Congrats to Philhala for their Superbowl XI Championship!!

We like to think their run in the playoffs was fueled by their awesome new logo Wink but we all know it takes dice and a stern coaching effort to get to the playoffs and fight through them undefeated. Well done, Rel.

Wow! When I saw the playoff seeds, I thought Philhala was the least likely candidate (probably was biased by my 3-0 dicing of them early in the season) for the title. The team was new in the league this year too if I'm not mistaken. As were the Drowns Surprised

Congrats in any case! Quite impressive!

Awesome!

For a note, Flashington won 2-1, not 1-0. And Seattle beat GB 3-2 in round 2.

But awesome still.

This is the public notice of the NBFL draft, please post your draft picks in the draft thread!

The NBFL Draft officially kicks off this coming weekend. Good luck with your draft board and picks!

NBFL Draft ~ Season 13
NBFL Expansion Draft ~ Season 13

Hi All and welcome to the NBFL Draft Season 13

The 24 hour draft clock will officially begin June 13th, Friday night at 11:59pm (eastern time). Coaches may opt to declare their picks prior to the official clock starting once it is their turn. Whichever team is currently drafting will be the 1st team on the clock.

DO NOT BUILD UNTIL THE DRAFT IS COMPLETED!!! We will complete the draft and declare builders open.

NAMING CONVENTION - We are requiring ALL NCBB graduates to be tagged with their college somewhere in their name. We suggest a [COLLEGE] tag but other naming conventions are acceptable (xx) *xx - xx This is to help keep the continuity of these players, we will still allow you to alter their names in a way that is fitting with your team.
College programs will be providing appropriate short 4-5 letter abbreviations or be assigned one.
***MD Punisher becomes Vince (Punisher) Wilfork [Clem]

0.1 The Expansion Draft is run in a separate thread. That PM thread will be released shortly.
*** The official 24 hour clock will also start for the expansion draft this coming Sunday the 15th

1. Please Do Not Reply to this Message unless it is YOUR turn to draft.
***we will have a Draft Comment PM thread for questions, comments and pointing out how dumb, and or lucky your fellow coaches are.

2. We ask that your draft read Player Name, and the specific position you want to recruit him for.
***With the #18 pick in the draft, Carolina selects:
(High Elf Catcher)So-and-so, out of Such-and-Such college (38spp - Block, +AG, SS)

3. Once a player is drafted, they can obviously not be drafted by another team.
***plan your draft board accordingly if you are a later round drafting team

4. You may only pick as many players as you are assigned from the draft board to fit into your roster.
***these players are in ADDITION to your current roster.
***these players are NCBB graduates you will pick to be added to YOUR NBFL ROSTER
***you will be responsible for buying the player (he/she must keep his NCBB name or something close)
***you will be responsible for getting the spps onto your player through snot builders. (you may build up to but not exceed the spps listed (if you happen to get the mvp in that players final game, he did well in OTAs, you will have to let us know)
*** you can reference the draft board on the Draft page to see what your team is eligible to pick by position
*** If you want a Troll Slayer on your dwarf team, you will only be able to pick them from players who are listed as Strength section (Line/Str, Blitz/Str, or Strength) so look at who is available for the positions you want, or pick the best available and fit them into your team.

4a. Trades are allowed on a 1:1 basis and must be approved by the draft commissioner (ryanfitz).
***you can ONLY trade equal amounts of draft picks and from the same rounds (so you can trade your round 1 and round 2 for his round 1 and round 2, or you can swap all three rounds if you like.)
***no swapping for futures (next seasons picks)
***no swapping from different rounds (your 1 and 3 for his 1 and 2, the system is not ready for that)
***you are responsible for your 24 hour clock until your trading coach agrees to take your spot then he gets whatever remains on the clock and no more)
***do not make a mess outta the draft with crazy trades, or you may just lose your damn picks altogether Very Happy

5. When the season is ready to start, we will go in and change your player to match the skills he acquired during his college career. (yes even if he is +ST, +ST, +AG, +AG he goes to his college stats)
***YOU MUST DESIGNATE WHICH PLAYER WILL BE THE SPECIFIED DRAFTEE, LETTING THE LEAGUE ADMINS KNOW BEFORE YOU START BUILDING THEM
***You may designate a current player on your roster to become the draftee player, again you must notify the admins of your intention. that players name and stats will be changed once built
***If you do not achieve enough spps to gain all of your players skills, we will choose the skills your guy gets. +STATS, doubles removed 1st.

