The Grand Necromancer, Sloss-ti, would like to announce that Season 5 of Secret League Americas has now officially been completed. This means that we can now move into the final stage, which is a no-holds-barred knockout tournament playoff between the top 8 teams, to decide who will be the overall league winner for the season.

However, before that can begin, I firstly need to confirm the results of the lost treasures and player prizes (as those can affect the final season scores) ...

Firstly, the lost treasures:

In the Upper Tier (highest-TV division), Antithesisoftime's Khorney Jokes managed to finally end the epic run of Sigmar1's Daemons of Slaanesh, Ecstasy and Agony, who had held the Accursed Fur-lined Half-brassiere of Deves'tatyll over two whole seasons.

Anti stole the treasure in their penultimate game of the season, which gives +2 to her season score. It will remain to be seen if the Half-brassiere bestowes as much good fortune on its new owner as it did on its previous one ... Wink

Player Prize Results:

Our seasonal player prizes go to the individual players who have excelled on the BB pitch above all others in certain categories. They are listed on the 'booty' tab of the SLA Group Page, along with a list of past winners. Each player prize gives +1 to the season score for their team. They are based on the player stats in selected categories, which are posted on the 'stats' tab of the group page.

These are the winners for Season 5!:

Image Golden Ball of Shak'rilak (touchdowns)

The Golden Ball this season goes to Simimar Neriric of Heavy Elf Steel Machines (Sea Elf - Kaze), with 10 touchdowns, having been unclaimed last season. Simimar is only the second player to claim the Golden Ball and the first since Season 2.

Image Golden Gauntlet of Ixlsis (blocks)

The Golden Gauntlet this season is claimed by Miyagino Nishikinosuke of SL Shogun (Northern Nippon - MrNomad), with 91. Miyagino has been in the running all season and scored the most blocks since Garbug of Big 'Uns is Best 'Uns in Season 2.

Image Golden Mace of Ixlsis (casualties)

The Golden Mace this season is claimed by Madeline Khorne of Khorney Jokes (Khorne - Antitheisoftime), with 15, after being unclaimed last season. Madeline has been well in the lead all season and there has never really been any doubt over who would win it. She equals the record set by Honda Tadakatsu of SL Shogun in Season 2.

Image Golden Wings of Vraxx (Passing Yards)

The Golden Wings this Season go to Flame Bond of Heavy Elf Steel Machines (Sea Elf - Kaze), with 74 yards. Flame Bond overtakes Dherquii of Dead Men Walking, who had been in the lead after Round 7. 74 yards is a new SLA record - smashing the previous record of 50 set by Erendriel Johnson last season.

Image Golden Glove of Hopsalottal (interceptions)

The Golden Glove has actually been won, for the first season ever, by Ena Elzeiros of Heavy Elf Steel Machines (Sea Elf - Kaze), with 3 interceptions. With the prize having been unclaimed for 4 seasons, this is quite a feat (however, this one is likely to be replaced next season in any case).

Image Golden Boot of Ripfang (fouls)

The Golden Boot this season goes to Faipiroth Kranwenoth of Vanguard of a Lost God (Daemons of Malal - Salad Bar), with 16 fouls. Faipiroth has been in the lead with this one for most of the season, proving that consistent fouling can be rewarded!

Image Golden Shades of Slimi Hendrik (MVPs)

The Golden Shades are the only prize that is unclaimed this season, with two players in the Lower Tier both on 4 MVPs.

With the player prizes all sorted out, I have posted the final league standings for Season 5 on the SLA Group Page (on the 'Standings' tab). This includes bonus points for the lost treasure and player prizes.

Competition for the coveted playoff spots has been fierce this season - the top 5 teams in the Upper Tier and the top 3 in the Lower have made the cut. Several coaches lost out very narrowly by just 1 or 2 points (myself included - doh!).

In the Upper Tier, first-place is taken by dashergeaux's Kurnous, who have achieved an amazing perfect whitewash of 9/0/0. They are surely going to be one of the favorites to take the grand prize this season. Sigmar1 came in second, with a solid performance. Antithesisoftime takes 3rd place, boosted by a lost treasure and player prize, and just edges ahead of MrNomad in 4th on TD difference (they tied on 15 points). Yes, SL Shogun, our 3-peat Champions have qualified for the finals, so the 4-peat prospect is still alive and kicking. Kzarik's Clan Eshin managed to squeeze into 5th place, winning out in a tight last-round contest with razmus and myself.

