Go back playing lacrosse, football aint your thing

aha a perfectly reasonable denial not based in ad hominem nonsense at all.
Posted by Resarf on 2010-07-12 01:27:01
at least he's gutsier than the other six who simply voted 1 and accepted the fact that they were mispleased without thinking about why, or being willing to voice it.

IN all honesty, I think you know little of this game if you think this way. But hey, its never too late to learn and appreciate football at all. There's been a lot of North Americans who kept following the World Cup in the main #fumbbl channel and I wellcome you to expand your knowledge on this game.

Don't really care.

It was a horrible game

Wow you learn. Look how quickly you broke away from the ad hominem angle.

I am from a rabid soccer family, played at a reasonable level myself, I have coached and reffed, my brother has won national titles. Not that you asked, or really said anything I felt obliged to respond to in a way either than to bring your foolish self down.

Ah... an ex-referee. That explains things
Posted by Resarf on 2010-07-12 01:37:07
It was an awesome game excepting the refereeing. Spain finally played hard, I was excited, then it turned horrible. So I half agree with Foulscumm.

Diving didnt decide the game, the goal did!

The diving incident is one of more "what if..." scenarios in the match.

Both teams had a handful of good chances and Holland could as easily have won the game (actually they got the first "100% chance").

Wing: Really, really? Do you understand the language I am using?
Posted by Resarf on 2010-07-12 01:39:18
Asgovich: yes the dutch stopped them from scoring until the last ten minutes when they were down a man and then flukily in an unrelated incident their backline broke down... excellent point.
Posted by WiNG on 2010-07-12 01:40:35
I do understand your language up to a decent level, try understanding soccer or football up the same level as well. Will simplify things
Posted by Resarf on 2010-07-12 01:41:49
Wing: I will answer you again when you make a point.

Can we have a mod lock this thread?
Posted by WiNG on 2010-07-12 01:43:21
In your mood, there is no chance I ever make a point. You are ismply barking around against anyone who is not on your side. Try making a point youself first
Posted by Resarf on 2010-07-12 01:45:48
why a lock? We are on topic and civil thus far (no name calling no truly insulting language).

@Wing perhaps I am coming across angry. I am not angry. The Spanish were the better team (by a margin). No question their win must be accepted (DeJongs boot deserved a red very early in the match anyway). I don't think anyone should accept how it came about.
Posted by Asgovic on 2010-07-12 01:46:55
My point is that you can always list a lot of "what if..." questions about the outcome of a match.

If Holland had won it it could have been "brutal fouling won the world cup"

In the end all that mattered was the goal and that cant be connected directly with the senting off.
Posted by Resarf on 2010-07-12 01:50:40
my point is that Fifa in doing too little to minimize the "what if" questions regarding reffing has encouraged diving to the point that diving has won a world cup for Spain.

You're absolutely right about the opposite outcome (seriously I am gonna have nightmares about DeJong's boot).

In the end all that matters is how hollow the victory is because of FIFA, thus pressure should be put on FIFA and Spain's win put up there with Maradonna style bunk.

Resarf: I am incredibly tired of the "diving" issue. Everyone thinks everyone else dives. I am tired of this argument already. The fact is, when you are fouled, unless you end on the ground you won't be awarded the foul. Is that diving? no, you WERE fouled. This match was a perfect example of a very very bad referee that would not do his job even when some truly brutal tackles took place. A very different issue is when you actually dive to fool the ref and you were not touched. That HAS to be punished in the pitch if caught by the referee and, if the referee fails, then afterwards by each competent board based on video evidence.
Posted by WiNG on 2010-07-12 01:56:10
If you get back into the argument that Spain won the World Cup by diving... well, really, think what you wish. There is no need to discuss things any further with you. Here in Spain we say "No hay mas ciego que el que no quiere ver". Roughly translates as "There is no one as blind as he who does not want to see"
Posted by Resarf on 2010-07-12 05:16:47
Wing: it doesn't matter who dives. the reason refs don't award fouls unless a player is on the ground is because diving is an accepted practice. That doesn't make it an acceptable practice. It makes for an ugly cat and mouse game with the referee, which, let's face it, detracts from the beautiful games between the teams that ought to be taking place.

Again I agree with you about the awful refereeing and the brutal tackles not called just emphasize my point. The product sucked. I am done consuming it until FIFA fixes it.

and I will again reiterate I am not remotely dutch, and I thought Spain finally came to kick ass in this game.

calling it a hollow victory is too far and belittles the efforts of the (few honourable) players: shame on me. I stand by the rest of my points.