6. Look at what players you need on your team and see what players you can recruit for those positions.
***eg. if you need Bull Centaur, you can draft any player that is listed as a Blitzer OR as a Strength player as Bull Centaurs can be found in both columns at the top of the draft board
***The player MUST be roster legal, if you want to draft a great college blitzer but already have your 4 maximum, you have to make space for the new guy or not sign him to the team.

7. If your player already has a skill that the draftee has, there will be NO compensation skill, he will just receive one less skill.
***eg. you recruit a blitzer with (Dodge, MB, SS) to be your new Pro Elf blitzer, he will be able to take the two skills that he does not already have.
*** your new recruit is expected to remain as far away from their next skill as they are currently (eg. if you draft a Blitzer with SS at 48 spp, 3 away from next skill, but your Elf Blitzer already comes with SS, you would skill your guy up to a maximum of 28 spp, still 3 away from next skill. if he was at 51, you may skill your guy up to 31 and no more)

8.The Draft order is reverse from the regular season record.
***Expansion franchises are marked with a *
***Expansion teams were assigned pick order by d100 dice roll in #NBFL earlier this week

9. Teams will be asked to post their choice as soon as possible, so all teams can recruit their players and we can begin the next season.

10. If you are away more than 24 hours, your pick will be begin to slide, you will no longer receive a 24 hour clock, and subsequent teams may begin picking. Your pick will continue to slide until you return and make a valid draft choice.

***you may send the draft committee (ryanfitz, Jeffro,) a list of the players you would like to draft if you are afraid you will be away and miss your draft

11. If you are caught sandbagging in your final matches to improve your draft pick, you may be demoted in the draft at the discretion of Jeffro. (good luck relying on that!)

NBFL Season 13 Preview

Finally the time has come for another great NBFL season. While it has been quite some time since I have done a season preview, most of you know about my playoff previews, including for our most recent post-season. As usual I was not ultimately correct, but that hasn't stopped me before and it sure as hell won't stop me now. We have a lot of teams to cover and I won't be able to analyze everything, but I will give you reasons why each team will and/or will not win their respective division. And of course I will try to predict the outcome of the playoffs because I simply don't learn my lesson.

(Note: the order of teams is based off of last year's standings)

NFC East

Flashington Redheads
Reasons they will win the division
-They won it last season behind a very solid team and eventual MVP winner
-This is a veteran team with both skills (two POMBers, two +ST linos, an Ag4 thrower, etc) and depth with a full roster
-Zons are simply annoying as hell to try to out-block, and only one division rival (Dallas) has a significant speed advantage over them
Reasons they won't win the division
-They lost the aforementioned MVP in their playoff run
-They won the division when their rivals were relatively weak (New York was new and Philhala had a super-bowl hangover), but now everyone is better

New York Giant Leeches
Reasons they will win the division
-Three of their five vampires have a stat increase, and all of them have blodge
-Making the playoffs in your inaugural year in the tougher conference proves that you have some darn good coaching
Reasons they won't win the division
-All of the thralls have a role, but none of them look to be able to 'go big' if the situation calls for it.
-Only two tacklers plus one diving tackler...did we mention this division has 'zons and wood elves?

Dallas Dendrophiliacs
Reasons they will win the division
-They are the fastest team in the NFC East by far, and should be able to out-score their rivals
-A St4 wardancer and two St3 catchers will be a huge pain to contain
Reasons they won't win the division
-Two games vs both Philhala and Flashington could reduce the team's depth
-Scoring goals is nice but unless you come up with stops you won't win

Philhala Arni
Reasons they will win the division
-A super bowl victory followed by a fourth place finish? No team will be more motivated this season
-Can't touch this
-Coaching: a norse team won a 2000+ average TV league championship...that's impressive
Reasons they won't win the division
-They are still norse, however. Even if "Pretty" can't be hurt, the rest of them can be...and easily.
-Three very different rivals with Philhala having no clear edge over any of them.

AFC East

New Angryland Bulltrots
Reasons they will win the division
-They always do
-I picked them to win the Super Bowl, so they aren't cursed anymore now that the playoffs are over
-Oh and they have a St5 blodging bull and another with Ag3.
Reasons they won't win the division
-I may just curse them again.
-Three rookie blockers...and all likely to die young (if NA's recent history is any indication)

Miami Krakens
Reasons they will win the division
-Three big guys with block. Three.
-A solid DE, an Ag5 skaven, and a St4 Ag4 'rauder
-Any random 'rauder could be a CPOMBer before you know it
Reasons they won't win the division
-Even big guys with block will let you down
-Only two marauders with CMB right now, and both have permanent injuries

Buffalo Hillbillies
Reasons they will win the division
-Their division is sooo slow compared to these elves
Reasons they won't win the division
-They're Buffalo. Enough said.

