Eaters of Brains
P [L] Necromantic Horror

WINNERS OF THE GREAT ALBION REGIONAL DIVISION, SEASON XIX

Team captains:
Nosferatu 6 June 2010 - 16 September 2012 (died from a fireblast)
The Ring 16 September 2012 - 7 December 2016 (killed by a kroxigor)
Oculus 7 December 2016 -

After two games in the Fringe this team joined the WIL on July 12 2010. They joined the league in its 18th season, and were entered into the Albany Regional Division.

SEASON XVIII
Albany Regional Division

The team won their first match in the league, on July 28 2010, versus coach Gordreg's Deads Army, also a necro team.

They finished in 4th place with 22 points, after narrowingly missing the chance to go to the playoffs in their last match. The 'Eaters' are fairly happy with the season, although the skilling of zombies has been slow. Finishing in a reasonably strong position means they're looking allright for next season. And they've only lost one game ever, so far!

SEASON XIX
Great Albion Regional Division

The Eaters of Brains won the division! They ended up with 32 points after six wins and one draw. Still only one game lost since joining the WIL! This season was initially rather easy for the Eaters who were the strongest team by far when the season began. As the other teams progressed it became a little more intersting, and the final match versus Lemf's Rough Rides could have gone either way. In the end, the needed draw was secured and the Eaters are headed for the Conferences!

Edit: Between the seasons a friendly was arranged vs James_Probert's Skaven Holy Cliffs, which was one of the bloodiest matches I've played. 11 cas, including a dead zombie (Welliq) and an mng wight (Nosferatu) means the start of season XX is going to get a bit more difficult for the Eaters.

SEASON XX
Dragon Conference

It was. The twentieth season meant nothing but shame for the Eaters. They won only one match, got three ties and three losses. They started the season as one of the strongest teams in the league, in terms of TR and remained so throughout the season, yet nothing seemed to work. It was partly bad play, partly bad luck.

The team is actually in very good shape, the wolves are thriving, the wights are skilling up nicely. The others could use more skills, but have potential. They just couldn't get things to work this season. Hopefully next season will be better. The team was demoted to the regionals again, where they will have to fire numerous players to get down to the proper TR levels. This will undoubtedly hurt the team massively. Such a shame.

SEASON XXI
Premier Division

After Season XX the White Isle League moved over to the FFB client. Most other coaches restarted their teams, but having only been in the league for a few seasons I decided to keep the Eaters. This meant that they were instantly promoted to the Premier Division, because of their high TV! In addition, this meant that the team didn't have to be trimmed. Lucky me!

In the end, Season XXI was as much a walk of shame as Season XX. Being in the Premier League is hard, but once again the team COULD have won many more games than they did, ending up with 1 win, 2 ties and 6 losses. The team finished last, with 15 points, and will therefore be demoted to the Conferences. Should do them good. Some games were unwinnable, but in others the margins were just not on my side. Of course, facing many more experienced coaches took its toll. In addition, the team wasn't well built enough to meet strong teams where most or all players were skilled. The Eaters rely heavily on their positionals, the zombies are just not skilled enough, and during season XXI, The Shining, one of the teams two highly skilled wolves, died. The new wolf, The Ring, started off nicely in her first game though, and looks like she could fill the boots of her predecessor. Also, team captain Nosferatu was injured with a -1AV. He stays on the team though, he's too good to throw away.

SEASON XXII
Dragon Conference

The Eaters ended up in 4th place with 20 points (2 1 3) after having played an average season. They lost another wolf, Scream, and their ST4 ghoul Saw. The team took a dive in terms of TV but are recovering. They will stay in the Conferences for next season.

SEASON XXIII
Dragon Conference

Remained in Conferences. 5th place. 2 2 3.

SEASON XXIV
Gryphon Conference

Demoted to Regionals. 7th place. 1 2 3. Had to trim a bit, but nothing too disastrous. Team Captain Nosferatu gained +1AV, making up for his lost -av earlier. Although this makes him a bit bloated I still wanna keep him on the team.

