“Game 3, Season XVI
A tight game in the finish and it could have all gone terribly wrong for the 'Riders but for some good luck. Good news for the Duskriders that Cation missed the game with a persistent injury. An easy score by the woodies in turn two and it looked like we were up against it. Fortunately nuffle came to our aid, or more correctly to Rabids discomfiture, with the woodies losing their way and failing many dodges. After whittling down the numbers on field we managed to score comfortably enough and should have gone into the break 2-1 up but for a superb intercept by Hua Xhen, despite Strongarms expertise in safe throwing.
In the second half it took us a while to grind up field thanks to some dogged persistence from the Echoes despite the best efforts of Nuffle to interfere Faced with scoring around turn4 and giving the Echoes a chance for the equalizer I elected to stall which almost led to our ondoing. Completely shrugging off Nuffles earlier attention Talaban made an amazing play to weave his way thru a web of defenders parked near the goal line. Unbelieveably he blitzed the carrier and the woodies promptly stole the ball from under our noses, passed to halfway and scampered clear with barely a Rider in range. Fortunately Deathmoth was up to the task and just managed to take the desperate elf down leaving Duskwind to clinch the win with a long bomb at the stroke of full time.
So in the end a somewhat streaky win that might just as easily gone the other way.

Well atleast we had a promising start (oh did I mention we made an assistant coach redundant trying to chase a handicap but monged it up badly 10 difference is not a handicap Questor Ro.. sheesh) Talaban was picked up by a nice handoff and pass relay combination between Baj and Suryet.. and it was 1-0 early. Glarethreat Menace caught the ball off the kickoff and was nursed up the field Rzak Xhen recieved a fractured arm courtesy of a crowd surf by Blackshade Fogdrifter II. Always thought I was a chance to nab the ball.. with the guard I was able to bring to bear on the ball carriers.. but Talaban time and time again failed in his blitz action. No stall happened and Glarethreat waltzed in for the TD. First action of our drive was to get the ball away from the sidelines and attempt to pass off to Baj lurking in the backfield..Hua Xhen fumbled the pass.. aargh.. 2-1 up at the break and we might have been a chance. alas. Twilight Deathmoth.. exerts his influence on the game killing Talaban. Arrgh what to do... I wanted to turnover my Wardancers as both carried niggles.. but was I going to have any more injuries..(a whole 2nd half to go hmmm).. deciding Talaban was too important to try and snare the win.. Apoth was called for and came through. Eversharp Lackhue shows the "Echoes" cant tackle and wades through our lines to put pressure on the ball. Talaban jumps up and blitzes through the centre of the field and into space... Baj scooping up the pill and connecting with his captain.. now for a bit of luck maybe ? Alas Darkblood Dreadwing is up to the task, stunning the galant wardancer, but perhaps unluckily recovering the bouncing ball. Eversharp Lackhue heading up field for the end of half TD? Ra Hel tries to block the channel, while Hua Xhen gets to his feet and dodges his way back in defense, ending an agonising 1 square away from Eversharp. Suryet being unable to bring down the Dark Elf Blitzer. A sneaky play by the Duskriders pushes Darkblood back to where the mighty Duskwind Strongarm waits to collect the handoff.. and charge upfield launching one of his patented Safe throws to the unmarked Eversharp, who watches with jaw wide open as Hua Xhen leaps into the air and picks off the spiral.. who would have thought it.. the great man was intercepted... and they go into the sheds at 1-1.
Another Kickoff straight to the man sees Deepfrown Blemish with the ball. He drops back and passes to Vilecurse Ranklow, who marches forward evidently the intended TD scorer.. see how the other teams treat us with contempt :( Ra Hel sought to humble the Dark Elves embarking on a brave blitz which saw him badly hurt Deepfrown and put a tackle zone on the ball carrier. Trying to stop the drive however is not easy when your first action of your turn is to Knock yourself out with a simple AG 5 dodge with the dodge skill. With the bottom corner consisting solely of Duskriders they play amongst themselves, Downcast Fretlock having the ball passed to him. Talaban fails his leap well away from the play. and the vile Darkies continue to hand out completions, Downcast offloading to Darkmoon BlackKnife V, who elects to stall. Was this to come back and bite them? perhaps.. Talaban jumps up to his feet and launches an audatious blitz apon the Blitzer, badly hurting him, and then seeing the ball go into the crowd and be booted upfield. Where two "Echoes" players, Veris and new boy Sempes confront Twighlight Deathmoth and Murkfull Lightbane II. Sempes breaks free and heads upfield, to be honest I didnt even think of GFI as I had no rerolls and didnt even think the play would come off. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Veris dodged free picked up the ball and sent it upfield with a beautiful long pass which was dutifully caught by Sempes. OMG could we do it? Of course not... Twightlight Deathmoth was too experienced and could just reach the brave lineman, stunning the poor fellow.. I really need to pay a bit more attention rather than get caught up in the emotion of it all. Veris makes the diffiucult dodges through a number of tackle zones but fails his first into clear space despite his dodge skill, and the ball is very much in Longshanks court as not a single woodelf marks his assortment of players near my endzone. Duskwind Strongarm drops back to grab the ball and wait. We fail another simple dodge. Leaving the game to be taken by Duskwinds arm as he completes the pass to Sharpblade Nightcurse and a 2-1 victory to the experienced Duskriders who were written off at the start of the season but have gone from strength to strength and are in with a shot at the title.

2 Votes to #8 Duskwind Strongarm - Confirmed Peetar Filthslimons pre-season predictions of greatness. A Dream thrower for any team, soon to join the ranks of the SWL Hall of Fame, threw passes only he can throw today, and was unlucky to be picked off, the game would have been over much earlier.
1 Vote to #4 Darkblood Dreadwing - I just liked the look of this fellow. Wasnt as pretentious as some of his fellow blitzers, went about his job and did it well.
