Hi. I currently moved to BB2 because of sales, and also to test a new bloodbowl place.

I still accept Fumbbl as the BB's skilled' place. Dats why im asking strategy question on this forum.

I was asking myself thr pros & the cons of having a thrower as a ball-carrier on the orc team. I checked a lot of top orc's teams / coaches (in term of winrate), and they often (not always) seems not to use a thrower, but a blitzer with SH / + AG (but not always +AG).

When it comes to comparison :

-thrower are 5338 Pass /SH /P acess for 70k. SH is the main reason you take him, but the downside is -1 AV -1 MA, which leave your ballcarrier slower than the average 6MA, and make him a target because of low AV. Another plus, is that you can pick leader after block, which gives you 40k compared to a classic RR (huge argument to me)

-blitzer are 6339 Block / S access for 80k. Downside is that you got to pick SH, but you also have one less blitzer on the brawl (since he's busy carrying). You also replace the thrower by another lineman or a goblin.

What's your opinion and arguments about that?

Have a nice day Very Happy

I am not an orc coach but most people seem to agree you take the Thrower early, when his Sure Hands is a significant asset to the team, and then once you have a good ball-carrying blitzer you fire him.

Throwers are good at higher levels of team development, as 70k for a bench-warmer who can help you win short drives isn't too bad once you get up around 2M. Generally, I take a Thrower as a 14th player, maybe 13th. But on a rookie team, I really like having 3 linos to put on the LOS, so I can deploy my BOBs and Blitzers as I like. This means I really want a carrier Blitzer, so I can field him reliably on both sides of the ball.

My typical strategy for building a carrier Blitzer is to fish for stats: any Blitzer with any stat (MA, AG,or ST) is a potential carrier. Non-stat players take Mighty Blow, as an accelerant for Tackle or Guard. If I don't get any stats on the first roll, the last Blitzer to improve takes Sure Hands (or Dodge on a double, with SH to follow).

If you plan to pass alot, the thrower is great. If you plan to win, you go with a blitzer!

I take the orc thrower in league (and I would guess in naf) and then dump him once I get a +stat or dodge Blitzer. In ranked/box/bb2 I don't take him because I am more afraid of putting a bob on the los or not getting an apo after game 1 than I am of strip ball.

IMO the thrower is the ideal ball carrier on an orc team because you do not have to waste taking Sure Hands on a blitzer which is a waste of a skill up.

Also the best ball carrier on an orc team is acutally a +ag goblin. He ignores tackle zones, you can toss him and he is only on the field for offense so you can protect him.

take 2-4 goblins early in team development, get 1-2 of them skilled up, hopefully one of them with +AG and now you no longer need a thrower and your blitzers can skill up as killers.

Side benefit of Goblins is they potentially have a MA of 9 on normal skill up rolls.

The movement of the thrower is the killer for me. Movement 5 is just painfully slow for a ball carrier. I dump them as soon as I have a blitzer that can do the job.

Take thrower early, retire when a blitzer gets +MA/+AG or even dodge and give sure-hands. With 4 Blitzers/4 Bobs and maybe the Troll, the thrower is left out on the defensive lineup imo.

I would look to re-hire the thrower at higher TV where you need someone to pass the ball for a 2 turn score but would be geared for the offensive drive only.

The thing is: if you use a Blitzer as a ball carrier, you are wasting his Strength abilities (Guard, Mighty Blow).

Not entirely. Guard on a ball carrier is still a good thing to have, and he will also set up on defense.

Heh heh heh.

Where are Licker & Darth when you need them?

If you have "moved to BB2" you should post this on the Steam BB2 forum. Twisted Evil

Well, if you take Stand Firm on a Blitzer ball carrier you are actually making a good use of Strength skill, but I understand your point.
On the other hand, having a MA 5 ball carrier is terribad, but at high TV if you need to pass the ball he can be useful sometimes (and at low TV in some formats, like tourneys).
I played with and without Thrower, at the moment I'm fine using a MA 7 AG 4 Blitzer as ball carrier.

Cheap rr but expensive player with poor statline, so, not great gain.
Actually the Orc Throwers would be way better as Runners with MA 6 and without Pass.
