NCBB Championship:

Before the game started, there was much smack talking - fans of both teams extolled the virtues of their teams. Michigan claiming that they dominated the regular season game and was more than ready for the championship game. While the Akron fans exclaimed over the fact they would actually be able to field a full squad for one of the first times all season.

As the teams were getting ready, both AG 4 tackle wights for Michigan overcame their lingering injuries and were pumped to dump some wardancers. However, Asher Hammer (the lone niggle for Akron) complained of cramps and could not get dressed. Coach Azure considered his options...but facing 4 blodgers, he simply needed to have a tackler on the field and order the apothecary to shoot him full of painkillers and get him out there for the game. However, throughout the season, it was Anika that unified and lead the team and today was no different - she was on fire and excited - nothing would get her out of this game - she promised to stay out there...she was the true Iron Man for this game!

Pouring rain started and Akron smiled - rain did not bother them...Akron kicked and the ghouls raced for the ball - picking it up and players raced to interpose themselves between the Akron players...it failed. Turn 1, Anika dodged away from the Michigan player, leaped high and smashed into the ghoul ballcarrier - the ball was free and Anika grabbed it and headed towards the endzone. Michigan was no slouch and one of the wights raced in and sent Anika flying. Stunning her. The stun gave Michigan time to recover - however, the other Akron players were there swarming to the ball - a failed pickup by Jason Wasp and a pickup by Michigan the following turn and again they attempted to cage up...this time just inches from their own goal line. Anika jumped off the turf and jumped past the defenders and swatted the ball from the ball carrier, grabbing it, she dodged right past multiple players - some skilled in diving tackle, but it did not matter - free, she got to the goal line and the rest of the team blocked any blitz lanes. Michigan vainly tried - but failed to reach her. Asher Hammer did not want to be outdone and lowered the boom on Chris Perry - a well reviled dirty player. The surprise hit was a mighty blow and Chris was carted off the field...it would be his last game playing for Michigan. Akron scored and was up 1-0 kicking off again.

The next kickoff came as the weather cleared. The ghouls again grabbed the ball and again Anika leaped in and stripped the ball, but it bounced poorly for Akron and eventually into the arms of a Mummy. The Mummy handed off, but time was winding down and Michigan was too far away to score and the half ended 1-0.

The second half kickoff allowed Akron to go on offense and as usual, it did not last long. Orlan Pace continued his amazing season with badly hurting a zombie (he regenerated). Receivers swamped the defenders and Anika made a quick toss to Aidan Thunder - fresh from the practice squad. Up 2-0, Michigan was getting disheartened...and it showed as on the next kickoff, it was an onsides kickoff - catching Michigan by surprise.

Aidan caught the ball with protection and Michigan could not get to him...with the preferred option covered on the next play, Aidan took the ball to the goal line, but was just short of scoring. Michigan needed a 2 gfi blitz by a non-tackle player to get to Aidan, but it worked and got the POW and knocked Aidan out and the ghoul caught the loose ball. A 1d blitz with RR by a tackler could not drop the wight and then shadowing failed and the ghoul escaped. However, Akron defense was stout and Michigan struggled to cross midfield...however, finally, Michigan strong players were wearing down Akron, more and more players carted off the field - Michigan pushed forward and as time expired, raced across for a TD.

2-1 victory for Akron capped an undefeated season in dramatic style. Thanks goes out to a Michigan team that played their hearts out, but just had no answer for a hyped up Anika today!