In the Lower Tier, first-place was tied between rodney_dangerfield and Bazakastine, both on 20 points. Amazingly, the tie-break is won by rodney on cas difference, given they tied their 1-on-1 game and are also tied on TD difference. Azure and Kaze were then tied on 17 points for the third-place spot (after Kaze's impressive haul of 3 player prizes). However, Azure wins that tie-breaker, because he beat Kaze in their 1-on-1 game.

The draw for the final playoff tournament will be seeded, with the Upper teams being seeds 1-5 and the Lower teams seeds 6-8. I'll try to kick of the final tournament later this evening.

The Grand Slann Necromancer, Sloss-ti, hereby declares that the final playoff tournament of Secret League Americas, Season 5, is begun! Who will earn the glory of wearing the Crown of the New World, and can anyone stop the almighty freight train that is SL Shogun?

The SLA final playoff is an 8-team knockout tournament, here are the matchups:

In the first half of the draw, we have:

Image Kurnous Cowboys (Kurnous) - dashergeaux vs Honorable Privateers (Pirates of Sartosa) - Azure Image

This promises to be a thrilling match between dashergeaux, who has been untouchable this season with his Kurnous Cowboys, and Azure, who is a top FUMBBL coach that needs no introduction. dasher has the TV-advantage and is on red-hot form, however Azure has proven to be very hard to beat with his pirates!

ImageMeister Frantz Schmidt and Co (Necrarch) - rodney_dangerfield vs Khorney Jokes (Khorne) - Antithesisoftime Image

rodney managed to top the Lower Tier this season, just ahead of last season's finalist, Bazakastine, putting in many solid performances with his Necrarch. Anti has also had a great season and is commanding what is surely one of the most feared and brutal teams in the league. Whatever happens, I wouldn't want to be the groundsman cleaning up after this one!

In the second half:

ImageSL Shogun (Northern Nippon) - MrNomad vs [SL] Shadow Horde (Clan Eshin) - Kzarik Image

Here we have a rematch of the Season 3 Championship game between our ruling 3-peat Champion, SL Shogun and Kzarik's Shadow Horde. Back then, Kzarik took Nomad to overtime, but lost the coin toss and his chances slipped away. However, this season, Kzarik managed to beat SL Shogun during the league phase. I predict a very close and hard-fought game that is going to be very hard to call.

ImageEcstasy and Agony (Daemons of Slaanesh) - Sigmar1 vs Martek Magicians (Araby) - Bazakastine Image

E&A have played in every SLA season since the very first and have been a regular feature in the final playoffs, but have yet to secure the Crown. They face off in the first round against Bazakastine's Araby, who were the runners up last season to SL Shogun. This one will surely be an epic, seat-of-your-pants brawl between two top FUMBBL coaches. Book your tickets fast for this one!

Let the games begin! Sloss-ti wishes good luck to all of the teams involved! (ribbit) Very Happy

Just to add to the record books... Flame Bond beat the old SEASON record in a SINGLE GAME. Fifty-six passing yards, in four passes in a single game. Whew! Now that's an elf! (I blame My Lil' Khornegor for trying to shame the agile teams. Smile)

So! Season 5 of Secret League Americas is now complete!

The final playoff tournament was a truly epic contest that the Lustrian bards of Blood Bowl will be singing for many years to come. This time around, both of last season's finalists, MrNomad's SL Shogun and Bazakastine's Martek Magicians were knocked out in the first round. Yes, you heard it folks, SL Shogun's 3-season long dominance of SLA has finally come to an end! Sloss-ti can hardly believe his bulbous froggy eyes! Razz

In the end, the final game was between Kzarik, who's Clan Eshin had knocked out the mighty 3-peat Champions, SL Shogun, and Azure, who's Pirates of Sartosa had beaten dashergeaux's Kurnous in the first-round, who had scored a perfect record during the league phase of the season.

Anyway, without further ado, the Champion of Season 5 of SLA and the winner of the Crown of the New World is:

ImageHonorable Privateers (Pirates of Sartosa) - Azure

Congrats to Azure, who is only the third coach to have won Secret League Americas and the first to do it with a Lower Tier team (this being his first season in the league)!

Congratulations also go to Kzarik, who takes home the Silver Chalice for the second time, having previously lost in overtime to SL Shogun in Season 3. Bronze chalices also go to Antithesisoftime and Sigmar1, who made it to the semi-finals.

Thanks to everyone who played in SLA Season 5. I hope some of you will be sticking around, as I'll be kicking off a recruitment thread for Season 6 shortly! Wink