SEASON XXV
Morien Regional Division

The Eaters finished 2nd with 2/2/2 and 25 points. Great tragedy befell them in the last turn of the last game of the season, when team captain of two years, Nosferatu the wight, was hit by a fireball spell and killed! The team is still strong with two good wolves, but Nosferatu will be hard to replace. New team captain is The Ring, my most highly skilled werewolf. The Eaters of Brains were promoted to the Conferences once again!

SEASON XXVI
Gryphon Conference

The team finished 5th with 20 points (2-1-3) and should stay in the Conferences. The last match was disastrous but otherwise an average season. Frankenstein's Monster was injured (-av) and will have to be replaced. It took nine seasons to get him to 46 points. Oh the joy of skilling up golems...

SEASON XXVII
Unicorn Conference

The Eaters finished 3rd with 19 points (3-0-4) and stay in the Conferences.

SEASON XXVIII
Dragon Conference

The team finished 4th with 21 points (2-2-2) after a very average season. They are staying in Conferences.

SEASON XXIX
Lion Conference

The eaters finished 4th with 21 poinst (3-2-2). Could have gone a lot better.

SEASON XXX
Gryphon Conference

Ended up in 5th place with 2/1/3. A very slightly below average season. Nothing much happened, except that the team lost a decent wight, and in the final game The Ring died, but regenerated thankfully and survived to play another day!

SEASON XXXI
Gryphon Conference

This season the team was actually quite close to promotion! They finished third at 21 points (3/2/2) and ended up playing a play off game against Wotfudboy's zons The Power of Lingerie. This game was a bit of a failure though, and ended 2-0 to the zons. The Eaters stay in the Confs, which is probably for the best. But - on a happier note: The Ring reached 175 spp this season, becoming my first ever fumbbl Legend! After the season I discarded a RR, going from 5 to 4, in order to make the team a little less bloated. We'll see if that was a good choice or not.

SEASON XXXII
Unicorn Conference

It probably was. My experience so far is that even with 4 RR's I rarely run out too early. The third game of this season was the Eaters of Brains' 100th game! And luckily enough it was a win! 1-0 against Purplechest's White and Purple Smoke. It was a close game, where The Village got his third skill, a +AG which makes him a lot better than before, despite his odd choice of Stand Firm as his second skill. The next game of the season, the 4th, was DP zombie Twenty-eight days later's 100th game. He is by far my oldest player on fummbl, and also the most fouling player in WIL. Unfortunately he was sent off in the first turn after having rolled snakes on the injury roll! In the 5th game, The Village died, killed by a frog blitzer. I've decided not to buy a new ghoul, having come to the conclusion that they are a bit pointless on a necro team. One ghoul will have to do. The game was otherwise a stunning success, in which The Bride of Frankenstein MNG'd Morg 'n' Thorg on the first turn of the match! This game also featured the team's second ever zombie touchdown, scored by World War Z. In the end the season went rather badly. The Eaters finished 6th at 17 points (2-2-3).

SEASON XXXIII
Lion Conference

After a decent start this season turned out pretty badly. The team finished 6th at 15 points (2-1-3). What's more, the penultimate round saw the tragic death of The Others after three years of service. She was killed by Stonetroll's minotaur Conan the Useless. She has been replaced by The Grudge, who has sworn to avenge her death at some point, by killing Conan :)

SEASON XXXIV
Gryphon conference

A rather unsuccessful season with 15 p, 5th place, 2-0-5. I had almost hoped for the team to be demoted, in order to rebuild in a more friendly environment, but even that failed, when they won their last two games. The team was already in bad shape after having lost The Others the previous season, and now they lost The Bride of Frankenstein as well, during the second match, a game vs Bill-BJJ's orcs Rickson by Armbar. Later on during the season the other golem was killed as well. The team's only remaining ghoul, Pet Sematary was hurt in the penultimate game and suffered a -1MA injury. I decided to fire him and not hire any new ghoul. I feel they don't really play any sensible role on a necro team.

On a more positive note: after season XXXIV it was announced that the team's DP, Twenty-eight Days Later, is now the all time fouliest player in the WIL! At that point he had already surpassed the previous record holder by about 20 fouls, so that crucial, record-breaking foul probably happened at some point during the autumn of 2014.

