#18 Kevin Deepsnake – Dead (RIP)
An epic game, and exactly the sort I like the best - plenty of passing, plenty of scoring, no stalling.

Honestly, I wasn't expecting my lads to do much. I was wardancer-less, my two linemen had only one skill between them, and although the catching squad was in pretty good shape, I was facing a team of souped-up gutter runners like I've rarely seen who were faster, more agile and stronger than I was.

Still, I had two legends...

The passing game got off to a great start straight away, and with both teams scoring every couple of turns, I got to throw a lot of long bombs.

We both finished out the half with one-turn scores after quick snaps, leaving us 3-3 at the half. And then the rats scored to open the second half. My reply was then delayed a turn when the catcher muffed his one job (twice) and I was only spared the sight of a skaven with the ball because Rafe also chose that moment to mess up and failed the pick-up.

The final two turns were really exciting, with a really lucky blitz from me leaving the ball within long reach of my thrower and a catcher waiting downfield. Sadly, the thrower failed his second go for it, allowing Rafe to play an amazing final turn in which he had to clear away the wood elves around the ball, go for it twice with a runner without sure feet, make a 1-dice block without block, and then pick-up and pass for the score.

And then my final turn. It began well, with me getting the ball to the catcher and then pushing him upfield, but stupidly I pushed him to the wrong square and my two follow-up blocks couldn't happen. I was still in range though, so off I trotted, needing to make all three of my go for its to score...

... but actually I failed my first dodge and ended the game on snake eyes.

Still, it really was a great game, and I did so much better than I ever thought I was going to so there's no complaints here. 7 for 75 was excellent stats for Briskbreeze (in a game which contained 13 completions in total) and although he was quiet for most of the game, Thursdaynight did finally collect himself a BH and the MVP, thereby nudging himself up to number 4 on the all-time Top Stars list - where I suspect he's going to be staying for a very long time now.

In the team management bit afterwards, I thought long and hard about whether or not to bin the wardancer who was injured last time out with a -AG, but in the end I decided to keep him as his skill-set is not really aimed at ball-handling anyway, and I really need someone with tackle on the team until I can afford two shiny new wardancers (one of whom should be arriving after the next game).

And finally...

This was Rafe's first game back on FUMBBL after a break of just over three years. I suspect this might be why I did so unexpectedly well! But anyway, welcome back, Rafe. Good luck with your rats and I look forward to playing again in the future. Many times.
