Women's Roller Derby
Hot women on skates? Sure, if you're into that kind of thing.

Some of you know that outside of FUMBBL I coach a women's roller derby team. While some people may remember roller derby from television during the 1970s, others may be more familiar with its current incarnation under the organization of the WFTDA - the Women's Flat Track Derby Association.

We're hoping to get up to 2,000 fans on Facebook sometime in the near future and I'd appreciate anyone who wants to send a little love their way. Just follow this link to like The Wicked Pissahs.

They cant be serious, right?

Something i will never get, much like american wrestling.
The wonky movement on skates even takes away the natural grace/ sexiness of womens motions. They pretty much look like a cow on ice now.

And it doenst even make me laugh.

That being said, coaching a bunch of wicked pissahs (that name gets me chuckling though) is properly the complete opposite.

Voted 6 - and i would follow if i had a facebook account. For supporting a fumbbler which must been caught between heaven and hell it seems. ^^

I don't get it. But I like it.

My housemate is pretty big in Wiltshire Roller Derby! (great name hey, but you cant get where they are from or what they do!)

Facebook is lame. Women, however, are not. Go Pissahs!
Posted by Badoek on 2014-07-21 21:04:04
I'm watching your pissahs vs nutcrackers (hehe) and I have to say... I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT IS HAPPENING AT ALL!!! omgwtfbbq etc.

Except they're using their butts a lot.. which is good I guess? :D

NICE Liquid! My wife plays Roller Derby. As well as my almost 7 year old daughter, who is on the Jr team. I go to almost all the gamest. My wife is QTπ on http://www.nworollergirls.com/

Its a very entertaining sport. I almost have all the rules down pat. Coaching it is a whole other ball game. Women to listen more than men, and are easier to teach. Though they do have little pissing matches among each other from time to time. Little less tolerant to each others behavior than men are.

And thank you, everyone. I knew I could count on the FUMBBL community to support weird hobbies.
Posted by liquidorange on 2014-07-21 21:31:54
Keggie, I know that team! I guest coach every year at the Wild West Showdown in Bremerton, Washington (just a few hours down the road from Chilliwack). I met someone last year who was talking about NWO at the tournament. Always such a small world when it comes to the tight-knit group of skaters and coaches.

Rollerball needs to be real already!

Rat City Roller Girls represent!
Posted by liquidorange on 2014-07-21 23:21:08
Hahaha... now the roller derby fans come out of the woodwork. One of my good friends, Pia Mess, used to skate for Rat City. They have one of the best venues in all of roller derby, since they get to use the old Seattle Supersonics arena. I got to see Carmen Getsome skate there a few years back and loved the atmosphere.
Posted by Luohghcra on 2014-07-22 01:28:00
I have envy for those of you who have been able to see the Rat City girls at home.
I ref for the local league, it's a fantastic sport/community/lifestyle.

@albinv - I don't even know what you're smoking but maybe you should leave the pipe and houseslippers at home. Roller derby is great, and the ability of these women to overcome this 'wonky movement' and still look fantastic is to be admired.

@liquid Give me some warning next time you are there, I'll pack up the Family and come out for the show. :)

@Luohghcra

Ah, sorry for being bewildered, being honest about it and still expressing that i see value in it and supporting it.

That certainly deserved to be insulted.

I wont even get into that, not now, and certainly not over the internet.

In the end i think you lost your calm and probably could do better than that, let's move/ skate on.
Posted by Luohghcra on 2014-07-22 04:13:05
@albinv

Ooookay, so that escalated quickly. I wasn't intending to insult you any more than you were intending to insult women who skate.
It just kinda happened, and if you have taken offense to my comment, then I apologise.

Seems I am making a habit of saying inflammatory things on the internet lately.

what I find truly sad is that someone consider that women doing sports has to be a sexy view for male enjoyment.

I don't get it.

I only watched for a short while but the blocking looked very gentle and I didn't see a ball anywhere.

How long does it take for them to get properly warmed up?
Posted by liquidorange on 2014-07-22 15:58:09
There is no ball. Scoring takes place by the jammer (skater with the star on her helmet), passing other skaters.

My sister plays, I sponsor a team, and I get to far to few pirate city roller derby games these days (The longest running roller derby league outside of North America)

zakatan:
"what I find truly sad is that someone consider that women doing sports has to be a sexy view for male enjoyment."

