Okay, so this was my first Ranked game in a while - it being the summer I've been on holiday - and I was feeling a bit unsure of myself having spent the past two weeks only playing L against my sons (one of whom is kind of unenthusiastic and kind of rubbish, and the other one who really likes forcing me to play against six rat ogres most of the time).

So anyway, when I got a game against Kaltenland - currently ranked at 119 - I wasn't expecting to do much except get myself back into the swing of things with a few passes and maybe a lucky touchdown or two...

Well, the game was not what I expected.

Right from the start, poor old kaltenland was having no luck. My first block killed his assassin, and then his first attempt to dodge resulted in a double one and a loose ball, which I gratefully collected and used to score my first TD.

Second time around, the dark elves were equally unlucky as their attempt to blitz in order to run the ball down for a hand off resulted in a double skull and another loose ball, which I gratefully collected and used to score my second TD.

That was it for the half. In the second, I threw a long pass for stats and then a long bomb for the TD as usual, and then the dark elves finally started getting some reasonable dice, allowing them to pull back a score. But really all this did was allow me to throw some more passes for yet another score.

A late score on the dark elves' final turn made the result slightly more presentable, but really the game was lost in the first half. At two scores down, two players down and no luck in breaking that flimsy wood elf armour, there was really nothing Kaltenland could do to rescue the game. Well, I suppose he could have caged the ball and fouled me to death - that might have eased the pain perhaps - but I really don't think Kaltenland is that sort of player. Instead, he very calmly played his way through some terrible dice and a flawlessly lucky opponent without complaint - and it was much appreciated.

It was a lovely passing game (6 for 51 for Briskbreeze) and even Thursdaynight squeezed in a late cas to make his game not completely pointless. And I bought a third catcher afterwards, bringing the team up to eleven proper players for the first time in ages.

Also, I rolled a double for one of the skilling-up linemen. Rather than go for the somewhat predictable guard (or possibly mighty blow) I thought I'd give stand firm a go. I can stand him next to the tree on the front line and see how that works out.

But now it's late - so late it's almost early, in fact - and I have stuff to do tomorrow (later today) so for now I'd better say night night.

Night night.