New Tomb Jetz
Reasons they will win the division
-All four mummies have block, and two have tackle
-An Ag4 throw-ra
-Mass regeneration means they shouldn't be worn down for the late season playoff push
Reasons they won't win the division
-Khemri simply have problems winning games

NFC North

Green Ball Attackers
Reasons they will win the division
-Heisman
-Four straight division titles in a very good and balanced NFC North reveals the quality of the coaching staff
Reasons they won't win the division
-Surely one of their division rivals has learned how to beat the frogs by now...right?
-Even Heisman winners can be forced to retire

Detroilet Sewer Lions
Reasons they will win the division
-Arguably the best big guy in the league, supported by four road-blocks in the form of Chaos Warriors (three are blodgers)
-A very solid group of pestigors
Reasons they won't win the division
-Only one pestigor has tackle, and their ag4 'gore has a niggling injury
-A 6-4-4 record followed by 6-5-3...a sign of improvement or a sign that 'slightly above average' is their peak?

Chicago Bear-ds
Reasons they will win the division
-Their ground-and-pound style differs from the rest of the division and could be tough for them to deal with
-Most of their blockers have guard or blodge...good luck blocking them
Reasons they won't win the division
-Dwarves can rarely get above .500 in this league
-Coach Aenir is really going to have to prove his NCBB limitations were due to his beloved khemri's incompetence

Minnesota Wolfkings
Reasons they will win the division
-On paper this is arguably the most talented team in the league, given their seven stat increases
Reasons they won't win the division
-No dirty players. Why use a race with zombies if you aren't gonna foul?
-Many of their stat-freaks have been around for several seasons but the team has still failed to make the playoffs

AFC North

Cincinatti Bludgeoners
Reasons they will win the division
-They won the division last season as a rookie NBFL team, thus giving them invaluable experience
-Several quality positionals, including an Ag4 blodging pestigor
Reasons they won't win the division
-Pittsburgh is highly unlikely to go 2-1-11 again.
-The aforementioned pestigor has a niggling injury
-They currently only have one tackler, yet they face Cleave Land, Dallas, and Flashington in the first five weeks

Cleave Land Brown Dawg Pound
Reasons they will win the division
-Whatever you think about Coach BillBrasky, the man can coach blood bowl (usually with emphasis on the 'blood')
-Three +AG players, including two witches
Reasons they won't win the division
-Beating the defenses from Cinci and Pitt twice a year will not be easy, even with the extra agility.

Baltimorc Waaaghvens
Reasons they will win the division
-They have a very unorthodox team for orcs, which may or may not help them
Reasons they won't win the division
-They have a very unorthodox team for orcs, which may or may not help them

Pittsburgh Pirates
Reasons they will win the division
-They won't go 2-1-11 again; even I can guarantee that
-I predict them to be the league's best defense, led by the 'Hammer' and the "Anvil" (my nickname and his nickname, respectively)
Reasons they won't win the division
-Two of their better blockers have -av, and rookie blockers are hard to train midseason
-Only one dirty player for a coach who likes to foul as often as Nico does...tisk tisk

NFC South

Atlatl 'n' Falchions
Reasons they will win the division
-They have more Spps on any combination of saurri than most teams do on their entire team
-Rarely have they ever been out of the playoff picture, much less the division race
-Seriously have you seen their saurrii?
Reasons they won't win the division
-With age comes wisdom, experience...and injuries. With a total of eight permanent injuries on the squad, some of those older players may be replaced...by force
-They have the highest payroll in the league, thus it is unlikely that they will ever be helped by inducements

Carolina Black Panther Party
Reasons they will win the division
-If they 'seize your balls'...I mean the ball, then it's over: combine their speed with their ability to pitch the ball accurately and it's a virtually guaranteed score
-A very solid squad: two good blitzers and throwers, two dirty players, some standard line-elves, and finally two veteran catchers to teach two up-and-coming youngins'
Reasons they won't win the division
-Two of their catchers have a niggling injury, plus everyone on the roster except the two blitzers have Av7. Expect a lot of attrition as always
-Last time I checked, the ATL-izards are still playing. Plus it's unlikely that their other two division foes will have a combined record of 3-6-19 again

Gnawleans Stanks
Reasons they will win the division
-With their inaugural season under their belts, Gnawleans can now go from 'survive' to 'destroy' (or 'infect', in their case)
-While still a young team overall (only three players above 51 spps), they have all the skills and abilities they need (such as three 'gores having a stat increase)
Reasons they won't win the division
-They may more competitive this campaign but are perhaps one season away from truly threatening for the division crown

