Some commentary a day after the facts:

PRELIMINARIES

Chickenistan play on their previous winnings and hire Morg'n'Thorg to try and secure them the title. Unable to match the asking price, Basha Skwad is forced to compromise on 'Ripper' Bolgrot to counter the Ogre superstar. Will it be enough?

FIRST HALF

The Skwad receive in the first half, but as usual starting with the initiative proves deceptive. The tougher Chickenistan line up manages to hold the line and free up two Blitzers to zero in on the thrower. So, with the pressure on him, the Skwad thrower runs up to pass the ball to the caged Blitzer emerging talent Goffarsta and... snake-eyes! Butterfingerz lives up to his name, fumbling the ball and looking very stupid with the opposing team tearing down on him.

A mad dash to defend fails and it's quickly 0-1. A TTM attempt gets nowhere and the Skwad return to their dug outs after the half with nothing positive to talk about.

SECOND HALF

This time, Chickenistan is receiving, and they bide their time. However, half-time has given the Skwad a new wind and the central ruck is not giving way. Nonetheless, the more agile Chickenistan Blitzers keep the ball and maneuvre around the scattered Skwad attackers to try and pass the ball up. They finally find a small opening and go for it. All that stands between Chickenistan and a 2 point lead is Bork, the Skwad kicker. The Chickenistan blitzer passes, Bork jumps... and catches it! Interception! Having regained the initiative, the Skwad leap to the task. Bork runs up to hand off to Squigface and play the clock. Chickenistan is desperate: in a frenzy they try to rush and stop the come back. They manage to get Morg'n'Throg on Squigface, but a blitz frees him and he jogs in for the score. 1-1! A small mistake and dumb luck give back what Butterfingerz's error took in the first half.

In the dying turns of the second half, Bork kicks the ball deep to prevent a TTM. It's overtime for sure!

OVERTIME

This is where the Basha Skwad strategy tells. Their conservative and careful plays have left them fresh, with 4 rerolls, while Chickenistan is looking tired and drained, with just 1 reroll left. Despite the fact that they're receiving, the initiative is no longer with the stronger team.

Chickenistan try to bash their way forwards, but it's clear the tide has turned against them. Seeing his team unable to make much headway, the Chickenistan thrower falls back, but is soon pursued by a free Skwad blitzer. Mistakes pile up and suddenly it's a crowdpush! The thrower is out and the ball free, deep in Chickenistan territory with only Skwad players around it. Goffarsta finally reclaims his due, picking up the ball and stalling the hell out of the last few turns of the game. Kork, the Diving Tackle lineorc, manages to tie up Morg, the only player on the pitch strong and fast enough to take on Goffarsta, and on the very last turn of a long and bitterly fought match, the orc strolls in for the decisive touchdown of the final, winning the Basha Skwad the title of FUMBBL Smack Legend X champions!

POST-MATCH ANALYSIS

What a game! Yet another dramatic turn around; in both this game and the semi-final before it, the Basha Skwad went down 0-1 before struggling back to 2-1. Ripping victory out of the jaws of defeat is starting to become their speciality...

I'd say I had my fair amount of bad luck and good luck. The fumble in the first half was made up by the interception in the second half. The match was fairly even until Overtime, at which point I had 4 RRs to albator's 1. He made the mistake of retreating his thrower to a position where he could be crowdpushed and I exploited it. With a DT lineorc on Morg, it was pretty much game over without a lucky dodge on the ogre's part, which he didn't produce...

Thanks for the match, albator. I wish you success in your next FUMBBL Smack attempt.
