SWL Season XVII - Southside Stone Smashers Conference League - Round 6

On paper, we had a much stonger team than Bro Town, but they did their best to prove the bookies wrong. The first half saw the ogres receive, and attempt to gradually progress up the field. Unfortunately for them, it was obvious that the lack of numbers, and particularly the lack of tackle (thanks to Gumbeast taking out Mack- cheers gumbi) was proving too much. Even when they did manage to knock orks down, they broke armour far too few times to have any impact. Eventually, some fine work from Head Stompa made it too hard to prevent a blitz on the ball carrier. From then on, it was a stuggle for the ogres to get to the ball carrier, let alone secure the ball. A touchdown in turn 8 secured a 1-0 lead at half time.

Feeling somewhat over-confident, we set up with a fairly front-loaded lineup, which proved to be a significant mistake. Da Flinga fumbled the ball trying to pick it up in the backfield, and Mila Jizovich, with some assistance from Valea was launched downfield, and had no trouble sneaking through tackle-zones to collect the ball and tie the scores in turn 1 of the second half!

Fortunately, the orks learned from their mistake, and played a more conservative drive lasting the remainder of the half. There were some very close calls - with the ball falling to the ground near the middle of the pitch. Fortunately, Loony Tossa proved her worth yet again, collecting the ball from the middle of a loose ogre cage, and clearing it to ensure a touchdown in turn 8.

Lining up once more, all trust was placed in the abilities of Leg Breaka to kick the ball deep. A quick snap saw the ogres in with another chance, but Jeff da Maori was unable to help Mila make a repeat performance, instead dropping the poor goblin on her head.

------------------- Twahnlow Votes -------------------

3 pts - #3 Sione
Sneaking dodging to get a blitz on the ball carrier, followed by a blitz that killed Bone Krasha (saved by apothecary), maintaining (some) pressure on the ball carrier during the first half. In the second half, she held her ground against Bone Krasha, and assisted Valea's attack on the ball carrier. Sione then went on to Blitz the ball carrier again later in the half, but this wasn't quite enough to stop the touchdown.

2 pt - #5 Valea
Valea made a successful TTM to get the early second half touchdown, and then wend on to take down the ball carrier on the following drive. This presented good shot at ball control for the ogres, and if they had been able to maintain control (and it only really came down to some very lucky bounces to stop it), the result of the game could have been quite different.

1 pts - #9 Mila Jizovich
Definitely the biggest scoring threat on the team. With ag4, she was able to collect the ball in tackle-zones, and was more realiable (well, at least, less unreliable) when it came to the TTM. Fine work from a key player on the team.