Lothern Bay Bolt Throwers
Reasons they will win the division
-Elves always have a chance to steal games from slower opponents
-Many players are close to skilling up again, as we count seven players that are five spps or less away from gaining another skill
Reasons they won't win the division
-This has been one of the worst franchises in the league the past two seasons (ultimately finishing winless last year)
-This division is very difficult, with their rivals all being good at something else, making it tough to design your team to beat all three

AFC South

Hacksonville Quagmires
Reasons they will win the division
-Needless to say, their run to the Super Bowl was unforeseen by me...and well, really everyone
-Both their Ogre and Troll have block, and they have a few interesting players on the roster to back them up
Reasons they won't win the division
-They don't have a bell-cow to carry the ball, which is usually a key ingredient for Pact teams.
-The AFC as a whole was down last season (Hacksonville got a bye last season with a record that would have been tied for fourth in the NFC) and now they have a target on their backs

Hearthstone Hexen
Reasons they will win the division
-These dwarves may just have the balls to stand toe to toe with the Pact, Orcs, and Khemri in their division...not to mention the numerous guard skills and two dauntless troll slayes
-For better or for worse, the Hexens drafted Trevor Flyton, with this being his fourth NBFL team ever since he left the college ranks
Reasons they won't win the division
-Even dwarves may suffer attrition with six games this year against Pact, Orcs, and Khemri
-In addition to attrition, getting victories over those equally slow teams will be difficult

Tennesse Titanz
Reasons they will win the division
-On paper this team looks very, very solid and has a lot of experience in the league
-This is perhaps the fastest orc roster the NBFL has seen, with an Ma8 and Ma7 blitzer, plus two Ma7 goblins (for whatever that's worth)
Reasons they won't win the division
-They have yet to come close to winning the division since joining the NBFL, although they don't have to deal with lizards from Houston anymore (the usual AFC South winner until last season)

Indianecropolis Pejòshkwe
Reasons they will win the division
-Now in their second season, they know what to expect
-Two mummies with block lead the way for this guy, from THE Ohio State University
Reasons they won't win the division
-They're Khemri

NFC West

Seattle SewerHawks
Reasons they will win the division
-The two-time NFC West champs and reigning Super Bowl Champions remain the odds-on favorite to win it all again
-Because their gutter runners are ridiculous and their blitzers will get better as the season progresses
Reasons they won't win the division
-Their team bio admits, among other things, that last season took a huge toll on the squad. Whether or not the newcomers can live up to the standard that the franchise has established remains to be seen

Arizona Sinners
Reasons they will win the division
-While not quite as reputable as the team listed above, these rats are no slouches themselves and had a solid first campaign
-With the focus on Seattle, who better to steal their metaphorical (and perhaps physical) cheese than another skaven team?
Reasons they won't win the division
-Rats are prone to attrition, and good health is critical in this league

Ban Francisco Footy Fighters
Reasons they will win the division
-This team has several potential All-Pro players, with four stat-increased dudes, a Troll with block, and a POMB blitzer
-They drafted one of the all-time great NCBB players, although Emmit looks smaller than I remember him
Reasons they won't win the division
-They drafted a famous NCBB player who's roll seems to overlap with their home-grown star...could we see tension in the locker room?

In-Sane Louie Goats
Reasons they will win the division
-You literally can't have worse injury luck than the Goats did last season
-Those that did survive and those that were brought in during the offseason have potential thanks to five combined stat increases
Reasons they won't win the division
-After so much roster turnover, the squad is still very young and lacks anything beyond the basic skills (watch out for them in Season 15 if they can last both mentally and physically...consider this ex-con's far-reaching prediction)

AFC West

San Dogo Chompers
Reasons they will win the division
-Honestly have you ever felt safe against this coaching staff? They may not have elves but they always seem to have an 'ace up their sleeve' when all the chips are in *cough* admin client *cough*
-Even with their injuries and a literally-off-the-bus rookie, the Chompers may have arguably the best blitzer corps in the league
Reasons they won't win the division
-With a combined eight permanent injuries (granted three players have two each), it won't be long before the next generation of San Dogo legends needs to be trained
-This is the best division in the league, and any one of these four teams could conceivably win it

Denver Mile Under Club
Reasons they will win the division
-After winning three straight division crowns, Denver fell off a bit last year and had to settle for a wild card spot. Don't expect them to have an easy training camp after that
-They have easily the most efficient salary-cap management in the league, with an exquisitely complete team at only 2150k
-Once their two POMBers and/or St4 wight get you on the ground, one of their four dirty-zombies will put you in it for good
Reasons they won't win the division
-After losing a good mummy, teams might finally be able to take out their remaining 'big three' that have been alive a lot longer than their rivals have wanted
-This is the best division in the league, and any one of these four teams could conceivably win it

