 2012-10-19 17:47:03
Lol, i take it that by not having a human team i've broken some unspoken FUMBBL/BB rule(?) :)
I can certainly make one!

Thanks re the logo's though, i like the fluff as much as the game really, which is why i'm not up for the total destruction a lot of players like.

I WISH it was a rule that everyone had to have a huamn team. But no, not even close. Humans are flat out-classed at high TV ranges, and not too many players enjoy trying to be competitive while being out-classed. But a few of the cool kids try it anyway. By competing against EACH OTHER, meaning trying to have the best record every couple of months in the Black Box's HUMAN LEAGUE PREMIERSHIP or CONFERENCE. koadah's gift to me after a cry-baby rant about how humies in the Box are doomed to failure. A fair competition in an unfair world. And boy, some coaches can really make it work.

And when I say cool kids, I mean that group of kids that thinks they are cool, despite what other people actually think. And winning with humans is cool. (in my book)

Your are welcome to join!

nice going getting to 200! sounds like you play defense very similar to my gameplan.
not sure if i would have taken sure hands on the blitzer, but a st4 runner is a very good option for humies to have. also means you will have a sure hands player on defense. if he doesnt double for his 76spp skill you can still take tackle as well.
again, gratz! go humies!

See mate? It's not that bad running high TV in the box!
Enjoy your lead in the Premiership, that's COOL! :)
Posted by The_Murker on 2012-10-20 12:56:41
Not so bad.. NOT SO BAD?? At 1900 TV I was piled-on into little red bits'n sauce by a 2000 TV orc team with five +ST stat rolls. It's BAD MAN!

But it had to happen, I suppose. 2 dead blitzers.. could have been worse. I go into game 201 with not tackle at all on the team. Zons is my guess.
Posted by Ranensol on 2012-10-20 16:06:24
Lol sounds like a challenge :)

Just took a look at the league, but really can't see me playing in the box.
If there's one outside of the box i'd give it a go though :)

An update after a month.. the sure hands ST4 blitzer was key in going 11-4-1 in the Premiership. I was probablly more agressive initially on defense that this post would indicate, and very lucky with my Black Box draws.. but without the ST4 (and eventually blodge) ball handler I would not have suceeded.
