re: Bash in the Box, ect.
Just hoped on for the first time it what felt like a long time, and before signing lf up with whats been going on with Fumbbl, and Blood Bowl in general, by way of the forums. Nothing too crazy of note with the game as a whole, and still the same ol', same ol' as far as forum topics and talk go. Well, thats until I found myself in the Box subforum...

And there are a couple threadsthat have really gotten legs, authored by Big C nonetheless. Seems like he has also had enough of all the cpomb, mixmax cheese and looked (looks?) to engineer a way to rid the division of cheese. I read over all 50+ pages of the initial thread, and also the 2 big ones that followed it, and while I should have prolly taken notes while reading, because I think there were some very valid points from various angles. I have my own thoughts on the matter, and though this may be the proper place instead of a delayed response or even several pms.

Ill start off by posing these questions: if the the rules committee was still formed today, do you think we would still be playing with the rules we have now? Do we expect the rules to change ever again (go back to a 'Living' rule book) or is CRP what we have on Fumbbl for the rest of our days? What if GW revisted writing the rules only to give us some crazy rule set where it made the game we all love unplayable at a league level by fine for tourneys? Would we still adhere to said rules? Which race should be the most played in league form?

...............

Ive been stuck on completing this blog now for the past week and it just isnt happening the way I thought. Im sure it will articulate itself givin enough time but at this point, thenwriters block isnt going away and i could only rosterbate for so long before wanting to field a team again.

A couple talking points I dont want to forget:

- Idea of a tourney build division, maybe even with a scheduler. For those that campaign for Fumbbl at tourneys, but when new recruits get here, its a totally different game than the one thy were playing at said tournies. With the NAF stuff goin, this may be a good time.

- There are prolly plenty of people that would leave the version with good graphics, if we played a version that was properly balanced (relatively speaking of course).

- Big C is the mans. And I thank him. Remember to buy him a beer every now and then.

- I dont agree with just one house rule to fix what is surely a big problem with our game, but I say go one further and have a FLRB ruleset, where we could fix everything we see flawed with the game we al love, that I guess JJ doesnt anymore. Which seems odd, how can one not always gravitate back to this strategic game with sports and rpg elements?

I'd vote for a 1100 TV none progression Division with a Match Maker. That would be so awesome.

How about have a donation drive and use the cash to buy the rights to the game off GW and transfer them to Christer? :P
Posted by Mr_Foulscumm on 2014-10-29 10:41:24
How about we will never be able to afford them.
Posted by JimmyFantastic on 2014-10-29 10:54:13
Yeah I think a 1100 TV none progression Division with a Match Maker would be almost the only thing I would play.

Great idea. Make the box 1100 non progression 2014 :)

I love the idea of a max 1100TV non - progression division. What would be really cool would be if you could keep the same team and it recorded SPP for players - they just didn't count towards star player rolls. In this way you could still have all the team fluff and consider players stars, legends etc. based on achievement, even though they would have the skills to go with it. It would also be great if you were allowed to allocate small number of skills (with corresponding TV cost) like in table top tourneys, this would need to be done in the post match sequence in readiness for the next game. One of the beauties of the division would be that every round provided at least 2 coaches activated the scheduler could create a match as there would be no such thing as an unsuitable match up. I'd suggest the division should count toward CR and the only concern would be whether a 3rd competitive division would fragment the existing population making box matchups less likely. But overall great idea and I would be all for it.

How about just make a non-progression [L] group?
Posted by Balle2000 on 2014-10-29 15:06:59
1100TV no progression? I'd rather have a bowl of barbwire pasta with a drizzle of razorblades. I don't get why that format even exists :-/

@Bill can you do that at the moment?
Posted by MattDakka on 2014-10-29 15:26:52
1100 TV no progression, so the choice of playable team narrows even more?
No thanks.

@Matt, I was at a 32-man tournament at the weekend, 1100TV, 19 races were represented.
Posted by Garion on 2014-10-29 16:00:43
Yeah you are wrong here Matt 1100 is where CRP works best all the races are pretty competitive at that tv apart from ogres
Posted by Cavetroll on 2014-10-29 16:03:14
Good thoughts and interesting ideas. I would also enjoy the 1100 TV no progression matchmaker for the occassional quick game.

Clawpomb sucks!

Dirty player is OP!

Agility ruins games!

Orcs are evil!

Dwarves are disgusting!

Everybody play 'flings!

Power gamers wouldn't play the weak tournament races.
Who would play Chaos, Nurgle or Khemri in a no-progression format?
It's not that CRP works best at 1100, it's that the blatant flaws of CRP (Clawpomb, joke fouling etc) are not seen at this low TV.

Posted by Garion on 2014-10-29 18:31:06
I would play every race. I would only need to build one of each race apart from ogres and maybe underworld as I don't like them, and I would enjoy the challenge :)
Posted by MattDakka on 2014-10-29 18:35:54
Nice, you could play every race apart from Ogres and UW in the Box as well increasing the variety.
:)

Why stick to rules that are outdated, unbalanced and not made for our format?

The Tourney scheduler was just an idea to coincide with rules changes as those who want to play CRP still can, so we don't lose on any newcomers that are brought from the tourney scene. Because let's be real, anybody comming from the tourney scene over here to Fumbbl is in for a rude awaking as they never had to deal with what teams are like with stacked skills.

You think we might actually be losing a possibility of players by staying with this rule set? You don't think there are players that got lured to the game via Cyanide only to be put off by the glaring imbalances of CRP? How many people would leave if we went to some sort of CRP+? How many people would come back?

I know we stick to what's 'official' but is this until the end of days? Can we get a time frame regarding how long we will stick with CRP if no 'official' changes are to be made by the 'rules makers'? And don't forget one of said rulesmakers, and only one that seems active with the game has said that this rule set is unbalaced, and if givin the time we wouldn't be playing the same game that so many of us dedicate so much time to.
