Brethren of the Horned Rat

Following the great war, the congregation at the Temple of the Horned Rat was decimated. Many faithful worshippers had been killed in the conscription armies, and the remaining Skaven population of the Southern Waste Lands had turned their back on religion.

Church Tithes were down, Attendances to mass were down, and the Temple was dying. The Brethren's Council Of Elders hatched a desperate plan, to include Blood Bowl games as a part of the Worship Ceremony. Perhaps success on the field would attract more youth to hear the message? Maybe some stars would convert to Horned Ratholicism in order to join the team, and create the publicity the Church needed. Or perhaps the only good thing to come of it would be the death of Azock, a grumpy cheapskate from the congregation who had been persuaded to make up the numbers when he failed to tithe enough to cover the cost of outfitting a player. As far as the council was concerned, there were no downsides.

In their first season, the Brethren suprised everybody, including themselves.
A loss first up against eventual league winners Bendouin Falcons, was followed by a 6 game undefeated streak which saw them finish runner up, and win promotion to the premier division as a wildcard. All the original players survived, including the obnoxious Azock, with a 2 specialist throwers undergoing the conversion rites to join the team. Attendance to Mass was up, and plans were afoot to enlarge the temple to accomidate new worshippers. The council's gamble was paying off...</b></div><br />
