Any of you GIMP users available to give me a crash course in animating my icons? Currently I'm using the Treeman.gif image and just changing the layers, but I would like to know how to start the animations from scratch |

I haven't really done anything more than play around with it once.
Load up an image you want to animate (just a one layer gif for instance).
Make sure you have the Dialog window for layers open (dialog->layers), then hit the duplicate layer button there.
Make changes to the new layer.
Repeat the previous two steps for any more layers you wish to add.
Filter->Animation menu has playback for previewing and a couple of optimisation filters.
Script-Fu->Animators has some interesting effect plugins.
Save as a gif to finish it, making sure you check the box for animation when it asks about it. |

The frames of the animation are made as layers.
Key to the animation is the naming of those layers
Append the desired duration in brackets and the mode in brackets too.
so a 3-frame animation might have such frames:
Frame3 (300ms) (replace)
Frame2 (300ms) (replace)
Frame1 (300ms) |
