So in a NAF style setting most skaven coaches tend to bring the rat ogre and/or a star player. But would it really be so awful to go with a much deeper bench instead?

Everything is viable if you have a plan.
Having said that, there isnt much mighty blow on Naf tourneys, so the need for a deep bench is somewhat reduced, while the need for higher strength remains a problem for skaven.
spetially when for 190 you get a st4 block piece with grab and other skills. the grab being great for 1turn purposes too |

Not really, it is better to have a powerfull player and be down 2 linerats than being 11 vanilla players. |
