“The day had come, one of the most anticipated games of the season as the 2 league leaders played off for temporary supremacy. The news of the handicaps came through to the NAAA locker room. Palmed Coin, Doom & Gloom, Bribe the Ref? A stern, concerned look went around the faces of all, the silence only broken by Aeolos collapsing to the floor, having fallen asleep.

The necros drove first, not with the most clinical attack seen in Warseer history. A melee erupted on one wing, involving most of the star players of both teams, the two wolves facing off against Von Fraunhofer, helped out by a couple of his compatriot human blitzers. The old man was taken down and promptly fouled repeatedly, but it seemed his armour was going to keep him alive for at least one more day.

Meanwhile, on the far side of the pitch, Sacrificed III was making a dash for it, but was thwarted by a lone blitzer, who escaped down the pitch with the ball. The wolves spotted the danger and sprinted back, taking down the blitzer on a failed dodge. The wolves turned to attack again but was thwarted once more by a lone human defender, freeing up the ball for Nernst, who had worked himself space upfield, to receive the catch and saunter in for the score.

The necros were incensed, launching a full strength attack to score in the 2 turns they had left in the first half, Kasparov held the ball while the team tried to cage around him while pressing forward. However Fraunhofer took offence, singling out Unbecoming and bringing his unlucky life to an end. With this, the human defences looked strong, but a brave frenzied lone blitz by Kasparov freed up a gap and he waltzed in to make it 1-1 at half time.

Now the task was simple, stop the strongest team in Warseer history from scoring at all in an entire half. Easier tasks have been heard of. The humans caged around Nernst, and the necros stood half its team in the way in stubborn defence. Suddenly a badly timed failed blitz from the humans gave an opening, breaking the cage formation and Nernst went up the wing. He was not safe though, Kasparov weaved his way through living, dead and undead bodies to claw Nernst into the KO box and ball squatting in multiple tackle zones. Now it was a true melee, a scrap that the necros were born for. Ohm went for the pickup but failed to make it to cleanly to the ball. Guinea swept in to take the ball but he could see human blitzers prepared to losen his grip at any second...

..and that's how it happened. The free ball was taken by Schwarzschild who went for the Hollywood pass to Nernst but the pressure was too great and the throw was wayward, scattering into a square marked only by zombies. Sacrificed III showed his composure and speed, nipping in and out with the ball and lobbing it over the despairing human defenders to Kasparov, who was in the endzone within a flash.

1 turn left only and the humans had a one turn scorer, so the flesh golems stood firm, and the sidestepping Kasparov put their bodies bravely on the line to secure the victory. Indeed it proved, as Fraunhofer dealt a blow to the NAAA title hopes as he sent Kasparov down with a game-missing injury.

An incredibly tense game, as meetings between these teams have always proved to be. Time will tell if the necromantics can follow on and secure the league win, let alone make it alive past the next game.”
