| With the success of Farmer Ed's Goats, a number of copycats emerged from the woodwork. Pietro Porcospino's Pigskin Pigs and Lambert Hamm's Slammin' Rams were two of the more worthy contenders, but other teams were shoddy knockoffs with dodgy "coaches" leading unwitting and barely-trained animals onto the field to be brutally tackled. (The sorry tale of Beaufort's Blood Bowl Bears reversed this pattern: released from their cages shortly before kickoff, the bears devoured three opposing players and most of Beaufort. It was thirty minutes before the Bretonnian army responded to the commotion, by which time all the surviving fans had left the stadium. In that time, the bears had made no attempt to touch the ball.) But among these animal teams, there are few more effective, or adorable, or eerie than Magnus Kzath's unnamed team of sheep. Or of lambs, rather -- there are rarely more than one or two adult sheep on the field at once. Teams who have faced them couldn't explain how a bunch of tiny lambs could hit so hard, or their seeming imperviousness to injury, or the odd blue glow that surrounded the team as they rearranged formations perfectly. It's worth noting that, before entering the field of Blood Bowl coaching/animal husbandry, Kzath was a sorcerer of some renown... |
