Hi,
did you ever wish to mute your opponent? Try this:

A simple java program that has the size of the chat panel. Move it with the left mouse button and close it with the right one.

Errrr....and what do you do if he types halfway through that he is in the middle of a police raid and will have to get back to you about finishing the game?
Personally chat section is there for important messages as well as chit chat or as inpythrr's case verbal manure :-)
