Dle7s season 4 awards winners
The season is now officially over with the playing of the last bowl game and the attention will soon turn to the exciting future of DLE7s. Many a player has already said their goodbyes to the college ranks, having graced our hallowed pitches for the last time as they now look forward to taking their shot at the DLE proper, entering through the draft system. Before we move on, it is time to honour the best among the players that played last year with the inaugural player awards.

Butkiks Award – Awarded to the most outstanding Blitzer in the College Seven aside system. Named after their unparalleled ability to kick behind and keep on scoring!

Daniel de Pisieux – Before even looking at the numbers, the sentiment in the room of those voting for the Butkiks Award was that Daniel would be there or there about. If there ever was a team that leaned heavily on one guy to succeed it was this year’s Uni d’Artois. His ability to get in behind defences or burst through tight running lanes led him to outstripping his competitors in the voting. Congratulations Daniel.

Bilenticatch Award – The most outstanding Catcher in College Sevens is awarded the Biletnicatch Award. One handed diving catches and aggressive defensive play rewarded for those pure athletes who are brave enough to wear half as much armour as anyone else

Alex Thomson – 16 touchdowns… Let that sink in, in a regular season that lasted 9 games (excl. playoffs). Leading the league and his positional group by 5 total touchdowns, Alex Thomson drove the high octane offense and no one could argue against bestowing him with this great award.

Nagitski Award - Linemen are important and this is where they get their credit! Who out there are the guys who are working hard to let your Superstars run wild? Find out below

Casey Barrone – Casey (von) Barrone is the latest of vampire-esque players to hit the DLE and he will be well prepared to follow the likes of Arnold Miyers and Todd Nathanson into the league. His ability to literally contribute in all areas of the game squeaked him this award by the slightest of margins over his competitors. Passes, touchdowns, casualties along with good volume of yardage (both in the air and on the ground) and blocks meant he was the shining unexpected star for the Hilltoppers and the linemen of the league.

Spewnitas Award – The best and most accurate Throwers in DLE7s will be honoured with the Johnny Spewnitas Golden Arm Award. Candidates identified for being the player who drags their team along, binding them as a leader and displaying keen athletic and arm talent.

Edward Hotspur Esquire – What a passer of the football. All risk and reward, Edward pushed the envelope of offensive football in 7s this year, averaging 5 yards in the air per pass. That is unbelievable for any level of Blood Bowl and for him to back this up with a pair of touchdowns and casualties, Ed comes out on top for this award by some margin.

Outland Award – Big, brutish and grumpy, the Ogres have arrived in college 7s. Their mass can give all coaches nightmares but they can also create havoc for their own team! Here’s the cream of the crop.
Edd De Vries – Of a very limited bunch of Ogres, Edd was the best. He had positive grades across the board but with the coming changes he will be strongly challenged for this award going forward!

Heizmens Trophy – And now that we have the winners of all the individual prizes announced, it’s time to tell you the overall winner of the best player of the year! This year the stand out performances from College Football finalist Alex Thomson takes home the big prize. Even though his team wasn’t able to take home the overall Championship Title, Alex was unmatched all season in his ability to get the crowds on their feet and put the Seafarers in great positions to win time and time again. Congrats Alex and congrats to coach Laskas for dragging these performances out of this young man!

Now that the awards are out of the way, it is now really the time to turn towards Season 5. This week, all the final preparations will be made and the season will hopefully be up and running by Wednesday 22nd/Thursday 23rd at the latest (before I disappear for a long weekend to Iceland)!

Hope you all enjoy the new format!

hmm, Ed might have won an award but he also managed to lose me a couple of games. Still, kinda cool to know that I take more unnecessary risks on offence than the rest of the coaches in the league. Go me!
