So this is where he took us...
Beeing back some weeks and quite some games i feel like thinking about the Box a little.

My little fat elves just imploded last game, and apart from my still quite bad coaching this did happen for a reason i think. It could have happened some games before but got more probable every match. The growing bloat was killing me...

Mind you, when I came back here I took a quick glance at my teams and decided to change my playstyle. More fun, less gore, more ballplaying. At first I thought I might be able to use my CDwarves and bought them some bulls, but they dont seem much fun if you want to win by TDs :). So I took my Chaos and decided to just not min/max anything but let them grow as big and beautifull as possible, perhaps aquiring some ballskills along the way. And it worked quite well at first.

At least it worked much better than it had worked before, i had much wins and draws, but that might also be because chaos just performs better with higher TV. And elfskills came. Doubles and AG+ aplenty, i had my fat elfs, dodge on many guys. And thats when it stopped working. When I lost my secondary killer all went downwards. I was determined to take what nuffle gives to me, and so the last few games it was a niggled, slow Killer accompanied by fat and only slightly faster skilless elfs... Facing what is TV 1700+ BlackBoxKillers. I soon realised that wont work, and hoped for some clawpomp to decide which bloat to lose first. Which meant i lost them all in 1 game.

So, back at 1400 TV i ask myself which is the right way to go? Should i have turned down the +AG at a point? Dodge, while nice at the beginning and not wasted on an ag3 player seems to matter less and less in higher TV where Chaos ought to shine, becoming a bloat in the end i think. So what else to take on doubles if its not only jump up?^^

Perhaps i did right to take the chances, everyone of them could have become an amazing player had they lived...Someday one will^^. But winning is nice too... So, 1 Carrier 3 Clawpomp some Guard...?!?

tldr: Beeing different in the box doesnt seem to be easy^^

I guess Side Step is a pretty good alternative to Dodge. Never loses it's appeal and gets better the further a player develops. Just a quick thought.

I liked reading your reflections on the game and the box. Much better than just get bitter and/or cold over there loss. Stay passioned! And keep believing in the possibility of difference! ;-)

Yes, it's a shame. I could bring out some old clothes hangars, but I shan't this time.

Blood bowl rules favor clawpompers, there is nothing to do against that, just look at the distribution of races in Blackbox.
Blood Bowl has never been a balanced game and these rules are not an exception. Simply, it is better accept that is so.
Personally I don't like the claw and PO rules but I think also that sticking to the official rules it's the right chose.

Persolly mate, I think you have to play the game as you enjoy it, if you like smashing opponents just do it, if you prefer elfballing just do it.

Being different in the Box is not easy, but it's rewarding in terms of fun (at least for me).
Despite the VTS lossing to your chaos a few days ago, I really enjoyed the match and your elf-style play in the end that changed a sure draw or a win on my side with a win for you. So refreshing w.r.t usual matches against Chaos/Nurgle. Go ahead!

Wins will come by playing and getting better. I still remember my early days in the Box when I struggled to keep a decent record with humans, now after more than 350 games with my VTS it's getting a bit better.
Sure, it will never be some god-like W% like copy-cat min-max and/or killer clawpomber or AG4+blodge madness allow, but it's so fun! :)

Embrace diversity and enjoy it.

It's worth considering Diving Tackle on doubles too, though Dodge is still generally good, until you come up against the occasional team that has taken sufficient Tackle. You've got a Leader, and enough skills that you could consider dropping a rr. Good luck with 'em.

though diving tackle on doubles when you can take tail on normals is debatable imo.
I think your best options are either spamming dodge on every doubles you get, or skipping all doubles except a late jumpup.

For fun's sake, by all means build a cool passing beastman or some nice blodge diving tackle CW. I do. =)

For crying out loud, bloodbowl does *not* favour clawbombers the way the box uses them. They are a newbs tool, very overused.

I will say, if you want to kill, you are right, turn down doubles and most stats. Killing is an arms race, and too many doubles and too many stats means you lose that race.

That said..if you want to win, take them! There is of course a point where you have 'too many' doubles, and that point should be decided by the coach. Usually, I find more than one stat/double for every 2 normals on the team is a problem...for a ludicrous example, if you rolled a double on every player and took it first skill, you'd probably end up with 10 dodges and a leader or something, but the opposing team would have twice as many skills as you!

The thing to remember is that if you are playing a double heavy build, choose your skills to complement that. Don't just go down the same skill path with a few doubles tossed in. For example - Blodging beasts love 2 Heads and Tackle. Sure, they might not be the ultimate killer any more, but they have elf dodging with a st 4 blitz. Pretty painful! Blodging Chaos Warriors go nicely with some stand firm/guard, as does using the double for diving tackle instead, as DT/PT combined is hilarious for dodging.

I find that +AG on chaos warriors rarely cut it, maybe because it takes them out of the scrum. On beastmen it's very nice though.

Btw, the nurgle team that smashed you wasn't really more killy than your own team, his dice just did more damage than yours.

The beauty of the box is that your team is in constant development (if your attrition rate is anything like mine). Elf balling chaos are a pleasure to come across, even if you did smash my SoB twice dealing out 5 cas each game. Build a team you would enjoy playing against.

If you want ballplaying, why not try an Agility team in the Box? How about some Skaven?