This certainly is major point of my bewilderement. I wouldnt go as far to call it sad though, as that part - to be a sexy view for male enjoyment - seems to be clearly a wanted part about women roller derby.
Judging from the bikini style tricots and general appearances (dress, names, attitude) the wicked pissahs and nutcrackers arent stingy with their charms and i very much doubt they do it because they are pressed by their men or coaches to do so (the opposite would be more likely in america - if at all!) - and i have no problem with that whatsoever! Seems like this is some needed form of freedom (and power) for the women involved?
The combination of sexiness+sports and mild aggressive bodily "gameplay", i guess will bewilder quite some europeans though (we have a much different culture of emancipation and gender roles in general in quite some countries - for the good or the bad!) - i find it almost fascinating from a sociology/psychology point of view, but cant deny the bewilderement.
Last not least this obvious circumstance was already given by the OP "Hot women on skates? Sure, if you're into that kind of thing". So i thought it must be allowed to pick it up and comment on it, if its part of the game.

Luohghcra:
"I wasn't intending to insult you any more than you were intending to insult women who skate."

It wasnt my intention. I felt the picture (cow on ice) had enough humor and irony (on both the sport as on my own bewilderement) it would be ok enough to pass a roller derbys defense.
It wasnt a good thing to say and post altogether, too provocative and said too spontaneously as it ended up offending people i didnt want to offend for sure - it had to i see now.

Luohghcra:
"the ability of these women to overcome this 'wonky movement' and still look fantastic is to be admired.

Now if one would find parts of the view zakatan expressed (which i can very much relate to) in roller derby fans, which is likely i assume, and reactions here maybe already slightly revealed - we would have found some double standards, interesting and always worthwile to notice. As a double standard is - among other unwanted things - simply a logical fallacy if im not mistaken.

Luohghcra:
"Seems I am making a habit of saying inflammatory things on the internet lately.
C'est la vie..."

Welcome to the club. Seems im just a tiny tad bit too critical lately, overall.
Lately it may seem like i merely want to leave negative comments - be assured this is not my ball game though.

It wasnt my intention to offend or to p_ss of respected coaches and/or any roller derby afficianados here. I regret having made the post altogether, it probably wasnt the right time and place and i have fired away to impulsively without giving it a second thought. I wouldnt do it again.

C'est la vie mon chéri...

Can only offer an apologize to any roller derby women or supporter - http://www.moncheri.de - have a german praline if you like and find yourself able to forgive human idiocy (did you know my french is much worse than my english even?)

I will also never mess with any roller derby woman (or their fans) - i swear, hands up. And partly regret i will never be able to attend a roller derby match anymore now to judge from first hand, without risking my life probably. ^^

Am very dissatisifed with my appearance here but cant change it. Hope the wicked pissahs still get up to the 2000+ followers and every fumbbler will help to do so! I think this is probably a hilariously fun and awesome thing for the fumbblers and families involved here (obviously completely failed to get that part across) - get the thumbs up if possible fumbbl!

The girls that Dress up sexy, are intending to dress up sexy. As my wife said it's an alter ego and they enjoy playing it up. They get fans out to help pay for facilities. It's an expensive sport for rink time. Anyways if it makes anyone feel bad, you can go watch the men play it. Less tight clothes and bigger hits.
Posted by koadah on 2014-07-22 21:04:36
I wanna know how many CAS Keggie's daughter scores per season. Does she pile on?
Posted by keggiemckill on 2014-07-23 00:00:13
She is the roughest and loudest of my 3 kids. Petite, but a punch first kind of girl. I honestly feel bad for whatever man she ends up Marrying in 20 years. I wont have to be the scary father in law with that little girl.

Interesting, thanks for adding to the picture keggie.

Keggie I hope some of those paints they have on their faces in that NWO team are not permanent tattoos! Scary.

No worries albinov. Its hard to understand the rules unless someone is standing with you explaining it during the game. It took me 10 games to get the rules 1/2 way understood. The Tactics are a whole other ball game. Plus they change the rules every so often. If you just watch it for the big hits, and cheering crowd it is still a great spectator sport. I advise everyone to take a game in one day. Its good fun.

@gary1, yeah they all like painting their faces up for some Halloween reason. My wife always tries to kiss me with that goop on, but I just face palm her into the ground when she does. (Keedding, Keeding, I just squirm away.)

Back in the early 90s, we used to have a really cheap sports channel called 'Screen Sport' on Satellite. It showed rollerderby, I think the heyday 70s stuff, which took a bit of a pro-wrestling 'drama' line. It was kind of interesting though, and a massive eye opener that such a thing existed.

Last year somebody directed me to ......hmmmm what was it 'London Knights' website. The London female league. It looked pretty interesting and I was informed that the 70s style 'controlled' scenarios have now gone. Shame about the flat tracks though, a bit of a banking would be cool. Not sure how they'd get on, on a '6-day track' but there aren't many of those left.

Saw the movie a year or so ago, and it was really good. It's very surprising to see how many FUMBBLers are involved in this. You guys should try to organise a tour!

@harvestmouse The London Brawling are currently the number three team in the world. They're well worth checking out if you get a chance.

A used Bank track goes for about $10 grand. It takes a lot of effort to set up and take down. It's going the way of the Dodo bird.
