Reality of insanity
This is one of the best editorials I've ever read.

I want to know what is next? What to do about it? Does anything ever change?

Scary.

Very interesting.

Same in other countries btw (at least Spain, first hand, and looks like it's also that way in Italy and probably Germany and France from the outside)

The problem with all establishments, is that they initially set themselves up servants to the public, but over time mutate into institutions to protect their own status.

This has pretty much been the same for all forms of government and religion since the beginning of time.

Sadly, people are sheep, so it will probably always be allowed to go that way.

Sad truths in there. Another sad truth is that the people who really need to read that text would give up after a tenth of its length.

Its good to see that the Tea Party finally has the Democrats in a tizzy, which is what that article is, the writer is in a tizzy that Obama is probally going to lose the election, and the Dems are headed towarda a election night nightmare. And furthermore it is nice to see that the Republicans are also taking it on the chin.

The Tea Party has the GOP in its crosshairs right now, not the democrats, they cant do anything about the Dems until Nov 2012.

Anyone from outside the US who wants a good insight into our crazed political system, this is a good one to read.

@Painstate: Try reading that stuff, maybe? Or are you worried about endangering your indoctrination?

Hint: It's far less about the democrats than you seem to think.

@PainState: No, he's not a a pro-Obama loser in a tizzy. Read further, and read the footnotes. The man doesn't like the Democrats either, he just happened to work with the Republicans and thinks they've lost their marbles. He's probably right, but would have been just as right if he was from the other side saying they were weak and useless (which he hinted at, and even outright said once).

@maysrill: I would prefer if he'd detailed why BOTH sides were broken from the standpoint of showing other people why we are broken... If the blame is laid squarely on one parties door, we're letting the other off when they are just as guilty.

Protip: Read articles before making ill-informed comments on them. This will prevent you from looking foolish!

BOOSH!

It seems to me that what this article is saying is that both sides are breaking the systems, but that Democrats benefit when the system works, while Republicans benefit when the system doesn't work. The problem we have is that Republicans can make the system not work on purpose.
This is a little like putting an atheists in charge of the Roman Catholic Church. Both will do everything in their power to destroy the system in order to 'prove' that the system doesn't work.

A perfect democratic system. And USA criticizes Chinas governances, I find that very amusing then. China not perfect, but neither seems the USA system.

Good read. I guess it can be applied to all democratic societies to some extent. If you want your party to win, work towards damaging the other party, the government institutions and their regulations made.

I did read the entire article including the footnotes.

I stand by my statement, earlier.

And I never said the author was a pro Obama guy...But his entire article basically comes down to how the left fears certain elements of the GOP and at the same time he is bashing the GOP for radical elements in the party.

This guy must have gone over to the tea party then. He obviosly does not like the establishment GOP and and left....well so did about 80% of the GOP base...they all formed a new party that will destroy the GOP from the inside out.

Posted by Fela on 2011-09-09 11:41:23
Man, you're not getting it.

90% of the article focuses on how civilized conservatives (he refers to that as Eisenhower republicanism) fear the development inside their own/former party.

The ACTUAL surprise for me is that the republican party apparently did not ALWAYS rally around rabid dogs. They actually attempted sensible politics..ages ago. And that there seem to be elements inside the current party who remember that..well, or just leaving the current party, anyway.

That must have been good times with Eisenhower. Wasn't it him who warned of the growing influence of the Military-Industrial Complex?
Seems like he was right, and they took quite some power in the GOP. Add to this the religious fundamentalists (btw does the term "christianism" exist?) and you come close to what we see now.