Oakland Elf Raiders
Reasons they will win the division
-They are the most agile team in the West, and now have a respectable blitzer corps after starting the last season with a very rag-tag group
-This once-proud franchise used to make the playoffs almost every year...and they are hellbent on doing so again
Reasons they won't win the division
-After three straight years with no playoff appearances, its clear that their division rivals (who have all stayed the same over that time) have Oakland's number. Things may change in the 'Black Hole' if that does not.
-This is the best division in the league, and any one of these four teams could conceivably win it

Fangsas City Chiefs
Reasons they will win the division
-Any of their six vampires would likely qualify as the best player on Oakland's team. Any of them.
-Five of those duckers have blodge, two of them have +AG, three of them have played for 96 or more games, both tacklers also have diving tackle, the absolute perfect player fell to them in the draft, they *ranting continues for another half-hour*
Reasons they won't win the division
-Their best finish in the West over their five seasons has been third place. And that was once. Seriously if they don't win it this year with these monsters, will they ever?
-This is the best division in the league, and any one of these four teams could conceivably win it

With all the teams now previewed to some extent, here is how I foresee these division races playing out:

Conference Predictions

NFC
1. Atlatl 'n' Falchions
2. Seattle SewerHawks
3. New York Giant Leeches
4. Detroilet Sewer Lions
5. Green Ball Attackers
6. Philhala Arni

The top two seeds from last season show little signs of slowing down, so I give them the nod to repeat. I do foresee the Leeches taking the crown this time in the East, while I like Detroit to finally knock of the Attackers (who still qualify as a wild card team). Finally I believe Philhala will redeem themselves after last season and make the final cut in the NFC over the likes of Carolina, Flashington, and Arizona.

AFC
1. Denver Mile Under Club
2. Pittsburgh Pirates
3. New Angryland Bulltrots
4. Hearthstone Hexen
5. Fangsas City Chiefs
6. Miami Krakens

The AFC's top two seeds are two traditional powers that return to form after down seasons. They are followed by another perennial power, but the surprise team comes from the South where the new kids on the block kick the door in. Finally we have Fangsas City finally making it out of the cellar (no one will ever be so happy as to come in second in their division) and an interesting mix of power and agility in Miami.

Playoff Predictions

NFC
-What we have in the NFC is a clear divide between the two top teams (Seattle and the ATL) and the rest, but that doesn't guarantee anything once the playoffs begin. For example, I would predict New York to beat Seattle in a playoff game but lose to the lizards. I don't think Philhala can run the table again, though Green Ball might if Woodson was somehow still alive at the end of the regular season again. Detroit would be the my darkhorse candidate based on the matchups, as their defense will give them a chance to win any game. In the end, I think the conference championship comes down to Atlatl and Seattle, with the lizards winning the game on a kroxigor touchdown. I am confident in this prediction because both franchises are great at skilling up new players, such as Percy Harvin III with 40 spps in 6 games and Jais'n Jef'rs'n #99 (DT)*, a saurus with seven scores in his career that is at 11-ish pro games long.

AFC
-The more heavily-armored conference will have a top three and bottom three between their playoff teams, with veterans Denver, Pittsburgh, and New Angrylands being the favorites to represent the AFC. Meanwhile Hearthstone, Fangsas City, and Miami would be underdogs by the oddsmakers. Both Miami and FC would have possible rematches with division rivals, while Hearthstone is perhaps the biggest unknown in the tournament (dwarves tend to have trouble not tying games in the regular season...but you can't have ties in the playoffs). In the end, I foresee one team from each trio meeting up in the AFC Championship game: Denver and Hearthstone. The former can build up a lost wight or ghoul during the season fairly easily because they almost always have a numbers advantage, while the latter has players with key skills (block and sometimes tackle) out of the box; both qualities will help them survive the gauntlet that is the NBFL. However by the time the championship game rolls around, Denver will only have played one playoff game while Hearthstone will have played two, in addition to six games vs Khemri/Pact/Orcs during the season (not that Denver's games vs the AFC West are bloodless, but they have regenerate and its no big loss if a rookie zombie is sent off by the ref), and thus the undead will win the battle of attrition in overtime.

Super Bowl Prediction

Atlatl 'n' Falchions vs Denver Mile Under Club

I could analyze the potential Super Bowl but I can't predict the playoffs, much less what these teams will look like in 20 games, so I'll just predict Denver to win so that they're now guaranteed not to.

Congratulations robocoyote!

Quality analysis, Conner... except the part about the Carolina Black Panther Party not making the playoffs. I call RACISM!
