Final of the Middenheim Challenge 11/06
---------------------------------------------------------
After two failed attempts the Gothenburg Gitz finally managed to get themselves to the final of the Middenheim Challenge. Experts had expressed doubts about the team developing able tacklers instead of ultra bashers, but it was a tactic that payed off greatly!

The final obstacle was the under strengthened Die Walkure, but they were coached by the able bamf, who previosuly beat my Big 'Urt ogres with his Dead Alive! necros in the final of the Orcland Wooden Shield.

Faith was high though. The Gitz had made a great tournament so far, and looked to be better trained than their opponents...but things quickly turned ugly. Even before the game started the odds where evened out when the able blitzer Gotcha (a key player since I haven't stocked up on guards) got arrested. Appearantly he had smacked up a halfling for fun before the match, and it turned out to be the referee Bingle Butterbelly.

The Gitz won the kickoff, but bamf had some aces up his sleeves. A lightning fast blitz lead to the humans being able to flank the LOS and snatch up the ball. The entire first half was a struggle back and forth to achieve control of the ball, and although the orcs were bashier they had an upphill fight. Every time they took the ball and broke away Die Walkure somehow managed to fight their way back to get in the way. In the final seconds of the first half the orcs looked like they would be able to run the ball in, but an amazing and death defying one man blitz put a stop to the TD. Cursing whatever Gods I could remember I withdrew to the locker room...things looked grim and bamf had Nuffle in his pocket.

The 2nd half started with continous misery and in the 4th turn Die Walkure could run the ball in for what most people suspected would be a game winning TD. But then suddenly luck turned. Where the Gitz had failed to break armor the blows hit clean, and they dominated the field. Wotan got beaten so badly that he nearly died, and immediately after the apothecary saved his life Runn finished him off with a heavy blow.

Slowly but steadily the orcs pushed the humans back. Die Walkure once again looked like they could put a stop to the TD with a daring one person blitz, but this time the orcs managed to sort it out and run the ball in to tie the match and bring it to OT.

Die Walkure won the kickoff, but 16 rounds of getting da boot from the greenskins had taken it's toll and they could not muster a full lineup. The Gitz continued their luck spree and through "sneaky taktiks" they put up a perfect defense, denying the humans an attempted 2 turn TD to end the match. Instead the humans, outnumbered and outbashed, were run over. The Gitz succeeded with everything they attempted and cut through the LOS with great fury, managing to tie up the ball carrier with an orc blitzer. He managed to dodge away one time, but he was soon caught up and tripped, allowing Smirk da Exakutiona to terminate the game.

Third time is the charm, and Gothenburg Gitz are now setting aim for the Antipodal Regional Challenge!

Thanks for the match, bamf. I have only played you twice, but I am looking forward to playing you again. It's a pleasure playing such a honorable and honest opponent, and your skill makes every encounter an exciting and fun challenge. See you in the next finals I hope ;)
