<b>CBBS Week 6 Review</b>

Welcome folks, to the next edition of the CBBS Review!!! We've just finished week 6 of the NCBB season, and we are well into round 7 already. It's getting to be that time of year: massive debates about bowl season, award recipients, and why navy stinks so badly :P

With six bowl games, let's take a look at the rankings as of the press release:

3a. Oregon Waterfoul (4-2-0) 12 BCS Points

6. Tennessee Volunteers (4-0-2) 10 BCS Points

If the season ended today, these dozen teams would likely all receive bowl invitations, according to the BCS Points. But we know that voters are very fickle, so perhaps we could have a snub or two. Regardless, teams like Navy (5 points,) Stahnferd (3,) NLH (4,) and Mizzou (4,) all need to finish strong in order to possibly make a bowl. Three of the aforementioned teams did last season, so they are likely disappointed with their seasons so far.

Right now there are six teams with at least four wins, with Pain State being a clear-cut #1 at 6-0-0. They already crushed the team with the 2nd-most BCS Points, UCon (5-1-1,) by a score of 3-0 way back in week 3. This leaves us with several four-win teams. Oregon and Michigan are both 4-2-0, and they tied 1-1 in week 5. It'd be difficult to make a case for one over the other with this result, but Michigan might have to replay the forfeit-tie with DD Tech. The result of this game could easily bring them back down to earth, or perhaps it could propel them to greater feats in a few weeks. But you can't leave out Tennessee (4-0-2) or Kalmar (4-1-1,) both of whom have solid resumes themselves. However, Tennessee didn't do well against good competition, losing to both Pain (1-0,) and UCon (2-0.) Kalmar, meanwhile, has had mixed success against pretty average competition (L 1-0 to Vandy, T 2-2 to Buffalo, W 2-0 vs BYU.)

Thus right now the title game picture is fairly unclear outside of Pain State. Could we see a rematch vs UCon? Will we see a return of Oregon, the defending national champs, who still have yet to lose in the NCBB? Perhaps Michigan will surprise everyone and be the dark horse contender. Or will a team currently with 3 wins go on a run in these last few weeks surprise us all and go on a hot streak?

<u>Upcoming Big Games</u>

While we can’t predict the future with replacement games or round 8 matchups, we do have a few big games that need to be played in round 7:

Michigan (4-2-0) vs. NLH (2-2-2) - major bowl implications here, as Michigan will try to stay unbeaten and get to a BCS bowl, while NLH desperately needs a win to get back into the bowl picture. Michigan managed to slip away from Cal’s grasp in the final minutes in round 1, so how will they fare against the other lizards?

Oregon (4-2-0) vs. Cal (3-2-1) - a huge matchup between two very determined teams. Last season Cal challenged the Waterfoul to a round 8 matchup, where Bill dominated the game and locked up both the Banger-Hardell award and a trip to the title game (which they won.) Cal hasn’t had much success vs. elves this season (L vs. Mich, T vs. DD Tech,) but both teams are healthy and ready to prove they belong in a BCS bowl.

Tennessee (4-0-2) vs. Rutgers (3-1-2) - this is a critical game for both teams, as a win could propel either into a solid bowl, while a loss will leave them at the bottom of the pecking order. Rutgers lost 2-1 to the other orc team, Pain State, way back in week 1. But the Vols are on their green heels after losing 1-0 to Pain, and then getting blasted 2-0 by Ucon. How they prepare mentally will be just as important as anything.
