Who will rid me of this turbulent thesis?
Fellow Fumbbl-ers,

I thought I could find solace from work by killing pixels (or having my pixels killed, which, let's be honest, is more likely). I was wrong. What actually happened was that I decided to pick-up and play some more Blood Bowl but found that I couldn't without feeling guilty about not writing. Then, when I actually found a little free time, my brain was so frazzled that I couldn't concentrate enough to motivate myself into a game. But I needed my Fumbbl fix. So I lurked, trawled the blogs and forums, reading to sate my appetite. Speccing matches to learn and come back stronger. All the time too ashamed to act.

Maybe I should have zen-ed it, played in the moment, with no worry or care for anything but the game. Maybe I would have focussed my mind to the task at hand, achieved a work-life balance, overcome the demons that stay my hand from the keyboard and paralyse my mind on the pitch. Maybe I could have even improved my quality as a coach... As the Blood Bowl analyst turned crooner Bev Early-fight sang, 'shoulda, woulda, coulda'.

So I've procrastinated, but no longer. I cannot play. My work is due just before Christmas and that must consume me until then. But I need a light at the end of the tunnel, something to aim for to motivate me to complete my struggle with academia. I call upon you, champions of Nuffle, to motivate me for this task. Give me a reason to submit on time, to strive, to seek, to play, and not to lurk. Help me return so you can kill all my mens and maybe (just maybe), I can kill some of yours.

P.S. If I actually get this done on time, I will donate £10 to the site. C'mon, I'm a student. I'm not made of money.

Getting rid of the thesis to be able to focus on the important things (such as preparing your favorite team to partecipate in a major) should be a great motivation! Majors are a BLAST!

Yeah light at the end of the tunnel! That's what you need to do. Fortunately, I've got away without doing a thesis ever! However, I think I'd be quite good at them.

Don't donate more than you can afford. The fact you've played less than 100 games and donated before, is a lot more per game than most of us!

Take care, I just finished my own thesis few weeks back, although here we don't have quite as strict deadlines. Still, when its done it will be worth the hardships. Towards the end I limited myself to just playing majors and the one league I'm in, as well as cut off most other hobbies.

Different things work for different people, but if you are in a hurry as it seems, going cold turkey might be best. Do it today (not tomorrow) and you can log back in 2 months without feeling guilty about it.

Anyways, thats my 2 cents.

For the love/hate of Nuffle, finish the thing! You should write it, fully dedicated doing so. I was juggling my thesis with work, gaming and RSI, which is a terrible, TERRIBLE combination (you'd think someone writing something called a thesis would have enough brain capacity to prevent such disastrous behaviour, wouldn't you?). The thing dragged on and on and I knew I'd be happy when it was over but it took me much longer than strictly needed (even taking RSI into account). The feeling when it was done... it's great! GREAT! What a relief! I hardly cared about the grade anymore because the drag of not finishing it was much bigger than any worries about ruining my average grade.

So write the damn thing, love it, and feel like a king once it's done. Personal tip: keep in touch with your supervisor/teacher/whatever and plan regular meetings to check on your progress.

Keep us posted and good luck!

Thanks guys, support and advice appreciated!

Basically it's considering what the informational legacy of the Olympics is. If BB was an Olympic event it would be much more fascinating. Back to work.
