I'm not sure this is fair to Jimmy, but it was pretty funny. |

@ Goo, I'm in your camp on Juggernaut, but I also think it's not a way-out, freaky wrong decision even if it's suboptimal right this moment. There's only one more "obvious" skill in this player's track before looking at the Tier 2 skills (and Dodge, which is a great skill but has limited synergy). When a double is my second choice skill, and I roll doubles, and the player goes up fast, often I take it. So, really what the coach is doing here is comparing Juggernaut to all the other unimpressive choices, and taking it only if it's the winner.
I'd pick my skill like this: go down the list of G and A skills, pick a top two (Tackle and whatever, I say Jump Up), and compare Juggernaut to the #2 skill. If Juggernaut is clearly better than your second-best normal pick, take it. If not, don't. Since I rate Jump Up maybe slightly above Juggernaut on a TPOMBer, that means I ignore it. If I get a fourth double next time, I might reconsider.
Re: Juggernaut and surfing… the only skill worth considering for surf value is Frenzy. The power of surf is 80% in its threat, and in the opponent's mind "probably" is good enough a deterrent, and the extra odds don't change his internal math much. Juggernaut is a good late skill for a POMBer because it beats two moderately common anti-POMB skills, and then it's also kind of a neat toolbox thing because every once in awhile you need to break a Stand Firm zone and you don't want to have to pow. Compared to Tackle it sucks, compared to Pro it's kind of a wash. Pro does more damage, so I'd take Pro unless I also was doing the Frenzy thing. Not that I'd take Pro (maybe at Super Star), but that Juggernaut doesn't really pass the Pro test (if it's not better than Pro, it's not a very good skill). |

Dodge sucks on a lot of pombers because they generally aren't MA7 and AG4. |

Except I have over 100 games with many races and have never had more than a single clawpomb on a team in the races that do sport it. |

I like dodge on blitzers, mainly because it's good play to try to tie them up with high strength players and guard. If I don't NEED my blitz and are just picking a soft attrition target, I quite often dodge with a stormvermin late in the turn to pick on a skink, goblin, or whatever. On a elf attrition piece, dodge is a no-brainer. |
