Almost a year now. I've learned a lot, but still not winning much.
Have you ever started to feel like you have the hang of this game and then you hit such a horrible losing streak that you think maybe you were just delusional?

I've been playing on FUMBBL for 11 months now, and I came in as a brand new player (playing table top as well). I lost A LOT, but I expected it because I was new. Then, it felt like I was turning a corner. At a certain point, my win rate started to go up noticeably. However, in the past few weeks I've lost 6 straight and 8 out of the last 10. I primarily play orcs and with 97 games under my belt my overall win rate is about 28% now. I had tried switching to a very conservative 4 BO, 4 Blitzer, 3 line build. I won 6 out of my first 8 and was feeling pretty good about things when suddenly I was suffering at least 4 removals from armour breaks each half and just getting pummeled. I have to admit, I got pretty frustrated for a while and it made me think maybe I just really didn't learn as much as I thought. Sorry to any former opponents reading this who had to put up with my whining.

I decided that if I'm going to lose, I'm going to have fun doing it. So I've switched to a build that includes a troll and 2 goblins instead of the linemen. I've lost 2 in a row with this build, but I don't feel nearly as disheartened by it. My luck has slightly improved, but not a lot. I've tried a couple other teams, but they're just not as fun to me and I always seem to come back to orcs. I hate to say it, but I have just come to expect terrible luck so I don't have any expectation of winning going into a game. I don't know if that's healthy, but I haven't been disappointed lately.

What's the worst streak you've had? How do you deal with slumps? Thanks for reading through my tale of woe and be well.

I have had my times of frustration, too. Sometimes It felt like going in the game with the Expectation to lose.

Take some time of. What realy helped my was to ask what was my mistake. If I fail the GFI for the Touchdown I don't blame the dice but try to find out where I made the mistake.

And my worst streak was more than 10 losses in a row.
Don't let it get you down. Better times will come. :)

Thanks for the encouragement Flytime. I don't usually get time to go back and review matches, but I'll try to do that more frequently. I'm guessing I'll learn a lot.

100 matches really isn't that many, so your expectations are maybe set too high.

Regarding luck and slumps - don't focus on luck, it doesn't really exist in BB (not the way you're talking about it anyhow) and certainly don't whine about it. Both of those things shift your focus away from winning if that is your goal.

don't get disheartened, i lost a lot when I started playing here and now win more frequently but we all go through streaks. Sometimes playing a conservative game and getting a tie can start the road back to success.

Don't go into the game expecting to lose. Instead, go into the game expecting every dice roll to fall against you. Cover what you can against those inevitable cases where the dice WILL fall against you.

My longest streak of loses is probably seven or eight games.

I lose more than I win, so I spectate games, usually between folks much better than me. It's helpful to sometimes figure out what I'd do... and see what the better coaches actually do. One thing I've noticed is that they cover [the ball| important players| ball carrier|etc] so that when they do suffer a turnover, the opponent can't [easily get the ball| down and foul their star blitzer| sack the ball carrier]. At least that's what I've noticed.

But other times, like you said, I'll just play anyway with teams I enjoy playing even if I lose. I figure I'll give someone else a fun time, and do my best to win... and it still brings me joy when someone fails a Foul Appearance roll, or causes a casualty that I regenerate immediately. (And sometimes I manage that 4+,3+ dodge, 3+ pickup, fail the 5+ pass, but the scatter takes it back to the intended receiver, and make the 4+ catch for the game tying touchdown in turn 16. Right charle1331? Or make the 6+ pickup, 9+ pass, 2+ catch for a turn 16 TD and lose anyway... but my goodness it's fun. (And that last makes up for failing the first, reasonable pass.) :-) )

And really, it's the fun that's important. If you can lose and still have fun... *shrug* then who cares if you lose. Still play to win... but fight harder to have fun.

Lots of advice! lots of support.

I joined (6 months ago, but more games than you) and for a long period seemed to end up on wrong side of results. An issue issue was team build, and team strategy. And perhaps ability, but that's rather harder to assess objectively.

I now a lean team with a designed strategy, and am doing a little better in Box. I don't care about it been tough & competitive. I just try to learn the lessons each time the team is ruthlessly beaten down, or heartbreaking dodged away from. And come up with a gameplan for my team versus bash, or versus agility.

The rookie competitions (OWRR, RRR) are great fun and format is a leveller for newer coaches.

7s is the best fun, shh though. That's our secret so don't tell anyone..

Heh heh heh. This is gonna sound mighty cynical, but here it is...

Pretty much every game is the same. You're much more likely to win if you are playing people who are not as good as yourself.

The better player/coach you are, the bigger your selection of fish.

So. Improve your play and/or pick your opponents more carefully. ;)

Mix it up so that you play some matches where you are likely to lose and learn, and others where you actually have a decent chance of a result. ;)

Have fun.

If you still can't win, switch to playing halflings and goblins and lose with style.

I have a 4 game streak with 20%+ of ones on my ogre team, but when I don't oh boy!

Also I play for other goals. decide if another goal is worth it. the badge collection here is fun: https://fumbbl.com/p/notes?op=view&id=1967

For me it probably helps (even if my opponents will say I'm salty, its because I am) that if I'm dominating a match due to dice I'll score and let you back in, as your enjoyment is as important too mine. I just wish the RNG felt the same way.

Well, the streak is finally broken! Changing my roster up has really helped. The conservative build is just not fun for me I think.

Ben_awesome: I didn't know about the badges, thanks for sharing that. I'll go check it out.
