Sirongrim Sparrows

The Sparrows were founded some years back by the now-gone Ulthuan Sirongrim Winery in order to get some cheap publicity. Thanks to the bad players (the only ones who would pay on such low wages), corner-cutting and poor training, the team did not do very well. Actually, they pretty much sucked. Finally, after a completely victoryless (but not casualty-free) season, the Winery sold the team away in disgust.

Enter Teryntar Firmast, a multi-talented businesself, Blood Bowl fan and the Sparrows' current manager. He saw the mistakes the Winery had made and the potential for greatness inherent in the Sparrows. He completely sacked the old coaching staff and replaced them with the former Tor Elyr Dodgers' lineman Ennith "Brokeback" Delmair to bring some experience into the team. Almost half of the players went the way of the coaching staff as well, and were replaced with younger elves with considerably more star potential, hired with considerable sums of money from amateur leagues. With the addition of a healer and completely new uniforms, masks and hair gel, Firmast thought the team was ready to conquer the world.

He was, of course, completely and utterly wrong.

The team played reasonably well. They went relatively unharmed. They even managed to maim a few opposing players. The crowds went unimpressed: The Sparrows were utterly average. No-one would even bother to pelt them with rubbish. Indeed, a common joke among the players was that would the Sparrows ever get worse, their popularity would rise.

Finally, Firmast and Delmair decided the Sparrows needed something new, something different. They needed something radical. The answer? Firdaer Snowfinch, an adventurer down on his luck and a part-time bard, playing street bowl to pay off some debts. When Delmair witnessed how Snowfinch calmly passed the ball forward and got tackled through a window right after, he was quite impressed. When he witnessed how Snowfinch clambered back to the field, knocked the tackler out with a bottle and flashed a roguish grin to the spectators, he hired him right away.

Snowfinch has brought an intriguing and distinctly un-elvish flavour to the team. According to him, he is "not too proud to acknowledge the occasional need for fouling - or the fun of it". His showy playstyle and "we're not here to win, we're here to draw crowds" -attitude to the game has proved infective and has spread trough the players. The team has gained a massive boost in popularity after Snowfinch's introduction, particularly amongst the younger, lower-class elves who enjoy both the show and the reactions of their parents and betters. However, it remains to be seen how the Sparrows' new frontman and style will affect their game. If the team and Snowfinch fit together, there is no limit to the heights the Sparrows can soar. If not, well, they'll stop when they hit the dirt.
