Background

In every generation, there is a chosen one. She alone will stand against the vampires, the demons and the forces of darkness. She is the slayer.
-- Rupert Giles

All over the world there are girls who carry within them the potential to become the slayer. When the current slayer dies, in one of them the talent awakes. However, the gifts of a slayer alone are not enough: She needs skills to succeed and survive. Skills require training, and quite some of the candidates test their progress on the Blood Bowl pitches, carefully supervised by their personal watchers. Occasionally, Zara the Slayer herself joins the team to inspire her potential successors.

Team Rules
Team Concept

This team is inspired by the TV series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and the star player Zara the Slayer. The team's development and some aspects in the game itself follow certain rules. Click on the buttons on the right to go through these rules.
Fighting the Undead
(Under review)

Whenever the team can choose opponents freely, it must only play against the following teams:

Fighting Evil Creatures
(Under review)

If no undead creatures are to be found, the Slayer Candidates may play against the following teams:

Aiming High

Whenever the team has a choice within the group of undead or the group of evil creatures, it picks the strongest team around.
Zara the Slayer

If the team has 270k of inducement money or petty cash and plays against one of the teams listed unter "Fighting the Undead" or "Fighting Evil Creatures", it has to hire star player Zara the Slayer. Against other teams, it may never hire her.
Not for Everyone

The team must never use mercenaries. Either one is a potential slayer or one isn't.

Journeywomen can and should be used, but they must be assigned a watcher and be hired after the game, if uninjured and treasury permits.
Survival of the Fittest

To save the biggest potentials, the apothecary will only try to save a slayer candidate from death or permanent injury if she is among the top 3 TV contributers. If this applies to more than three players, only the one or two with the most TV impact gain apothecary privileges. If more than three share the top spot, SPP function as tie breaker.

The Watchers

Each slayer candidate is trained by a "watcher" who is in charge of all career decisions. Any FUMBBL Coach (and other person) can become a watcher. Just contact head coach Rabe.
Special Training

All players start with access to general skills only (as linewomen), but have the chance to specialize in one other skill category as well (by becoming a blitzer, thrower or catcher).

As a slayer candidate's improvement in Blood Bowl is of secondary importance and only a side effect of her slayer training, some skills cannot be chosen and others have to meet prerequisites.

Watcher Rules
  • Each slayer candidate is trained by a "watcher". A journeywoman starts without watcher but can only be hired if a watcher "adopts" her. Any FUMBBL Coach (and other person) can become a watcher. Just contact head coach Rabe.

  • The watcher declares the candidates skill choices in advance for (1) normal rolls, (2) doubles and (3) the order in which +MA and +AV should be taken. Stat increases must be chosen over doubles and doubles over normally available skills. For all three cases the watcher must set a primary training goal and can set a secondary goal.

  • On a double, a linewoman can be turned into a positional (blitzer/thrower/catcher), but only if she still (or again) has her original stat line and carries no niggling injury. The watcher simply states which kind of positional she should become next time she rolls a double. Once she rolls a double, the player will be retired and join the team as the desired positional as soon as possible. Her training goals will be determined by the skills she had already learned.

  • Whenever a slayer candidate makes an improvement roll, the rarest option will be chosen (ie. stat increase over double, double over normal). She then automatically learns whatever her watcher has determined as primary training goal. Her secondary trainings goal then becomes her new primary goal. Training goals that are no longer permitted (for example Nerves of Steel once a candidate has learned Frenzy or the transformation into a positional once she got a stat increase) will automatically be dropped. If a primary training goal is not available yet (because prerequisites are not met), the candidate will learn her secondary training goal first.

  • If for some reason a slayer candidate has no training goal left, her skill will be determined randomly (taking into account prerequisites) and her watcher will immediately be released of his duty. A new watcher takes over as soon as possible.

  • The watcher may only change or add training goals at certain occasions. Note that a watcher will always be informed via PM by coach Rabe when an opportunity comes up. He will also get an explanation on the available options in his concrete case. The occasions are:

    (a) The slayer candidate skills. The watcher can declare a new secondary training goal for the now vacant spot. In addition, he may either replace one secondary training goal by another suitable skill or may switch primary and secondary training goals in one of the two other categories.

    (b) The slayer candidate has played (another) 10 games. Her watcher may either replace one secondary training goal by another suitable skill or may switch primary and secondary training goals in one of the three categories.

    (c) The slayer candidate suffers a permanent injury. If a stat is lowered, he may immediately remove the related stat increase from the list of current training goals. If the primary goal is removed, the second becomes primary. The watcher then sets a new secondary trainings goal.

Additionally, the watcher can in all three cases decide to send the slayer candidate into recovery (see below), if she carries at least one permanent injury.

  • A recovering slayer candidate gets removed from the roster and set onto the watchers waiting list together with her watcher. Once it's his turn again, she will join the team at the same position as before and her training goals will be determined by the skills she had already learned.

  • As a slayer candidate dies, her watcher is released. He may only become watcher again if a new slayer candidate joins the team and there are no other possible watchers left.

  • Some skills are not permitted to be chosen, others have prerequisites (see list under "Skills").

FAQ

I want to become a watcher! What shall I do?

You will have to provide name, background info, picture and training goals for your slayer candidate. Read the team biography. Send a PM to coach Rabe, he will guide you through the process. If no player slot is available, you will be put onto the waiting list and contacted by Rabe, as soon as one opens up.

How do I know when I have to get active?

Rabe will contact you via PM and let you know what options you have.

When can I change my slayer candidates training goals?

There are certain occasions when the training goals can be adjusted: After every 10 games played, when a player has learned something new, after a lasting injury and when she's back from recovery. Rabe will let you know.

Will you inform me about my slayer candidates achievements?

Interesting events will be recorded in your player's biography. Some of them might get mentioned in a news PM to all coaches. You most likely won't get individual updates. However, if you feel like something has been overlooked, let coach Rabe know.

My slayer candidate died - what now?

If you want to continue as a watcher despite your failure, you will be put onto the waiting list. Once a player slot becomes free and there are no other watchers available, you'll be notified and get another chance.

My slayer candidate got crippled - what now?

She can either play on (there are no forced retirements) or go into recovery, giving her the chance to start fresh. Once a player carries at least one lasting injury, recovery can start at any given time - just let coach Rabe know. Your trainee will be retired and then re-hired after some time.

My slayer candidate is due to skill - what now?

She'll improve her skills and abilities according to the training goals specified by you. Stat increases always come before skills and doubles before normal rolls. You will immediately be asked to update her training goals.

I'll be absent for a while. Do I have to inform you? Who will watch over my slayer candidate in the meantime?

Telling coach Rabe you'll be gone for several months is polite, but not necessary. Your training goals define how your slayer candidate will develop should she manage to skill. She'll play on despite lasting injuries, unless you have given coach Rabe different orders. Only if she skills and has no fitting training goal left, you will be considered irresponsible and immediately released as a watcher.
