Unable To Launch Application
Gosh, I'm sorry to bother everyone but I just suddenly can't open a game any more. And, you know, I really want to.

I run chrome and when I click on the downloaded ffb.jnlp file and Java cranks up (java 7 of course I get an error message that just says "unable to launch the application." And I'm all like, "Well you'd better open the application, buster, I've got a league to win*!"

When I click on "details" It says, "System is offline and the application does not specify <offline-allowed/>

And I'm all like,"Um. Wha?"

Anyone know what on earth is going on? My old friend Google is basically laughing in my face and throwing all these weird words at me that I don't understand.

Thanks! I really want to play Blood Bowl again please!

*lose. Quite heavily as it turns out.

Sorry Nick, this is a poor excuse to delay the inevitable loss you will suffer when you play me and lose the league!! LOL

I have no idea what is going on, maybe some intelligent techno people will reply shortly!

Remove java, download again, update to most recent, see what that does.

Make sure you have 'direct connection' selected in java settings (you can find them in your control panel if you're on windows). Hope this helps matey.

I tried the direct connection bit, checked the connections... it's clearly something which would probably be quite obvious to lots of people but that I'm missing completely. I really hope I can get this sorted, I'll be gutted if I can't play FUMBBL anymore :((

Chrome cant do the thing.
Try Firefox or safari or one-like browser

A few things you could look at doing:

1. Uninstall any anti-virus software you have installed and install Microsoft Security Essentials instead (or if you have 8.1, uninstall the software and ensure that Windows Defender is enabled)
2. Uninstall any personal firewall and/or "Internet security" software installed, and make sure the Windows Firewall is enabled
3. Run a virus scan using security essentials
4. Optionally, install and run a spyware cleaner such as Malwarebytes
5. Uninstall the spyware cleaner from point 4
6. Install the free version of Zone-Alarm
7. Uninstall Zone-Alarm (Yes, this is weird but trust me)

The reason for installing Zone-Alarm and uninstalling it is that it resets a lot of network related settings in your registry. I've successfully cleaned a machine which had been hit by malware and wasn't able to start all sorts of important windows services, making the machine vulnerable to future attacks.

Haha. Christer, you absolute legend.

I've had problems connecting a couple of games to the internet because of some unexplained, fruity network problems. Installed ZoneAlarm and uninstalled and now I can connect :D

Thank you Christer and iena,

I have installed firefox and can now at least spec games... although my little old computer does't really like it and takes half an hour to do anything.

I will try Christers suggestions next moment I get... I am already running with Microsoft essentials as my only anti-virus but will look into firewall and stuff.

Thanks for all the help guys, I know it's a stupid boring thing to be asking about.
