#14 Nottoohot Nottoocold – Smashed Hand (MNG)
This game was so fast I didn't actually make it to the field until about turn 3 - or that's what it felt like, anyway. By then the high elves had injured a useful lineman, knocked over and fouled the tree, and got the ball into a comfortably safe position from which it was going to be nearly impossible to knock it free.

I tried. After all, I do have two wardancers and one of them has strip ball, and the high elves even made it relatively easy for me by failing an easy catch, but then I failed an easy pick-up (twice) and after that it was just a case of seeing whether or not the high elves could hold on to the ball until their turn 8 - which they did.

Along the way, they BH my thrower, so I was left without much of a passing game even before getting my hands on the ball. I did try to make the best of things after that, but seeing as how I am primarily a thrower of the football, it does kind of make the game a little bit pointless for me when I don't get to long bomb it.

And just to prove how pathetic my game was turning out to be, the catcher who was standing in for the thrower managed to throw an interception on his first attempt.

In the second half things carried on along the same lines, with my next attempt at a pass being dropped (twice) by a catcher who really ought to have done better. Still, as luck would have it I managed to pick it up and run it in on the following turn.

In return, the high elves got in their own quick score on their following drive. I was surprised they didn't stall as they had in the first half, but I suppose they were running a little low on players, and my wardancer had got in there and stripped the ball away from the catcher just outside the endzone, so maybe Ohwatch felt it was better to score and either win on defence, or else rely on the final turn one-turner.

And, in fact, my final offensive drive was a triumph of blocking which reduced the high elves to seven men and there was no way Ohwatch could stop the score, so I did the one thing I hate more than anything which was to stall.

Yes, I know I've said many times that I never stall because I hate it and it ruins the fun of games, and I stand by every word. It was a lazy and cowardly thing to do and that part of me that is a gentleman felt terrible - even though what I was actually doing was simply delaying the score until the start of the following turn.

Which left Ohwatch with one turn to try for a score. He set up as if he wasn't going to bother, but then the kick-off result was a quick snap so he thought he'd give it a go. But sadly for him, his lack of players and my side-step meant that he couldn't quite make it.

So it ended as a draw which, after the pounding I took in the first few turns was something of a lucky result for me. And sadly the passing stats were atrocious thanks to the injured thrower not being there to put on his usual show. Still, a single MNG is a small price to pay for some new fans and a fresh-faced rookie lineman so I shouldn't complain.

And next time out I'll just have to make sure he throws even further than usual.