SEASON XXXV
Unicorn Conference

Failed season with 0-3-2 and 18 p. 5th place. The season saw an unprecedented number of forfeits (i.e. from other coaches in the conference), so the team didn't play that many games. For once, no crucial players were lost during the season, and The Grudge gained +AG, just like The Ring, and she's developing nicely. Also a few zombies picked up skills and the team is slowly becoming more balanced. The main problem is the two now new golems who are almost completely unskilled, and really slow to skill up. But with two +AG wolves I'm hopeful that next season will be more successful.

SEASON XXXVI
Unicorn Conference

The Season got off to a terrible start as the first game saw the tragic and far too early demise of 'The Grudge'. She was killed by an elf catcher! This happened on 23 April 2015 after only about six months on the team. The Grudge was a promising new wolf, and had already gained +AG. She was replaced by The Conjuring. In the end the season was the worst in a long time, and the team finished last at 12 p, 1-1-5. The Eaters will thus be demoted to the Regionals again, after 11 seasons in the Conferences. It should do the team good to face easier opponents and hopefully I will be able to skill up the golems, the wights and the new wolf a bit.

Edit: In the end the Eaters remained in the conferences. Presumably due to lack of players. Oh well.

SEASON XXXVII
Lion Conference

Possibly the worst season ever. In terms of results. The team finished last, with only 8 pts at 0-1-6. No important players were lost though, so that's a plus. We should have been demoted, but once again weren't, due to lack of players.

SEASON XXXVIII
Gryphon Conference

A much more average season. The team finished 5th with 2-2-3 and 17 pts. Nothing extraordinary happened.

SEASON XXXIX
Unicorn Conference

Another lousy season. Finished 5th at 2-1-4 and 16 pts. We narrowly avoided demotion by one point only! The main events of the season were two unfortunate deaths. Firstly, Twenty-eight Days Later, my oldest player ever on fumbbl, and the last player from the original team lineup, died on the pitch. This super fast zombie fouler played 145 games, during nearly six years on the team and finished at 53 SPP. At the time of his death, on 14 February 2016, he was the fouliest player ever in WIL. The latest wolf, The Conjuring, died from a failed dodge. At the time of his death he had 50 SPP after 26 games. After his death he was made MVP for that match, and thus his final score is 55 SPP. He was replaced by Crimson Peak.

The last game of this season was the team's 150th match!

SEASON XXXX
Unicorn Conference

An average season. The Eaters finished 5th, with 3-0-4 and 19 pts. Nothing remarkable happened, except The Ring died once but regened.

SEASON XLI
Unicorn Conference

The second game this season was eventful: The latest werewolf, Crimson Peak, was killed, after only two seasons on the team. He was replaced by Oculus, who gained +AG in the last game of the season! Is this a new star in the making? Also, this match saw The Ring reach 300 SPP! I finished in 4th place, with 2-1-3 and 15 pts.

SEASON XLII
Gryphon Conference

A dramatic and very costly season! The fourth game saw the death of Rocky, my most skilled Golem, who died at 49 SPP after two years on the team. I do not look forward to trying to skill up a new Golem, as well as the other one, Young Frankenstein, who only has MB and Guard so far. Blade was hurt in this game as well, suffering a -MA. He gets to stay on the team, but it's probably only a matter of time before he's hurt so bad he has to retire, or is killed. All in all a disastrous game.

The last game of the season saw the death of epic legendary star The Ring. She was killed by the Kroxigor Deff, of the Ipanema Snappers, after more than five years, 135 games and 317 spp. She is remembered as one of the top players in the history of the league. The Eaters won the game 1-0 and finished 4th at 3-1-3 and 20 pts. An average season with extraordinary casualties. New team captain is the promising young wolf Oculus.

The team will now be far less bloated, since The Ring was the most expensive player in the league at the time of her death. Hopefully this will be an opportunity to create a more balanced team for the future.

SEASON XLIII

This season saw the death of long time wight Blade, who was killed in a game vs The Demon's WIL to win. With his niggle since earlier it was only a matter of time. But as is often the case, the team now has no properly skilled wight at all.
