Pound the Werewolf
I've been meeting quite a lot of great Necromantic teams in the box lately. Cool, right?!

Heck yes! They are a fun team to play against. But, a real challenge. Of all the teams you regularly get to meet in the box, I think I have most issues winning a game against necro.

How come? As most know, I play elven and human teams (I struggle with both versus the Wolf equally, but perhaps for different reasons). Is the Wolf just very well equipped against these light and fast teams? Fouling, Regen, blodge, sometimes MB/C, high speed and a large bench are all part of The Wolf's toolkit.

Is it a matter of coaching skill, perhaps only the best coaches here have a developed necro team? (starting one has proven to be a tall order).

I'd like to hear your views. How do you top class human and elven coaches pound the werewolf? Or am I not alone and do the Wolfs get to do all the pounding?

TLDR: How to beat necro with s3 teams?

...

P.S.:Things I think make them great versus my teams; 1. the werewolfs.

Maybe try to score quick, and take the ball on defense with your leaper.

If you don't have a lock-tight stall, I think you should score & play defense.

there are only 2 wolves in a necro team. lure them 4 squares away from their Mv4 support zombies and... bam!

Yep taking at least one wolf out of the game early is the best hope. A dirty player is essential. Then rely on your superior speed to the rest of his team and don't get drawn into a battle of attrition.

@Bill; hehe, yeah, truly regret that move in that game!

@Others: Taking out a wolf is great, of course. Just not that likely for elves. (Humans can do it much easier). They're hard to reach usually, and regen keeps them alive.

I dunno, necro is all st3 and ag3 guys too (ok, Golumns, but meh, they don't differentiate that much).

If the necro plays ghouls just kill the ghouls.

If the necro doesn't play ghouls, just take your shots at any AG3 player you can when you can and be sure to stick in a boot. Yeah, even with elfs. Necro are (usually) a pretty top loaded team, if you can remove their scoring threats they can't really do much beyond hope for a draw.

Other AG3 teams (and elfs) can score with anyone, Necro usually have 3-5 players who can score, and you typically don't have to worry too much about the Wights as they are slower and are usually not built with dodge/sure hands either.

kill the puppies

nercros are rubbish if you put them down

Put the doggies down, most of the rest is slow and lacking agaility. Tie up the FG's with disposable players if they're short on skills, or just get in their way if not. I actually find them one of the easier races to play against for some reason, dunno why.

like he said, 'kill the puppies' is kind of obvious and pointless advice.

Limit their AG3, and play positionally better against them since you really only have 3-5 mobile players anyway.

Foul any AG3+ that goes down though. Really you don't need extra bodies so much against necro, you need to make them play like khemri without TGs.

Wolfs are amazing, but they are still only st3 ag3 (short of stat up). Yeah, you can be scared of them if they are tackle/pomb, but even so, frenzy means they wind up in odd places sometimes. It's hard for necro to keep the wolfs safe all the time, bait them into a blitz that leaves them stranded. Otherwise, if they have ghouls just hit the ghouls over and over. If they don't have ghouls, force them into playing a slow offense, zombies and FGs are crap for a mobile cage. You can usually mark wights without much worry, if you force them into trying to escape with a lone wolf to score, you can usually get to it, and even if you can't take it down, it's AG3... you can mark it and make it take multiple dodges and or gfis to score.

It's only hard if the necro steamroll you with CAS, or you just suck at positional BB.

Just score more Touch Downs and kill all menz? :D

Honestly, taking out the wolves is key, but then there's no quick fix way to do that. You need luck.

If I can't get to the key players, I tend to just play the positional game and wait them out. Sooner or later those Wolves will make a move (if they want to steal the ball or stop you from scoring). And then Wham-o!

But every game is different of course, but the Wolves are pretty key in most games.

I saw the match Timetis. Dealing with 2 ag4 wolves is hard, that's true.

I think you lost the game when, once lost the ball, you advanced your leaper to mark a whight. Always keep a fast linebacker against fast players.

I don't think you were completely wrong trying to stall for a bit more, that's really coaching preferences.

Give them the boot as licker said. Elf linos are cheap, and pretty much useless anyway, so don't be afraid to boot. Despite removing or not, this will hopefully lead the opponent coach to be more conservative about his wolves.

OK, shutting down this thread...my wolves are matched vs the contenders in a brawl...

All planned:D

Thanks for the advice; lets see if my humans can bring it to practice!
