How about deleting inactive teams from the ladder-structure?

Like teams that haven't been played for a year or so?

I mean it's very frustrating to actually challenge anyone when you don't know, whether they're even on fumbbl anymore?

How about it? It's not very hard to implement, it's already in faction.

Why isn't anything being done about the issue then?

Blah Blah Blah, why isn't anything been done, the admins are so lazy, blah blah blah.

I talked about it to Christer a while ago. His answer was that this issue is more complex than it looks and there is no easy way to implement it (easy as in non-database-intensive). So give the guy a break he's done a lot reecently.

A word more explanation, since "It's already in Faction". In Faction every team already gets two extra variables appended to it. Games played that round and points. At the end of every round, these variables get checked for every team. In Ladder, implementing inactivity would mean checking every day how long it has been since the team's last game, without the aid of any already added variables. This is a lot harder than the Faction thing.

No,
The active ladder teams group works just fine....
when the staff removes the inactive coaches though.....

"All coaches who are inactive for more than 2 weeks will be kicked from the group."
"45. Roster [ L] Mr Kappa's Creek (35d) Dreddolo 106/98 Chaos 0"

35 days >> 2 weeks Wink

hey I don't monitor the group every time. I tend to kick after a month.

anyway, Mez', a little option wouyld be to take out of the lists the coaches that weren't online for more than a month.

That would be an easy solution!

I didn't say admins were lazy, I appreciate Christer's efforts, certainly. And thank you for bringing that up, I wasn't aware of that.

And sorry for the Faction analogy, it didn't even work in the firts place.

It doesn't have to be an a completely automated process using variables like in Faction that check the date of the round, games played in the round etc.

Christer could in fact set up a much simpler deactivation script that can be run manually or set to run automatically at the beginning of each month.

Select teams where Division = L
and MAX(Game Played Date) <= Last_Day(Add_Months(Sysdate, -4))
Set Active to N

Am not sure what database Christer is using, but I am sure there are functions available like Max, Last_Day and Sysdate.

The above example inactivates teams who last played a game more than the last day of the months 3 months ago. So if run today on 30 October, it would inactivate any team who last played a game on 30 June 2005 or earlier.

There are probably more steps involved such as the Ladder ladder query being modified to only show active teams, but certainly not that difficult for someone like Christer. Just a matter of if he has time, and if he thinks it is worth doing.

31 of 34 people think it's worth doing.

So a big and a pretty please!

malthor: that would take a lot of database time, that's currently the only problem.

Mezir, it would not take a lot of database time if it was only executed once a month as a standard script. It can even be scheduled for a known period of low activity (eg 5 AM BB time on Monday).

how about having a moderator/admin for ladder, who can manually add an 'inactive flag' to ladder teams. considering the time ur DB changes would take, it might be easier to just create the option for someone to go around every 3 months and clean up teams that haven't played a single match, or their coaches haven't been on for 2 months...

and if they ever come back, they activate them again...
