More progress has been made with the Slann team. With the GT just a month and a half away it is good to be slightly ahead of schedule as I want to avoid a repeat of my first year where there was a last minute rush to get the Khemri fixed after a spray varnish disaster.

The Kroxigor is a bit of an oddity in the Slann team as he doesn’t really fit it with the rest of them. As we have slighty different types of treemen, ogres and trolls I think the Slann should have a Froxigor. The same stats but he loses tail and gains leap, maybe with a 10K reduction as he’d be a worse player. It would be worth taking just for the look on your opponents face when on rare occasions a ST5 monster leaps into their cage.
The model was made form a tyranid broodlord and needed more greenstuff work than even the linemen, half of this was fixing air bubbles from Gw’s ironically named finecast material. I also filled in the holes where his extra arms would be, chopped off some of the bony protrusions on his elbows and spine, removed the ridges in his arms and legs and filled in the gaps in his ribcage. Like the rest of the team he got the bulgy eyes from chaos spawn and his tail came from a dragon ogre. This had scales on it and so I added some more to his back and legs as they were looking a bit bare. His shoulder pads and loin cloth were from 40K orks whilst his knee pads were taken from other blood bowl models.



I continued the same colour convention with him being the darkest shade of green on the team to represent his greater strength and armour value. To avoid him looking too dark I painted the scales a very light brown to contrast his skin. His armour and loin cloth matched the colouring of the rest of the team. I made him number 1, the same as a blitzer as I have read that both the krox and blitzers tend to be less popular than other players.




Quetzal is the first star to be completed, he is made from a herald of khorne. As with the Krox since he is made of finecast quite a lot of greenstuff was needed to fix all the air bubbles, thankfully little re-sculpting aside from the ridges on his back. I removed all the obviously khornate bits like the symbols on his thigh guards and got rid of most of the chains and skulls. Most of the bumps on his skin were removed as those were more common on the blitzers. His right hand was holding a sword and this was swapped with one from an orc thrower with claws sculpted on. I also chopped off his head and replaced it with that of a genestealer with chaos spawn eyes added.
His loin cloth came from a dire avenger and his single shoulder pad from chaos marauders.



I had initially planned on using this model for Lotta, but as he was in a leaping pose it seemed more appropriate to use him as Quetzal. Since he is also AV7 he had little armour added, just the shoulder pad and loin cloth for the team colouring. He was painted the same shade of green as the catchers to fit in with them better. His few bits of clothing and armour were painted in the same uniform as well, the only difference being the skull shoulder pad.



When compared to the catchers he does look very distinct, being made from a different range and the models itself if much larger. However I don’t see that as an issue since stars should stand out.




That just leaves Lotta and the bases.
Lotta is in bits at the moment, so needs some work to get his pose right, I want him to be kneeling down similar to the skinks I did last year. Since he is a blitzer he will be getting a helmet sculpted on, probably with a more elaborate decoration to ensure he stands out. This will take a bit of time so it is a good thing I still have all of March and most of April left.

After abandoning the lily pad idea the display base will be easier to make, most of it will be islands in swampy water. The most time consuming part will be the mosaic in the centre of the island. I really liked how this turned out last year and so will be repeating making it from plasticard rather than painting it on like in previous years.
The players’ bases should be easier as well since they will just have a mixture of flock and the clear resin used to make the water.
